I respect your positon. Although, we disagree on exactly who Jesus is, you have a basis with the belief in God and you take a stand for what you believe. I agree that this film will hopfully promote discussion and learning.

With women, there's always a shortage in the sex department and they're never satisfied.

My nickname has always been Jaybird since I was a kid. It kind of stuck with me even after I grew up and it also fit well with my skydiving. My cousin, Chuck Blue (SkymonkeyONE), used to call me Pajarito in the late 80's/early 90's when we were stationed together at Ft. Bragg and he was learning to speak Spanish with the Army. Now, I find out that I also picked the name of a Plateau...I'm humbled!

Just trying to be sarcastic and humorous. I guess it didn't work. Nice, picture, though!

I think cows should not only have voting rights but also marriage rights. People should be allowed to marry their cows. It's really a human rights issue when you think about it.

Yes, but bliss is not the same thing as happiness....I guess it's all in how you look at it. A dumb person who floats around all day in the field because he doesn't know how to do anything and doesn't know any better might be happy. However, I know people who are happiest doing differential equations and programmers who are happiest fixing code working at their computers in a closet.

I’ll admit, I didn’t read the entire study so please correct me if I’m wrong. I’m the type of person that always read the Cliff Notes for book reports on ones that didn’t REALLY interest me. Plus, my A.D.D kicks in and really messes me up. I read the abstract as well as the first 4 paragraphs which state three points summed up in the following sentence. “The skills that engender competence in a particular domain are often the very same skills necessary to evaluate competence in that domain–one's own or anyone else's.” What I took from that is that intelligence and the ability to realize one’s level of intelligence is relative and is a product of one’s environment. Therefore, one may be satisfied with his/her level of performance because he/she doesn’t know any better. You don’t realize you’re screwed up if everybody around you is also screwed up. Or, you don’t realize you’re gifted if everybody around you is also and that’s all you’ve ever known. I’m not seeing what that has to do with happiness. The question in the forum pertained to intelligence or the lack thereof as it relates to true happiness. I’m probably looking way too far into this. I agree with Darius11 on this one. I think people, no matter how bright they are or think they are, look for happiness in the wrong place. That doctorate degree on the wall, million dollars you just won in the lottery, or brand new twin otter, will only bring happiness in the short term.

Ok, never mind. I saw the link.

Is that not true? Damn, I'm dumb... That's one of those things I was always told and really didn't care to question. Also, in a previous post, it was said that they're really not spiders (arachnids). If not, then what are they? I'm so confused. Good joke in the beginning!

He's my 1st cousin but I'm better looking than SkymonkeyOne.

I agree completely (for a change ). As was previously stated by someone else, however, there are different degrees of heroism. Heroism is also different for each person. Hard to really define. I would add to the list (and I hope I'm not restating someone else) the wives and husbands of soldiers that stay behind, take care of the families, and keep things in order while the soldiers are away at war. (Marines, Seamen..he..he, Airmen, and Coast Guardsmen included...don't want to insult by just saying soldiers)

I like most all of these. There are some great war movies listed! I have to be different, though, and list "Farewell to the King" with Nick Nolte. It's one of the best movies depicting unconventional "guerilla" warfare that I've seen.

What is a "War" hero? I agree with an earlier post who considered that a war hero would be different for each person. I have my own recent experience but will not mention what I did or where I was in this forum. It doesn't hold a candle to who I feel is a hero to me. The person I looked up to the most who isn't here anymore was my Granddad. He was a member of "The Greatest Generation" when it was expected that you volunteer to serve your county in times of need. He served in the Army Infantry, was part of the amphibious invasion force at Beach Utah, and fought under some of the worst conditions I can imagine across France and Germany. He began the mission as a Platoon Sergeant but, during his tour, received a battlefield commission and, by the end, had been promoted to 1st Lieutenant. He received a Silver Star (for gallantry in action putting his life at great risk while saving a group of fallen soldiers), a Bronze Star, and a Purple Heart (and of course, a Combat Infantryman Badge). He was shot through the hip during The Battle of the Bulge, layed on a hospital bed for 9 months, and was sent back to the front lines. He was also involved in the liberation of Nazi concentration camps in Germany. The details of the stories that he used to tell me over and over again were graphic and detailed. I have the greatest respect for him. I can think of no other person that fits the description of a war hero to me.

Not that I'm aware of. It would be great for them if there was. It might be their only salvation. I felt sorry for them, really. If I was Hatian, I'd make a boat and float to Florida too.
