Sure, and proud of it. I used to live in LA from 79 until 83. I enjoyed all the positive things in California life, but had to move away at the time my kids started the school as I did not want them to grow up in drug infested society. Unfortunately in Finland the things turned bad after joining EU, and at the moment it is no different in drug scene if compared to US. Safe heaven has crumbled down in few years with huge cost to the society and sorrow to families. If you use drugs, be my quest. It's your life. Take an overdose, so much faster for everyone. However, if one sells or distributes drugs, he is profiteering on the misery of someone else. There is only one way to deal with such individual, snuff him/her before the cancer spreads. If it is the society that takes care of the task, so much better. Having worked many years in countries like Singapore, Saudi Arabia etc... and while admitting that these countries have plenty of their own problems at least the drug scene is dealt with high efiency and low cost.

What is the correct procedure for sliding landing? PLF is well explained and trained, but on this one I have not seen / received any instructions. Cheers: JL

Anyone carrying drugs at DZ should be barred for life. Anyone doing drugs while skydiving should be reported and have his/hers license pulled. Anyone selling drugs in general, should be hanged from his/hers neck until dead. Then displayed in public until the rats have gnawed him/her away. End of problem. Cheers: JL

does anyone NOT get nervous when they jump?
w4p2 replied to Newbie's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I think it all comes down to definitions. I would not jumps if I would have a fear for it, nor would I jump if I would be scared, For me, these are things that spell danger and marginal performance. If thats the case, then it is better to stay away and concentrate on dirt jump until the feeling goes away. Jumping certainly feels different than going to supermarket.... so what is it? I do not think that it is being nervous. For me it is more like anticipation, heightened awareness and high concentration. I think it all winds down to definition, but in the end we are all talking of the same feeling. Otherwise they would have guys charging 15 USD fees at supermarket entrances. Cheers: JL P.S. I am a total newbie in this thing and certainly not in a position to run my mouth as I had a minor fracture on my leg following a landing mistake on my second jump. Cheap lesson and shit happens. Few weeks more and I am back to shore ready to continue from where I left. Nervous....BS.... but already having this tingling feeling of anticipation. -
The dreams were the reason I started skydiving. The dreams date from as long as I remember. They are not so much of skydiving as of soaring, flying without an engine. The dreams are very clear and realistic and always positive to extreme. I also realized that they often occur while I am onboard my ship.... sleeping to the slow roll of ocean waves. When I had my first canopy flight I had this awesome feeling that I had been here meny times before. It was fantastic. However, the best part of my dreams is that I can force them to happen while concentrating on flight images just before the sleep overtakes. I have tried to cultivate this gift and have arrived to the point that I can continue the dream from a point that I left it the night before. Almost as good as reality. So while sailing, I can still soar like an eagle. Cheers: JL

I share your view 100% Quote cheers: JL

You are correct in what you say. I think that the gradual freefall increase is well thought of for obvious reasons, but I still think the pull out height could be higher. If a have a choise, I prefer diving into a pool from the deep end, even if I could do it from the shallow one.

Now there is a real birdman suit.

The part of s/l program I am referring to is the actual free fall training / clear and pull. I think that Tombuch pretty much read my mind, because I was wondering if this was a carryover from days past. As for altitude dependency as mentioned by Jumpervali I agree, but on the same token if you say that 2 experienced AFF instructors reserve themselves an extra 2000 feet spare, to bring a potential problem student under control. I would like to have the same amount of extra time to get hold of myself, if required. Hey.... I am there by myself and you lads are doing a gang bang. It is not a big deal, just something that has puzzled me and its good to hear your reasoning. Cheers: JL

Remembering your thread of gay marriages, the only thing I can say is that U sure like to stir up some shit.

