  1. Interesting how little seperation you and he had. You did not track at all as far as I could tell and neither did he. If he had not had the mal and opened on a heading toward you, you think you could have avoided one another? As it was, he was spinning so fast as to not be going in any particular direction and you just got your brakes released when you passed his canopy. Why didn't you turn and track like some of the others did when the first person dumped out of the formation? Just looked too close for comfort to me.... ----------------------- Roger "Ramjet" Clark FB# 271, SCR 3245, SCS 1519
  2. 1 Altimeter, 1 stopwatch. ----------------------- Roger "Ramjet" Clark FB# 271, SCR 3245, SCS 1519
  3. I made about 50 or 60 jumps without goggles in 1974. I could see fine, but I finally went back to them because of the drying effect. Hey, those are 1-Shot Capewells, I like it! ----------------------- Roger "Ramjet" Clark FB# 271, SCR 3245, SCS 1519
  4. I don't know if it's unique (for the time) or not, but two shot capewells ? Yikes... can't imagine trying to get a reserve out past all that hardware AND the main without cutting away. ----------------------- Roger "Ramjet" Clark FB# 271, SCR 3245, SCS 1519
  5. Were you on the attempts? I would have been hanging out with Roger and Carl Nelson, Bill Buchmann, Jim Whiting, and others. I had a Canary Yellow and black jump suit at the time. A shot of me from back then:http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/gallery/imageFolio.cgi?action=view&link=Personal_Galleries/RogerRamjet/Blast_from_the_Past&image=SkydiveRoger.jpg&img=&tt= If you look at the next picture in the sequence, I am on the left. In fact, if you look at my gallery under the title "Under Canopy," you will see a shot of me under my Strato Star at Sturgis that very weekend! Hard to tell from your avitar what you might have looked like then... :) ----------------------- Roger "Ramjet" Clark FB# 271, SCR 3245, SCS 1519
  6. I have one of Smitty's business cards. Holy cow! Is that Ron Schott from Z-Hills?!? ----------------------- Roger "Ramjet" Clark FB# 271, SCR 3245, SCS 1519
  7. Everyone hang in there, the gaps WILL be closed! Bill wanted to get the site up and running so decided to start things off with what was available at the time. Thanks everyone for the positive comments. I'm very happy to have been able to help with this. It's a real stroll down memory lane to page through this stuff
  8. See attached what? ----------------------- Roger "Ramjet" Clark FB# 271, SCR 3245, SCS 1519
  9. Hey Andy, I just went to the link you posted and I have to say I agree 100%! ----------------------- Roger "Ramjet" Clark FB# 271, SCR 3245, SCS 1519
  10. Ok, I made the spelling change. WARNING: Sometimes Bill sends me a whole new spreadsheet and I replace all the data in a table (like VSCR for example). There is a good chance the spelling would be wrong again, so keep an eye on it or email Bill and have him correct his master sheet. ----------------------- Roger "Ramjet" Clark FB# 271, SCR 3245, SCS 1519
  11. Ok, I'll make the change. As for where we'll be at any particular time, that has more to do with Bill and his helper(s) than me. I would email him. ----------------------- Roger "Ramjet" Clark FB# 271, SCR 3245, SCS 1519
  12. Yup, you're in the gaps. . fuk.....ive fallen through the gaps........again. :o) bozo Yeah, you're still imortalized in the database though, just takes a little time to get everything converted and Bill wanted to get something out there so people could see how things will look. I know he does a chunk every day and at least one other person is converting old paper records as well. When he gets a big enough section done, he sends it to me for import. ----------------------- Roger "Ramjet" Clark FB# 271, SCR 3245, SCS 1519
  13. I cant find me on there anywhere. SCS 7220 SCR 11833 bozo Yup, you're in the gaps. In SCS, we are missing numbers 1713 to 7899 (this may not be the only gap). In SCR, 7514 to 14299 have yet to be populated (again, may not be the only gap). More than one person are converting the old paper notebooks and word processing documents to excel. I then export the excel to an intermediate format and import that to the sql database. I'll leave a post here each time I input a new batch until we're done. ----------------------- Roger "Ramjet" Clark FB# 271, SCR 3245, SCS 1519
  14. Great! I see you there, easy last name to search on, you're the only one. ----------------------- Roger "Ramjet" Clark FB# 271, SCR 3245, SCS 1519
  15. I have know Bill for over 25 years and he has never been busy working on anything. Sparky Bill, Tommy Owens's little brother. Had to make a fix to your SCR (assuming it is 7494), some of the values were in the wrong fields. Bill probably did that intentionally since you've known him for so long Tommy, "Capt" Bill, and you are all the same Owens? ----------------------- Roger "Ramjet" Clark FB# 271, SCR 3245, SCS 1519
  16. I used to think my FB# was really high until I read this thread.... ----------------------- Roger "Ramjet" Clark FB# 271, SCR 3245, SCS 1519
  17. I have added a bunch of new records to the SCR, SCS, and NSCR databases on Bill's "Bob Buquor Memorial" web site. There are still a number of gaps in the data, but Bill is busy working on getting those filled in (with some help). If you haven't visited the site, you should check it out at: http://www.scr-awards.com/index.html ----------------------- Roger "Ramjet" Clark FB# 271, SCR 3245, SCS 1519
