How about the "few" people who died fighting in the civil war. I mean the ones that actually were motivated to fight to end slavery? I know that the actual numbers were low but some did fight for "the cause" shouldn't there familys get some of the money? How about the money that has been spent on AA? Does that get deducted from the bill? It's simple. First ask for a trillion, then billions and "settle" for a lot of millions. Chute didn't open... whuffo remark
mirage62 replied to packerboy's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Heck just read all the post here from people that have "seen" a bounce. I mean "I was there and saw it happen...." kind of statements. "I've lost 47 people skydiving....." statements. What your talking about is not limitied to wffo's. Disclaimer: I am not quoting ANYBODY and am making a general comment. If you have seen 47 people bounce, have 200 jumps and have been in the sport three years..............well stay away from where I jump. aahhh the "blue helmet" sits in my study, the shoes didn't fit and I didn't get the gloves....but other than that the rest of the free stuff was pretty cool. Not to sure how "free" it was See you Wednesday? fr Kevin Keenan is my hero, a double FUP, he does so much with so little

Isn't it funny. I went the same years and had a blast. Both years. The "goodie bag" heck I've never gotten any free stuff that was really wonderful. Kevin Keenan is my hero, a double FUP, he does so much with so little

Warren Buffett put a billion up for a 300 mpg car
mirage62 replied to mirage62's topic in Speakers Corner
So it can't be done now.............. but it could be done with motivation $$ Plus it seems that a lot of people are just positive that Americans won't buy it if it is made. I go back to the VW. It was ugly but people bought them. Kevin Keenan is my hero, a double FUP, he does so much with so little -
LOL - thanks for that comment!!! Bigway Man I don't care what the plane ticket was, if I had THAT much negative energy and worries about coming to an event I'd eat the plane ticket and stay home. I just don't see from reading all these post how you could possibly have a good time. But good luck no matter what. Kevin Keenan is my hero, a double FUP, he does so much with so little

Warren Buffett put a billion up for a 300 mpg car
mirage62 replied to mirage62's topic in Speakers Corner
I nticed that they are going to have the "Smart Car" start selling here (USA) next year. That fit's Bill point (two person car) but if a 1965 VW performance what the "standard" and it got - what- 30 mpg and we improved the gas mileage by just 3% a year till 2006 we'd have our four place reasonable performance car that got 100 mpg. I understand that the motivation hasn't been there to do that (cheap gas) but the VW wasn't fast it wasn't sexy and people bought them - and gas was cheap so there is a market already. Bill seems to truely believe that it's all can be done now....I just believe it could be done with a car that hold four people. If only Warren would return my call Kevin Keenan is my hero, a double FUP, he does so much with so little -

mirage62 replied to mirage62's topic in Speakers Corner
Well the actual idea for this was to motivate someone to design a car that people would purchase. Earlier someone mention the VW, that's a good example of what I was after. It sold, it got got gas mileage it carried four people and it was cheap. I have know idea what the average family size is but mine is five so I need it bigger than you and Amy Kevin Keenan is my hero, a double FUP, he does so much with so little -
John, John, John step away from the chalk dust..... You track to the lowest common denominator -or- to the speed of the slowest tracker. John Appleton (sp?) seem to track up hill and I bet he would have past you easily. (not trying to be insulting you know how good he was) Soooo that would mean that you should have been (always) behind him. My point is that seperation is the issue and I will give you reasonable speed. Besides your just saying this to promote keeping your skinny ass on the outside. Don't worry about it, you'd get to scared to function in the middle love fr Kevin Keenan is my hero, a double FUP, he does so much with so little

