ABC trying to block the Victim Naming Special?
pajarito replied to freeflydrew's topic in Speakers Corner
I agree. -
I've always been a runner and I've been skydiving for 18 years. I've only hurt my ankle once during that whole time due to an awkward landing and still didn't break anything. It took me out of action for a couple weeks but nothing serious. I'd say you can't live life on the sidelines and be scared of what might happen. I love to run and skydive. I wouldn't give up one for the other. If you skydive, just use your head and minimize the risk of getting hurt.
-
Yeah, but did you check out the stats on it? Holds 17 jumpers. Also, the operational cost comparisons with similar aircraft.
-
Yeah...you'd think, since it was designed with skydiving in mind, that it might have some sort of high horizontal stabilizer at the top of the rudder. I guess they've found it's not a problem, though. I really like it.

Not just the Army brass. According to this article, Scott McClellan said that Bush has known about it for a while as well. Blues, Dave The question is, what could he have done in advance to prevent it? I think a "POW Torture" commission might be in order to determine the truth and how we can prevent it in the future. Again......hold on......hold on......one more second........ffffffffffffftttttttttttttt!!!!
-
That's cool. So Al Gore invented the internet and John Kerry invented new and improved ROE and the ethical treatment of POW's. I'm impressed. He's got my vote! ffffffffffftttttttttttt...
-
Gotta go. Be back later. Interesting discussion.
-
Absolutely.... The MP's probably know the rules better than anybody out there.
-
EXACTLY!!!
-
No....because you should know the rules of engagement before you go into action. No matter what your rank is. We were, in some cases, even required to carry around a card in our pockets declaring in detail what the rules of engagement were.
-
The bottom line is that, in the haze of war, mistakes will be made. However, if one willingly breaks the rules of engagement, they can be held accountable. Even if they are just following orders. And if their superior willingly breaks the rules of engagement and orders you to act illegally, it is your responsibility to report it.
-
See my quote at the top. That doesn't address my question. You don't have any reason to believe otherwise. You find out after the fact. If you found out after the fact that your Commanding Officer ordered you to fire at a house when he knew it was full of civilians and not combatants then it would be your duty to report it. Does that answer it?
-
See my quote at the top.
-
Obviously, there are questions about that and it has not been determined yet. You even stated that, "if eventually it becomes determined." Therefore, what you say is irrelevant at this time.
-
Again, different situation. If you "act on the best intelligence you've got at the time", your commander honestly believes that there are insurgents in the house (or WMD in the country), and tells you to fire on it, you are completly in the right even if it turns out later that you were wrong. That's the haze of war. Mistakes are made. Regretable but a reality. If you have reason to believe otherwise and that there might be civilians in the house instead, however, the order might be questionable.
-
No...as you said, that hasn't been determined. When a law is in place, however, and it is broken, that person should be held accountable. You can't be held accountable for something before it's been declared against the law.
-
Everything you say about Gitmo is questionable but, in regard to Kerry, ignorance of the law is no excuse. I mean, we could all use the excuse that we didn't know till we got back and read the rules that something was wrong.
-
There are orders which may be unlawful. The soldier must use his judgement to determine if it is the "right" thing to do or not. If it is not and he "follows orders" anyway, he can be held accountable.
-
I would hope so. Although if there was direction from CIA et al. to act in this manner as one of the accused alleged, I doubt anything will be going down with regard to their actions. Wouldn't be so sure they way they're under the microscope these days.
-
I said....ahemm....I'm....ahem...s.o.r.r.y.
-
Just heard on the news that GWB vows that the ones responsible will be facing a court-martial.
-
Yes. I would hope that this type of thing is dealt with sufficiently, too. I'm just putting out there that one of the accused, in letters he wrote home before they were caught talked about how they were acting under the direction and approval of military intelligence organizations, the pentagon asked 60 minutes to delay airing the tape, and didn't formally charge anyone until after it was made public. Hey, I don't blame them. I wish they could have taken care of this in a fair way so that justice was served and without this kind of propaganda being made available to the enemy. Like I said, I'm sure this was an isolated incident but is going to have huge repurcussions. I'm just calling it like I see it. "Classification" also has different levels. Just a thought. That's cool, though.
-
Lo siento mucho. You guys/girls that aren't hanging off the left side with one hand aren't so bad. No more generalizations.
-
Man...are you really serious? So you think GWB should be fired because some troops got out of line and broke the rules? Don't you think the the leader in theatre is the one responsible for the troops under him? Don't you think that it's GWB's job to set policy and see that it is enforced? That's what's going to happen. The ones that did this will be brought to justice. The left's spewing hatred for GWB really knows no bounds. It really appears that they're grabbing in desperation for a hand-hold but are loosing their grip.

Did you mean to say non-classified? Of course, classified stuff is kept secret. Maybe I just don’t follow you very well. Maybe….sometimes. I’d say they are few and far between, though. I’d say that they are very much isolated incidents. I’d say that acts of that nature would be dealt with in a harsh manner in these day & times by the military. I wouldn’t jump to the conclusion of a conspiracy.