  18. Hmmm, progression of rigs. * 1st Jump 7TU T-10 static line. * 1st owned 7TU 28 C-9 in B12 with belly wart. * Added one-shot capewell conversion kit. * Added Poptop reserve. *Went to work for Bill Booth and built myself one of the first Wonderhogs (one shots there too). * Had first (and only) mal on C-9 with Wonderhog, One shots worked great, plastic main ripcord thrown away, plastic reserve ripcord deployed my 26' Navy Con. * Bought first Strato Star sold in Florida through Booth. * Went to work for Bill Buchman and built myself an Eagle, stuck with One Shots as I didn't think the 3 ring really offered anything over them (except extra maintenance). * Started building my own design, same one shots and same canopies. I jumped a lot of other canopies to try them, but never changed what I had. It worked every time, why mess with success? I still think a properly tuned, properly packed Strato Star will open every time. ----------------------- Roger "Ramjet" Clark FB# 271, SCR 3245, SCS 1519
  19. Gold Pioneer twin zip jumpsuits with French Paraboots in early 70's - I'm thinking Golden Knights. But the post says Europe? In an unsuccessful Google search to find it, I did find out that the first ever 8-way was done in the US, in 1965 ... (and it wasn't GK ) sorry this is a bit of a hijack but this is very interesting reading: http://www.cs.fiu.edu/~esj/uwf/uwf6.htm Hey, I'm in that book... look in chapter 5 for "Hey man, you're late..." ----------------------- Roger "Ramjet" Clark FB# 271, SCR 3245, SCS 1519
  20. Was it a special weekend there? If it was the east coast record attempts, I was there with the Loadstar (it was Z-Hills' plane piloted by Bill Buchman). Seems like we had 2 DC-3s and the Loadstar. Roger Nelson was organizing that weekend. If you were there, maybe we met? ----------------------- Roger "Ramjet" Clark FB# 271, SCR 3245, SCS 1519
  21. Had I known what I now do about L Stalls I wouldn've been caught dead on it. There was some rich guy there at that boogie (near the site of the Hindenburg crash) who bought lotsa lobster for all to eat. Anyone present who remembers that???? Oh, yes. Here's my kid NOW along with her sister who had not yet been born. ___________________ You're not jumping from skyvans then are you? According to Bill Buchmann, they have exactly the same problem. The Deland skyvan has a stripe painted on the floor that the jumpers are instructed not to go aft of until the pilots say they are ready (according to Bill). When Palatka got a loadstar, they brought it over to Z-Hills to learn to fly jumpers with it. Bill flew right seat on the first flight, I was in the rear of the plane. On takeoff, the aircraft entered the steepest climb I had ever seen. I was sure we were going in when I heard the engine power reduced and shortly thereafter the nose came back down. Bill had saved the plane and all of us by knowing what to do and when (the pilot's first reaction was to increase power). Of course it's been 30 years, so I could have that all wrong, have to ask Bill next time I'm in Deland... It was that incident that made me take a good look at who was at the controls of any future Loadstars I jumped from.... ----------------------- Roger "Ramjet" Clark FB# 271, SCR 3245, SCS 1519
  22. I have been in Florida, Z-hills in 1981 and Deland a few years ago but have lived in CA since before I started jumping. Sparky Ok, but your profile says:Location: North America/United States/Florida. Does that mean you have moved to Florida or what? I'm going to visit both Deland and Z-Hills this summer and I plan to try and meet as many dzcommers that I have "hung out with" here as I can. ----------------------- Roger "Ramjet" Clark FB# 271, SCR 3245, SCS 1519
  23. I'm pretty sure one went in at Casa Grande as well and another almost went in there (saved by the just retired from the Air Force test pilot at 4000ft after stall at 12,500ft). It was one of my favorite jump planes, but only in the hands of the right pilot (like Bill Buchmann for example). ----------------------- Roger "Ramjet" Clark FB# 271, SCR 3245, SCS 1519
  24. Speaking of stories, how is it you are in Florida, but your home DZ is listed as: Perris/Elsinore? Your name seems familier to me, but that may be just from your many posts on the forums here, think we may have ever met? ----------------------- Roger "Ramjet" Clark FB# 271, SCR 3245, SCS 1519
  25. Since I'm on the story kick, here is how I remember the pre-star thing.... I had not met Roger yet when I came to IL. Bill Buchmann and I had flown the Loadstar up for the summer which was a huge hit since they were jumping from 182s and such at Hinkley at the time. On one of the first loads, the organizer put Roger and Roger together near the end of the load (29 jumpers max as I remember in that plane). Roger introduced himself and asked me if I wanted to do a pre-star. I said something like "Ok, what's a pre-star?" He told me and I was up for it. On exit, I turned around and he pinned me with a big grin (on both our faces, I'm sure). When we broke to head for the building formation below, I thought to myself "ok, now I'm going to burn him getting down there" and went into my best dive. After a couple of seconds, I look over and there is Roger right next to me with an incredulous look on his face (on both our faces). We got in the star uneventfully and landed the same. Over he comes while I'm packing and says "I can usually outrun anyone!" I said the same back to him and I think that started our 3 decade friendship. I jumped with him and Carl all that summer and they came down to Z-Hills for the following Turkey meet. I even corresponded with him while he was incarcerated. Roger was one of the most natural free fallers I've ever been in the air with, I thought he could do anything. I will miss him always.... ----------------------- Roger "Ramjet" Clark FB# 271, SCR 3245, SCS 1519
