A group of us did a balloon jump at Perris a week ago, cost was $65 per person.

www.dirtdive.co.uk http://www.thekitstoreltd.co.uk/ Both stock a number of videos, I have always been pleased with the service from Dirtdive too. Don't forget, if you get hit with VAT and Duty when ordering from the states, it can as much as double the cost of the video!

March 31st - April 14th...theres a whole group of people coming over from the UK, so we shouldn't hard to miss! BTW, what are the jump prices at Elsinore these days? Just trying to work out how far my $ will go! Cheers,
-
Great - thats exactly what I was hoping to hear!

Hi, I'm heading over to Elsinore next week , but wanted to check if anyone knows if there is an Internet cafe on/near the dropzone? Thanks,

The casino is $27/night for skydivers. Do be warned though that there will be a lot of Brits at that time, as the BCPA Foreign Trip is coming to town.

The original Cypres counts down from 9999 to 0. The Cypres 2 will countdown from 10 to 0. No, if it shows a number other than 0 (i.e. 1111) is displayed during the the self-test countdown, there is an error. If after the countdown it displays 0, it has passed the self-test and is ready to use. Hope this helps,

Border Parachute Centre (Brunton UK) Send Off
Malev replied to WayneRATS's topic in Events & Places to Jump
Yep, the Cessna 185 is going down with a load of jumpers, plus there will probably be a few other people making their way down for the weekend. -
Correct me if I'm wrong here, but isn't it 200 jumps to get your CSI rating in the UK? This person would be more than qualified to get both their coach and CSI Instructor ratings over here. AFF instructors are a different matter of course, requring a minimum of 1000 jumps.

I user Sorz myself, and I know a few other contact lens wearers do as well at our DZ, and have never had any problems with my contacts yet.

Unionist and Nationalist. Now please go, read the background I gave you earlier, and stop talking nonsense. Read about the rIRA, IRA CIRA, RHD, OV, UVF, UFF, LVF. Read about the politicial conflict, the economic conflict and the violent conflict. I notice you mentioned the word "Catholic" six times in your reply, but not the word Protestant once - why this imbalance when referring to a conflict so mired in religious backgrounds? Oh, and don't start into the you must be "liberal" becuase you don't agree with me nonsense, thats just pathetic.
-
The reality is that your "facts" are wrong - and it is shockingly clear that you do not know what you are talking about. I don't where to start, other than to point you at some information on the background to the Northenr Ireland troubles and suggest you read that - since you are currently so grossly unaware of the real situation.
-
The IRA, and similar groups, are referred to as terrorists because they are. Heres are some facts to put this into perspective for you - 3023 people died in the WTC attacks. 3523 people have died in the Northern Ireland troubles. Heres a quote from a report after the Omagh bombing, one of the worst attacks against civilians carried out by the Real IRA (a splinter group from the IRA): "The Omagh fatality list reads like a microcosm of troubles deaths, and left no section of Irish life untouched. The town they attacked is roughly 60-40 Catholic-Protestant, and the dead consisted of Protestants, Catholics, a Mormon and two Spanish visitors. They killed young, old and middle-aged, fathers, mothers, sons, daughters and grannies. They killed republicans and unionists, including a prominent local member of the Ulster Unionist Party. They killed people from the backbone of the Gaelic Athletic Association. They killed unborn twins, bright students, cheery shop assistants and many young people. They killed three children from the Irish Republic who were up north on a day trip. Everyone they killed was a civilian. The toll of death was thus both extraordinarily high and extraordinarily comprehensive." Read that, and then tell me again that these are the terrorists who "aren't so bad as the PLOs".

I jump with contacts, and haven't had any problems to date. On the recommendation of other contact lens wearers in the forums, I purchased a pair of Sorz goggles - and they seem to do the trick preventing contacts from being blown out during freefall.

Crazy fuel prices?!? America has some of the lowest fuel prices in the world. Petrol is almost 3 times cheaper in the US than it is in the UK. The only thing thats crazy is how low they are...

It was a leaked report. Essentially, this report simply says that some particles of enriched uranium have been found, Iran has given one plausible explanation for these, some investigation is needed to see if this is actually true. Thats it.

Exactly. To anyone who understands the BBC/Government relationship, it is just a totally off-the-wall suggestion. Unfortunately it that the posters accusing the BBC of being a government mouthpiece just don't understand what they are talking about.
-
Seconded - we may not have the big airplanes, but the people who jump there more than make up for it.

These are the four check stages done when packing under supervision (whilst learning how to pack). Actually, the check stages never stop - but once you have your packing certificate you can sign yourself off for these, rather than having to get a certified packer do it for you. Once you've packing about 10 - 15 rigs, you should probably be ready to do the test. You have to be signed off for every different container/canopy/deployment system that you pack. At our DZ, you can't get paid for packing until you have your certificate, plus it makes life much easier when you don't have to stop and try and find someone to do a check every so often - so its worth getting it.

Different people have different opinions on this, so chances are you'll get a whole load of different answers here. For what its worth, my first jump was my AFF Level 1, and I know this was the best thing for me. There are plenty of people who do AFF without doing a tandem. There are also lots who do one, or even a few, tandems first. Do whatever you feel most comfortable with, and what your instructors recommend, but don't be pressured into doing a tandem just because your mate did. On the other hand, if it makes you feel more comfortable then sure, do one first.

The thing is - we're just not used to temperature like this. For example, the average summer temperature in Scotland is ~55/65F. Recently we've had temperatures around the 80F mark. France was much hotter still. This causes all sorts of problems. Our houses and offices aren't built for such heat, in much the same way that they aren't built to withstand, say, earthquakes. The problem is that we aren't aclimatised to this sort of weather. Its actually not such an isolated thing - for instance the 1980 heat wave in the US is estimated to have resulted in approximately 10,000 deaths*. Again, its the same underlying problem - people can cope with the climate there are used to, but push the boundaries of that either up (too hot) or down (too cold) and its unfortunately going to end in people dying (often the elderly/sick).

Skydiving banned from all federally funded airports
Malev replied to base363's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
From what I gather, its even worse in the US. We (in the UK) have a two-sided sign-up form, which has a paragraph somewhere which says something along the lines of "I accept there is a risk of serious injury or death when participating in the sport". Thats pretty much it. Over there, the wavers are pages long and require an initial beside each paragraph. Thats not to say even that will stop someone suing - lawyers will argue over whether the waiver legal, did the signer really understand the risks, can you sign away your right to sue etc... -
I don't know about the US, but over here in the UK seatbelts are not mandatory.
-
Yep, someone from our DZ who is selling their canopy had a scammer try to pull this on him today. It appears that whoever is behind this is trawling the skydiving classifieds at the moment.
