    So, I went to Texas with my now-Ex this Christmas Break. She had me park around the corner. "Why?" I asked. "Because Real men here don't drive Cars." she quipped as she glared at my Nissan Sentra. So, I guess to be cool in the nicer part of Houston, I need to buy an SUV or a big ass truck to drive from home to school and to the Dropzone. Who cares if it burns Gas like the Irish drink Beer, if it's what "real men" do, what can you say? I think Americans have a lot to learn, until then I don't feel too bad paying $3.10 for gas, because I know it's stinging the soccer moms and macho dudes way more.

    0:3:1 What a great weekend! Last week, I ended up inspecting and repacking 8 reserve canopies including 4 pilot rigs, and come Saturday, my rig is outta date. You know the old adage of the barefoot shoemaker?!?! Well, I showed up to the DZ, with no rig, just intending to pack for students (I figure as a Rigger I need a certain amount of pro bono work...). Either way, I helped set up a SL direct bag system (we use PC assist) and test jumped it. Then friendly jumpers were more than happy to lend me a rig when we got backed up on students. It felt good though. I taught a few packing lessons, helped with the book keeping, and I honestly had a good time at the DZ without jumping. =========Shaun ==========

    Okay, so Don is a big thinker. He would host WFFC this year, make it just as big as, oh say, Couch Freaks, but at least it'll be there. We don't need 6 Otters, 2 Casa's, a King Air, two Skyvans, the PAC, and everything . 3 Otters and a Casa and Mullins would be perfect.

    On a more serious topic - how many skydiving accidents have been attributed, at least in part, to marijuana? Are there jumpers at your DZ that toke up then jump? Would your DZO mind?!!? =========Shaun ==========

    This is a serious question - I'll put it in SC in case the military issue raises some discussion. What does it take for a soldier to get demoted in rank? A good friend of mine's Husband, an Intelligence clerk in Iraq, was just demoted 2 ranks and now he can never be alone, on duty, or off, until he returns home. Is this common at all in Iraq? Is there a significant difference from being demoted 1 rank or two? I'm trying to get an idea for what kind of soldier he is. His wife, a good friend of mine, doesn't know about this yet, as he was really low on the totem pole to begin with (I'm thinking E4, he's been in for about 2 years, but he wasn't moving up at all.) What are some things that would warrent a demotion? Does anybody know personally where a demotion was issued? =========Shaun ==========

    My Comp has bad resolution - but was that smoke pouring out of the hood when the car stopped!!?!? It was like a Double Kill - First hit took the deer airborne, then the second hit finished it off. Kinda reminds me of the Old Sega Game "Moral Kombat" =========Shaun ==========

    I agree. Then they post their old gutter gear on DZ.com, then a newly licensed skydiver, without consulting a Rigger or knowledgeable instructor, show up, "HEY!! Look at my new rig!! It was a killer deal!!" That's happened twice in the last 4 months and twice I've turned their business away.... =========Shaun ==========

    I would prefer Romney. IMHO, at least he has the balls to say "I don't Know." instead of pulling the usual BS politicians do to look smart. If I had to choose for a Democratic Candidate, I'd take Obama because I believe him to be the lesser of 2 evils. =========Shaun ==========

    I guess getting this thread back on track, I found a really nice, semi-neutral obituary on him from the Salt Lake Tribune. I'm sure you could find more Pro-Mormon or Anti-Mormon obituaries out there, but I think this one may give everyone an idea as to why the LDS community thought so highly of their leader of 12-13 years. Gordon B. Hinckley Obituary Here are some exerpts I though were nice things to say about him and his efforts in helping those around him... He was a very good man. I had the chance to meet him on a number of occasions, and I know his grandchildren and great-grandchildren in Missouri well. He tried and worked hard his whole life to build bridges, and find more commonalities with our faith and others. He had a good heart, and we are sad for his passing.     Methinks that many people are running around comparing apples to Oranges. AWL71 has a strong faith in something he believes to be true. He can't prove it to you or to anyone else - hence faith comes in. This horse has been ridden from here to China, and you just need to respect his faith, as he needs to respect your beliefs as well. Saying a belief is silly is awfully childish, even for SC. Disagree, but don't' be disrespectful. No amount of post whoring in the world can convince either party that he/she is wrong. =========Shaun ==========

    I'm cruising away right now, and I'm never going to look back. Even if I get paid pennies, for me, the satisfaction of completing this is worth it. I grew up in a home where "Are you going to college" was never asked, it was always assumed, and I'm grateful that my padres put the value of education in my mind at a young age. =========Shaun ==========

    From an Industrial engineering standpoint - It's all okay, trust me. The backlog helps keep prices in check and ensures that they are running a clean shop.

    I pack several a Week - as a matter of fact, I probably pack MORE round reserves than I do squares!!! I do the rigging at our Dropzone, but I also do rigging for a aerobatic flight club, as well as about 5 or 6 private aircraft owners that use Emergency systems in their aircraft. In my "in" shelf,I have 2 or 3 Strong Seat-type systems I need to have out by Feb. 8th, I'll set up my tables and do them in a long afternoon. Mind, I do not pack rounds for sport skydivers..... I pack a lot of new rounds for pilots, and the oldest one I've packed in the last month or so was a 1998.

    What bums me out is that these people are most likely skydivers, or at least seem to know something about skydiving, else they wouldn't know the first thing about posting their "gear." I have bought, sold, and helped many people buy their first rigs on DZ.com . Yes, it's riskty, but use a third party!!. As a Rigger, I am always happy to have people send me their gear for an inspection, after I've called their rigger and their DZO to make sure they are the real thing. Just take it slow and talk to people.... =========Shaun ==========
