  1. Literally laughed aloud when I read this. Excellent.
  2. You are right in the aspect that they can be spontaneous or traumatic. Usually with traumatic you will have an identifiable blunt force injury to the neck, with pain and progression to neurological symptoms over the next hours to days. Spontaneous CD is a bit more difficult diagnosis to make, and requires a good bit of suspicion, as it can present as a headache in the absence of trauma, but may or may not include neurological signs initially. Something as simple as neck manipulation from yoga, chiropractic manipulation can cause a CD, but usually the patient has underlying factors such as a connective tissue disorder / hypertension / arterial plaques. In the end, and as completely unofficial medical banter, the likelyhood of the tandem neck manipulation causing the CD is just as likely a cause as stretching in the morning, looking up for a prolonged period to pain a ceiling, or weakening of the arterial wall being over the age of 50, as this is the most common age of presentation. I would think that an opening shock hard enough to cause a traumatic CD would certainly have other physical ramifications, for both the passenger and the TI. /This in no way constitutes medical advice. Please consult your local physician that has actually examined the patient.
  3. Spending that much money on an engagement ring is plain fucking retarded. I don't care how you justify it.
  4. Oh yeah, I forgot the 0. I have not done that shit in ages.
  5. didn't check it but I got 2x^2 +1/3x + 1/9 Rem: (25x/9) - 5 Real quick and dirty
  6. I've tried that and my gf doesn't buy it. Sucks.
  7. Is this policy in writing where you are going to pay for my main if you lose it on a chop? I am glad you have an agreement like that at your DZ Dave, and I am sure that it works well for you guys. Our DZ usually the staff don;t mind loaning each other rigs if needed and compatible canopies, but they ask first. As far as why the DZO needed it - who fucking cares. It's his rig, he said no. He does not need to provide a reason, and I would be hard pressed for you to find a justification that made it right.
  8. Once you know you are fucked and are going to wreck the dive: a) make sure you don't hurt anyone b) do it so spectacularly that it makes the boogie/ year end video c) say you're sorry, and tell anyone that gets really mad to remember the last time they did it, and hush d) don' make a habit of it
  9. Yet people still expect us to fix them if the do it again, then bitch because it still hurts, or doesn't work right. Yes, we're cautious, but you're right, we have to be.
  10. Short of beating them an inch from their life on landing, I would say no, you probably didn't over-react.
  11. Holy. Shit. Just a demolition.
  12. Reminds me of a bathroom graffito in college. "Trouble with moles? Call Avogadros 602-1023" LOL. I am sorry, but I completely geeked out and laughed when I read that.
  13. Quote6.02 × 10^23 Think lawn pest.[/reply Avogadro's Number.
  14. Calc was simple. Then again, I was a theoretical math major, and didn't really hate Calculus until I got to Real Analysis, which is proving why the theorems in Calculus work. That class was a pain in the ass. I miss doing some of the stuff that I did my thesis in, but my degree/thesis had precisely ZERO real world applications -- other than to get me good grades to get into medical school.
  15. http://www.topgear.com/uk/car-news/bugatti-veyron-crash I don't even know where to start.
  16. Link? All I could find is this: http://www.amador.org/gallery2/v/movies//Wffc%202004%20Canopy%20Accident.mpg But it's clear from that one that the d-bag came out and dragged the PC out of the pouch... -Jon That's it. Not "exactly" the same situation, but it illustrates difficulty in cutting away for someone else and the speed with which it happens once fabric (pc, bag, canopy) hits the wind. Bottom line, get them out of/off of the aircraft before they take it with them.
  17. As someone already mentioned, now you have to worry about the RSL, and you sure as hell dont have time to disconnect it. I'm all for innovation and developing new and better ways to deal and handle emergencies, but when a PC goes out the door it really is a case of Acom's Razor. If a body does not immediately follow that PC, people are going to get hurt or die. Prevention is the key to this, but if it isnt prevented, then there is NO time to think, just react, that's why we teach and train the way we do. Also, watch the wffc video from 2005 I believe where a pilot chute gets loose on climbout and canopy goes over the otter tail...people try grabbing a runaway handle to no avail, and you can see how fast it happens.
  18. Care to explain how I get into this club?
  19. Wow. Don't you feel like an idiot? 725 jumps and you think that is a rear riser turn? Please go find a golf course and donate your gear to a newbie.
