My Tandem Master put his hand on my $#@! just before Exit
pajarito replied to motherhucker's topic in The Bonfire
It's just a standard safety check with female passengers and because of their usually wider hips to make sure that the leg straps coming from the hips, over the buttocks, and under the crotch aren't too tight and aren't twisted and that it won't cut off circulation under canopy. It's taught in the course. It's not our fault. Yeah....that's it. -
I voted for my favorite, however, I usually try and look at all of the ones listed in order try and pull as much unbiased information out as possible. All should have been an option.

I'm somewhere in the middle. My faith leads me to ultimately believe, however, I also believe very much in the search for knowledge. Otherwise, it's just "blind faith." There's plenty out there to explore and learn concerning our existence.

Sure. Every day. I'm married to an OB/GYN Physician. Seriously, though. I think, no matter how smart you are and no matter how much education you've obtained, you're arrogant to think that something doesn't or can't exist just because you can't figure it out or can't prove it under a microscope. You don't know and can't prove where something came from so you assume that it just came from nowhere and by itself. That's not logical to me. I just accept that there are things we don't know yet. That doesn't mean we stop trying to learn. It also means, however, that we don't assume we know and can't be questioned just because we've obtained a PHD from some school.

I can never find my pull-up cord... Get it?........string.......theory......

Yeah...see YOU there too. I'm sure you'll be invited. I'm also sure they'll give you a first class seat on the plane so as to accomodate for the size of your vastly superior brain.

I'm absolutely sure that you know more about Quantum electrodynamics than I do but, just because you don't know or can't prove where something came from, doesn't mean it just "poofed" out of nothing.

Someone please correct me if I’m wrong but isn’t the “so help me God” phrase in the court oath mostly symbolic and not necessarily required? I believe the judge has the authority to change it if he/she deems necessary. It’s still against the law to lie on the stand even if you’re an atheist who took the oath as customary, however.

The Bible isn’t a science book. The story doesn’t present the creation of the universe in a scientific manner. That would be incomprehensible to us and especially the people back then. It is an alternate theory to what is being taught, however. It has its place. Paragraph by paragraph from my NIV Bible: The heavens were created first. The Earth was also created in this process (I’m thinking something like “The Big Bang”). Next light and energy were provided as it pertained to Earth (The Sun) and land masses were formed from the ocean as well as a breathable protective atmosphere. Vegetation came next. All this is going on during the initial expansion of the infant universe. Other planets and stars were also being formed and set on their paths. The Earth’s rotation was set in correlation with the Sun and Moon. Water, air, and land animal life were then created. Man and woman were created last in God’s spiritual image. They were given dominion over the Earth. The last day was set aside to be holy and a day of rest. There is no contradiction that I see. As for the 7 days issue, I believe this was written to be somewhat comprehensible to the people of the time. I don’t know how long a day is for God. I believe that he created time and space as a place for us to exist. Similar to how he also created the protective and breathable atmosphere around the Earth so that life on Earth would be possible. I believe that he can control time just like anything else he created. I think he could have literally created the framework for the universe in 7 days and/or I also think he could have done it over the course of millions of years. We were formed from components in the Earth whether you believe in evolution or creation. I think the symbolism in creating woman from the rib of man is that the two became one flesh. Spiritually and physically, they are made for one another. They are life partners and were made to help each other as well as procreate. I try not to deviate from the Bible. If I do so, I assure you that it is completely unintentional. You seem to infer that is what I’m doing by saying, “But if you teach that you are teaching Pajarito's Personal Interpretation of the Bible(TM) not the Biblical story of creation.” Evolution takes God completely out of the equation and is taught as proven fact. I agree that it should be taught in detail but there are other options. Taken back to the source (The Big Bang), Creation is just as valid and should be at least presented. Read Genesis more carefully. You say that I’m reading into it what I want but I say that you’re doing the same. Probably so, however, the “separation of church and state” people won’t allow that in public schools. Too bad.

I guess "whatever keeps your hampster wheel turning."

Dude...you kill me. I'll bet they like that crispy lettuce too.
-
Oh...well then...it must be true.
-
And "Under God" in the Pledge would work with you too.
-
Really...."how do it know???"

I believe you may be right. But how do you rationalize christian dogma with that belief? The same way others rationalize the process without God as the initiator. It's just another way of looking at it.
-
Gee, something that happens every second on a nuclear level. Dude, nothing "just happens" whatever level you're on. By the way, are you a nuclear physicist as well as a skydiving instructor?

Uh, you’re right. The Bible doesn’t say the words “Big Bang.” It talks about God creating the “heavens and the Earth.” It’s also not just my personal theory. You’re obviously not listening to what I’m saying Billvon. As I’ve said before, I’m not discounting elements of what you’re talking about. I’m just saying that’s not the “end all be all” of the way it is. We don’t have it all figured out and it should be taught as such. I do believe totally in creation but I am not saying that there aren’t elements of evolution (if that’s what you want to call it) in the process. I’m sorry I’m not as smart as you because you, like many others here, went to Catholic School and was turned against your faith. That’s great…but kids don’t get taught anything but evolution as their basis in the public system.
-
No, you're right! It requires that you postulate a random force that appeared out of nothing to start a process that occurs completely on its own.
-
Again, I'm not saying I know all the answers. I, however, believe that God created and environment for us to exist in which includes what is time and space. I think he can control and use it however he wants. I'm not discounting elements of the evolutionary process or the "young or old" Earth theories. I just believe God is at the foundation and all of these theories build from there. No one knows for sure.

What would push that boulder off the hill in the first place for it to convert its potential to kinetic energy? If the universe eventually collapses in on itself and all that potential energy is built back up, what’s going to initiate the process again if the “force” is now dead? Something’s got to start the engine.
-
Be excellent to each other under God!
-
Please Billvon...try to remain serious without references to genies and the like. I believe the evidence could apply to both theories. Sticking to "The Big Bang", one could think that it was caused by either God or just "some force" that appeared out of no place or time (potential energy as PhillyKev put it in another thread that came out of nowhere). You could describe the development of the universe as either being laid out with purpose and design or just falling into place at random. You could argue that evolution is a random process that just happened or you might think that it is a tool invented by a creator and used for a purpose. Evolution is a “theory.” If you’ve got it solved, you might want to call somebody so they can write you up in a book and give you some money or something. >Let the students take from each and make up his/her own minds. What's wrong with putting the information out and letting intelligent students make up their own minds? I know that goes against the liberal way of thinking.

You're kidding...right?
