  1. Sure. The same old things do tend to come around over and over again. Better check me for accuracy, though. I'm not an expert either. Just hard-headed.
  2. Never underestimate the power and influence of ignorant people in large numbers. Democrats thrive on this.
  3. Arguing with these two in particular is like running around in circles all day long and not accomplishing anything. ”They are darkened in their understanding and separated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them due to the hardening of their hearts.” Ephesians 4:18
  4. A poll on dz.com is not anywhere near an accurate representation of U.S. opinion as a whole on this topic.
  5. Just because Peter was the first chosen of the apostles doesn't make him also the first Pope of the Catholic Church.
  6. I just have to disagree. I have known far too many bums that got that piece of paper with absolutely no work ethic and didn't manage to stay employed long after graduation. Someone with enough intelligence can get through college by never going to class and doing the bare minimum without trying. Mind you, this is in engineering at one of the top 5 colleges in the country, so it isn't SlackU either. My wife got all of her undergraduate college paid for by her Dad. She developed a very strong work ethic despite that it was paid for. She went on to 4 years Medical School, 4 years Residency (which she & I paid for), and is now in private practice. She's the hardest working and determined person I know.
  7. I agree. You earned it. A scholarship of that type is most definitely not "welfare." You studied hard, made the grades, and now you're being rewarded for it with funding for more education. Good job.
  8. Yes. Paid my own way with the G.I. Bill.
  9. I know...it's been posted before...just thought appropriate to the conversation. Fuck
  10. I don't care if you do take offense, really. I don't say anything here I won't say directly to your face. I never "professed ignorance on the subject." I professed that I wasn't an "expert", that I was just offering an opinion, and parts of it, I was “just asking.” I also didn’t “insist” anything. I also never said that “voters aren't required to be competent.” I said that they didn't have to be an expert. That would imply "somewhere in the middle.
  11. They screwed up. They didn't put up the "wedding party" front ahead of time.
  12. Are you proud for having made this statement? Would you want everyone else to act the same way? Don't be a self-righteous "ass." Notice, I didn't say "you are one." I said I'm not an "expert." I'm not completely ill-informed, though. It doesn’t mean I might not have something constructive to add to a conversation. I'm not an "expert" on politics either. I'm still going to vote when the time comes with the best information I have obtained. I'm not arrogant enough, like some here, to claim to be "all knowing" about everything. Yes, I’m ok with that. However, feel free to keep doing whatever makes you feel good and keeps your ego boosted to that level.
  13. Violent crime isn't the only way I would think they'd be a burden on society. My wife has patients come in from time-to-time who are addicted to crack, they have babies, and the State has to take care of some of them.
  14. I don't have to be an "expert" on something in order to cast my vote. I'm just talking here. I don't claim expertise. That's why I said in my quote, "I'm just asking." Take a deep breath.
  15. The bad thing is I don't think it's as simple, in the case of highly addictive drugs, as "go ahead but just don't ask me to pay for it." I think once they're at that level, we're going to pay for it one way or the other. It's pretty much a given that they're going to affect society as a whole and not just themselves. Therefore, I think it's a silly notion to legalize drugs.
  16. Of course proponents of legalizing drugs fall back to the "grey area" of marijuana. I was mostly speaking of more highly addictive drugs but I think pot should be kept outlawed also (that is, unless it's proven to have medicinal value and even then should be controlled). I admit that I'm not an expert on this subject but isn't pot statistically shown to be a "gateway drug?" It may be as every bit as dangerous as alcohol but does alcohol have the same reputation of graduating people to the next level? I realize some of you out there can probably hold your own and it doesn’t affect you that way. I’m just speaking of overall. I don't know. Just asking.
  17. They're stretching pretty far. That's because they've got nothing. Don't stress them out too bad.
  18. Of course, the war on drugs isn’t perfect but you can’t just quit. I’m guessing that there are a whole lot more addicts than suppliers. The focus needs to be on the suppliers. I also don’t really think that legalizing drugs will decrease the overall demand in the long run. Especially when talking about the highly addictive drugs. There will just be more and more new and repeat addicts. Mentally retarded people shouldn’t piss you off. That can’t be helped and they usually didn’t have a choice in the matter. People who stick a needle in their arm did.
  19. Let's just all stay wasted...man. We're all in perfect control of ourselves. It doesn't matter if I'm smoking crack and driving through a playground. If I kill anybody, I didn't mean to. I wasn't in control of myself. It's not my fault. It's society's fault. If only I just had less hassle from the police and some more education concerning the drug I'm pushing into my vein so I'd know how bad it for me.