Here is a question that has puzzled my newbie mind: What is the reason that freefall section on S/L training starts so low, basically centering around pull out height of roughly 3000 feet. What ever the freefall time is, I would feel more secure with a jump profile, where the pull out would be at 4000 or even 5000 feet. This would give me a slightly longer period to react to potential problems etc.... It would also provide for longer canopy flight and time for practice the canopy control. So... why so low? AFF is a different ballgame, but not available at my DZ. The Dz is small, traffic is not a concern.... so why then? Somebody trying to save gas or what? Cheers: JL

Very valuable information. Tx. What is the likelihood of the situation developing into bow tie or similar at low altitudes / under the hard deck. That is the thing that makes me wonder. Despite of my diminutive experience I have tried to think the situation over and over and only solution that I have come up with is reserve deployment without chop. (Jumping round reserve). Scary crap. I would actually prefer to jump high and do my own throw outs, but unfortunately AFF is not available in my nick of neighborhood. For me altitude equals safety. This brings me to an other question that I have been wondering about. The point of making the freefalls in s/l training from low altitudes.... I will open a new thread on it on this forum. Once more, ty, your comments are highly appreciated. Cheers: JL

Split penises, huhuhuh. However body modification is a long living tradition among the sailors. One interesting example is Filipino sailors ( whom I respect very much). There is a tradition to insert a small marble underneath the penile skin for every year you have sailed. This is done in order to provide the wife additional pleasure upon mans return from long voyage. I run into this tradition on a ship where I had to stop the practice due to infections etc. Now can u imagine a bosuns mate that has sailed 40 years. Don't tell your kids. cheers: JL

This ballgame is boobytrapped

If one has to find verbal justification in order to see if he/she can call herself/himself a skydiver, I find it hilarious. Why does one have to ask, why does one have to tell. Selfpromotion? Trying to impress? I am ready to puke. No its better to open the mouth. Goes to the same category as these padi wankers wearing their nightdive, cavedive, deepdive, muffdive stickers in public. I puke twice. Now I am just a bloody healing s/l student waiting to get back to dz in few weeks time. A skydiver.... get serious..... please call me captain kangaroo if u like.... For me jumping is the only thing counting. All the rest is repulsive blaah blaah.

Quote It turned into a lethal injection ----------------------------------------------------------- Too bad. Would have been nice to have her hanging around a bit.

Self pity is a mental disorder. You want to call yourself queen of kangaroos, go ahead. If I don't want to call you that, well that is my choice. Nothing to do with being rude etc... If you then publicly ask me if I consider you queen of kangaroos and I tell you hell no, what is the big deal. Thats my opinion and my right to state so. " Bean in the nose.... Neurological emergency? "

What are the factors that you pick a DZ?
w4p2 replied to kyros1's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
How about safety record and gear? -
20 times during a career at given DZ, fine. But what do you say about it happening in one out of three or four jumps. An instructor that I know, told that this is what happened to her, and it is not a big deal. So be it, but ocuring on a student rig, the frequency got me rather concerned. In addition to above, it appears the line twists on the mentioned student rigs are rather a rule than an exception even in stable / good SL exits. Are the two above mentioned situations indications of a canopy getting out of shape, extensive wear on the rig, or is it just everyday blues with student gear. Cheers: JL

What is your opinion on a situation where 280 f2 Manta loaded to .9 has a PC over the leading edge, while being piloted by student. Canopy flies ok and and turns and flares well at high altitude, but what are the dangers and potential problems when flying such canopy in to the landing. No chop situation but....? How common this situation is or should be with spring assisted PC launch? Cheers: JL

Wish you speedy recovery. Good vibes from offshore Brazil. Kind Regards: JL

newb with a twisted ankle and a question
w4p2 replied to ironeagle's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Thanks for the clarification. I appreciate your experience and wealth of knowledge but thought to ask for clarification, because as you properly pointed out, hard fact statistics on other, than major incidents are very hard to find. It would be very interesting to know, if any of the national organizations, that take out group medical insurances for the jumpers would be in position to publish the statistics of the claims as well as jump types and numbers on their particular area of operations. I think that this information would be a valuable addition to our general knowledge of our sport. Safe landings: JL -
newb with a twisted ankle and a question
w4p2 replied to ironeagle's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
"The injury rate for tandem students is less than 1 per thousand" and "Solo landings are generally easier and injuries are even rarer" ----------------------------------------------------------- Two very interesting statements. Could you specify what is considered basis for an injury ( Insurance claim? Hospital admission? Emergency room visit? Sick leave? What?) and further Could you inform, what is the source of such statistics? Cheers: JL -
I have been also looking, no luck so far. If U find it, please post it. Ready to bust some virtual tibula. LOL

Microsoft flight sim is pretty cool. I know I can crash 747 with big bang. Has anybody heard about skydive sim? I would love to know what I could do with a pocket rocket?
