It is kinda hard to see, but here is a picture where you can see that there is slack in the control lines as he is on the rear risers. Pro swoopers tend to run a little more slack in the control lines than an average guy, but that is because they don't want the control lines to be tight when using front risers or giving rear riser input. If you find that when you pull down a front riser and the caopy buffets, you probably need to lengthen your control lines a bit.

Best Wing Loading for a Velocity
ccowden replied to Velocity84's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
I believe that the 'sweet spot' for a Velocity is around 2.1 to 2.3 to get the best all-around performance. If distance is what you want, then I think people are jumping slightly larger wings. I have a 103 that I am loading at about 2.0 and it is great, but I am looking to sell it and get a 96 so that I can be in that 2.2 range. I do believe that if you are getting deep in toggles, that something in your technique is off. The characteristics you are describing shouldn't be true for a Velocity loaded at 2.4. -
Oh Alli, sweetie, it was great to meet you too! I too wish the weather had been better so we could have jumped, but I am sure we will soon! Love you girls to death!

Next time just grab both sides of my head, give me a big kiss, and say "It's Dove, DUH!" Sorry I missed ya!
-
Well, I don't recall seeing anything quite like that to go by! And Dee- Yes that is certainly tempting! Especially since I woke up to 4 inches of snow, sleet and rain!
-
Are you kidding?? You recognized me and didn't introduce yourself?! I was looking for you all day, but was never sure because I have never had a good picture that would make me recognize you. That sucks! I wish you would had said who you are. I wanted to meet you!

It was my pleasure! Glad you had fun! Yes, this weather up here is getting a little old! I am defintely ready for spring!

Well, I got back from my vacation in Florida yesterday and am now in cold NY! But I had a great time and it was awesome to meet you all! I wish the weather would have been a little better, but I managed 4 jumps and finally meet some great people! Thank you Mel and Alli for those long-awaited hugs! They were worth the trip alone!

I have my Velocity 103 in a TJN. Tight, but certainly doable.

Safety in High-Performance Canopy Piloting
ccowden replied to conor's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
Man, if that was anything other than very soft sand and water..... I don't think he would have lived. That is certainly eye-opening footage of how bad a mistake can be! I am glad he walked away! You don't get to see hits like that on video much to learn from, simply because they are almost always a fatality and are not circulated. -

I am so sorry to hear this. I just went through it myself and it was only with the love and support from so many people that kept me going. Lean on your friends and family. I pray for your comfort in this difficult time.

My thoughts and prayers are with Tom, his family, and all who are close to him. Be strong!

Here is the idea I drew for Alli.

If I submit, and win, can I have a kiss from every Pink Mafia girl???

Well, I just watched the video and I have to admit, it's not bad flying. Although, just like we tried to tell Alchemy, you guys are way too tight! You hardly use any sky at all! I could show you video after video of ours that shows how we are all over the place using as much sky as possible. All on purpose, of course! But you guys are part of this "new movement" in freeflying where you fly so smooth and tight. Well, you do what you want. Oh, by the way- I am completely kidding! You guys are freakin' amazing! Sweet video and some absolutely killer flying! Thanks for sharing! Is there a list I can get on for a copy of the DVD?

I think at this stage you are talking about given jump numbers and what you are looking for, I would go with the downsize. If you feel totally confident with your Sabre loaded at 1.2 and assuming you have flown it to it's limits, as you stated, then I think staying with the Sabre and loading a little heavier would be a better learning tool to getting more proficient with canopy flight. I would also recommend a Sabre2. They tweaked the original Sabre and made it a much better canopy all around. I would put atleast a couple hundred more jumps on a non-elliptical and learn the characteristics of a heavier loaded wing before I went to a different performance class canopy. Just my thoughts. Hope it helps. I also think the best thing is always to talk to an experienced canopy pilot who has seen you jump to get their input.

I agree totally. We all mess up once in awhile, myself included. But I have learned that there is much more to this sport than just the jumps. The people in the sport are what matters and how we care for each other. Missy has been a true inspiration to me! The Nationals are a way for skydivers of all levels and disciplines to showcase their stuff. I don't think that profitting is the main goal of the video. I think it is a great way to let people see what other teams are doing and see what the best of the best are doing as well. The Nationals are more about comraderie and showcasing, not money.
