How often do you get scared skydiving?
firstime replied to drakeshelby's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
understood, maybe your not getting my point.... get out if the plane has an engine problem... If it's under 1000' do you get out???? would I??????????????..it depends on the what the pilot would say. I cant believe I am engaging in this thread, must be the booze. If I go to bed now how are you all going to solve your problems while I am sleeping. Now I am laughing at myself.. be well, be safe. -
Bravo Scott, I could not have said it better. I am not gay but because of friends and family I know quite a bit on the subject and SCOTT IS RIGHT ON TARGET

no, tandems r not made for you, I started at 45 and I did a tandem 3x. I would not have had any other way. Some people think it's a waste of money Don't listen to them, AFF is the way to go

How often do you get scared skydiving?
firstime replied to drakeshelby's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
ok lets do this... replaced the word scared with careful hence if your not being careful during a skydive you are going to get hurt & then some. Being "scared" makes you careful.. and most important is respect. -
How often do you get scared skydiving?

The first 2000' in the plane (I have no control) the rest of the plane is no problem because I can get out if it has a failure. As for the skydive, yup I am scared and I dont expect it to go away, the more jumps I have the type of concern (scared) changes. One thing about being scared is it keeps one focused. -
I guess one would have a good spot because of the winds can be so different at that altitude. Come to think of it... it's got to be a real good spot.

my question is..and don't beat me up.. My rig is new 10/03 equipped with the cypress 2. I hav'nt jumped it since late Nov,03. Should I turn the cypress once in a while. Are my thoughts in the dark ages like a watch battery going dead if you let it sit. For the cost of it I would think not. When unsure, this is where I go for an education.

landed off 3 times, 1st was AFF, the guy on the radio forgot I was there, all I heard at 2500 was "find an out" which I did and a great stand up and no one saw it. The second, still on AFF not paying attention to uppers but still made a decision high, I didnt mind the walk. The 3rd was on my 50th jump, 1st on my rig, again my fault.... 1st one out and a really bad spot, had an out and a really long walk. Yeah I have made some mistakes but my training from some good instructors allow me to be here today. On those 3 outs, the 1st was clear (no way) the 2nd & 3rd were " maybe I can make it " I am not good enough for a maybe so I found an out.. No biggie What I am saying is if look down and say maybe.. DON'T try to get back... I also was fortunate that both dropzones had some good outs. At 55 jumps "maybe" is not in my vocabulary.

good answer, flip on your back and chances are your handle will come around for you to see. If not go back to belly and do the reserve. Hey you landed ok I agree with bikerbabe but would I have done that?? who knows, but it was my 1st thought even before reading the posts. But your pilot was still stowed which is cool. Congrats on your decision.

break up with your significant other now so they wont blame it on skydiving

Yup, did the same thing. after 45 min on my living room floor, I felt a vein popping from my head. I sat back had a beer and stared at the expanding blob like a bad puppy. Then tried again with alot more patience, 30 minutes later I wanted to cut it up in little pieces. Now I have 2 more choices 1). enroll in anger management or 2). The ole $5.00 bill in the packing hut. Dumpster was right.. Then you want to throw a brick at the TV watching Billy Weber and his magic wazoo.

Welcome to the forums and the sport. I bought my rig at my 50th jump. went new @ $5800. Only have 5 jumps on it and expect to do at least 100 this summer. I jumped a navigator 200 during my AFF and bought a PD 190 sabre 2. Some peolple say how much $ you save not renting...NOT... It,s great to know who has had the rig on the last jump.. ME.. Hey, go with a good used rig because you will downsize, I went new because I had some extra $ in my pocket... now I dont.. I should have went for the 3K and and the extra 2800K on jump tickets.. What the hell was I thinking... Enjoy, be safe and be smart. -
GREAT VIDEO. And perfect example of the funnel

Chest strap save on load, How common is this?
firstime replied to skydonkey's topic in Safety and Training
well here is a response to the "no rig" and totally off the subject. About 20 yrs ago I borrowed my inlaws mobile home. Off we go with 3 other couples. I was driving with the cruise on, feet up on the console I finished my coffee and yup you guessed it. I got up to walk in the back and as I stood up I saw 7 horrified faces. But got back to drivers seat in time. That was funny, but the no rig thing is not... NO Brain farts please>>>>> -
Eye Contact...Do you have it?
firstime replied to dgskydive's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
great advice, everything that we learn always includes eye contact. I taught my kids eye contact when crossing the street, playing ball, skeaking to people, changing lanes while driving. How about walking towards someone and instinctivly move when you catch eye contact. We (people) can for the most part have a heads up on a persons next move just by looking at their eyes. . So lets incorporate this theory with freefall hence canopy flight. Lets try the eye contact thing,... I'll give it a try and get back to you -
USPA Member ??? READ THIS !!!

that was a good guess because it was right on as per NY state insurance law. I am sure most States abide by the same. There is no "bottom line" with insurance in regards to home owners Ins or personal liability umbrella because all insurance companies dictate their policies with such ambiguity to go in their favor when the gray area is involved. Here is the deal with homeowners liability and umbrella. There is an added endorsement called incidental business that would cover you in the event that you damage someone ( punitive or property) it would be covered provided it was incidental & accidental. Incidental would mean that you are compensated and not your main source of income. And accidental is usually always covered. Now comes the lawyers to prove without your weekend paycheck you cant pay your bills...UT OH "no longer incidental" Start digging in your own pocket brother. This is just for the part timer. Lets go to the weekend fun jumper, ...if you damage anything or anyone(punitive or property) assuming it was a mistake DUH.. your home owners ins and or umbrella policy have to step up to the plate (as per NY State) and I challenge anyone out there to dispute this. NO I AM NOT A LAWYER!!! just an informed person. -
Thanks Tomspoon, Didnt know there was such a difference between the sabre & sabre 2. Thanks to these forums, I do now??

its easy to say relax, but its not that easy when you begin. The second you get stable dont look down, just look left right, the terrain will take your mind off the "am I doing this right" look at your instructor because his is going to be right there in your face. Smile and give him a thumbs up. Once you feel that you can fly... Its a done deal... prepare for your life to change. Be Well, be Safe and Listen

welcome to skydiving, enjoy these forums as they are loaded with years of experience.

I am a newbie and did a whole lot of research prior to buying a rig and the majority of responses were in favor of the the sabre2. With my exit weight @ 188 the 190 was perfect. I have 5 jumps on it and all were off heading, but not severe. With reading these threads I guess this season is going to be a "whacker". Body position has a huge effect??