Warren Buffett put a billion up for a 300 mpg car
mirage62 replied to mirage62's topic in Speakers Corner
1. Needs to hold four people 2. Needs to cover more than the "average" distance drove in a day. 3. Needs to sell for less than $25,000. 4. I'm from Ga. it got to have a/c. 5. 100 mpg min. 6. It prob needs to run on gas (for now) Most folks can't buy two cars, one to commute with and one to drive when the electric car can't do the job. Ugly but effecent would sale, if the purchase price is right. Come on Bill for a billion help the USA out Now where did I put Buffett's phone number. mirage62 replied to mirage62's topic in Speakers Corner
Bill, I don't know a thing about that car, but I bet there was more to it than it was ugly. Seriously do you think a car that could get "just" a 100 mpg and have the performance of let's say a Honda Civic is possible right now - at $25,000? mirage62 replied to mirage62's topic in Speakers Corner
Okay make the billion payable to the people who come up with a way to produce the car for $25,000. My point is let's get people working on this. I don't buy the idea that we can't do it. Kevin Keenan is my hero, a double FUP, he does so much with so little -
John all b.s. aside I am surprised to read the above. Your a great tracker, but you and I both know better trackers. Many times I have had to slow my track to keep from catching people from behind but because of my errrrr gerth I'm generally a mid-diver. Does that mean I need to move back in the formation or move up to the base? Kevin Keenan is my hero, a double FUP, he does so much with so little

Warren Buffett put a billion up for a 300 mpg car
mirage62 replied to mirage62's topic in Speakers Corner
Just got to thinking, what if Buffett put a billion up for a car that got 300 miles to a gallon, 0-60 in 10 seconds, can hold four adults..... ect, ect. Something like the rocket into space prize a while back. You'd have to really think out the rules, like it can't cost a million bucks each. I know, I know it can't be done - but a billion bucks would motivate a lot of people to work on it. Kevin Keenan is my hero, a double FUP, he does so much with so little -
Okay, I'll bite what does your response have to do with my post??? Oh lol, your being serious!!! Damn your normally so full of troll and bs that I missed that. sorry Kevin Keenan is my hero, a double FUP, he does so much with so little

Bill Leasman, someone I have great respect for said: "When most folks get around a 100 jumps they start thinking they've got it down. The when they hit around 500 they understand they don't have a clue" I was going to be a smart ass and say: When you stop updating your profile jump numbers every weekend you jump (Good thread) Kevin Keenan is my hero, a double FUP, he does so much with so little

anymore news on this? Kevin Keenan is my hero, a double FUP, he does so much with so little -
LOL-okay fellows let's try and get this straight from all sides. I don't agree with what the fellow was doing. But I do see it as "kinda scary" when people judge other people, with just some of the facts. (and very little of these) Spueak your a long time rider, I'm bet you've made a mistake or two on your bike....maybe in your eyes not as bad as this fellow and perhaps you'd be fine with people saying "Squeak was an asshole" on line I wasn't and still aren't. BUT THAT'S ME. Dave told me that I wouldn't change his mind and he won't change mine. I don't know how many of us (skydivers) would be willing to go to this forum with very limited information about a swooping or hook turn accident and make a blanket statement "well he was an asshole" When someone get's killed hooking it affects us all as skydivers. Perhaps it is in a controled enviroment, but it does have an effect. And as I have already said, Dave wins I lose. So I'm the "asshole" in this thread and I now crawl back under my rock.
-
Hey Dave, Yep, I can see your point. I'm trying to explain my point w/o being critical. The fact's as I read them is that this fellow made an mistake, a bad mistake and it cost him his life. But for me - and obviously not you (or others) it didn't seem to cross the "asshole" threshold. From what we k-n-o-w he got into a turn hot and laid it down. He wasn't doing a wheelie, or riding tricks. He was on a public road and he over estimated his skill level. He shouldn't have been going that fast but who of us that rides from time to time doesn't get on it, or into a turn faster than we "should"? Perhaps you never have, I've never road with you. But I would guess that you have. And if I happened on a forum and someone who didn't know you said "he's and asshole" I would be equally upset. See they wouldn't know you or truely if you had earned the "asshole" award. If your comment had been "he was riding like a real asshole" I'd never have taken the time to comment. I haven't meet the swooper who through the learning curve doesn't come close to taking a really good lick - most take several and walk away. Sadly some don't. These people aren't assholes to me they just made a mistake. I beleieve that your biggest problem with this guy was he was on the road and not at a race track-I can see that. Wish he hadn't done it. So in closing, like I said earlier what a great country. We can all have our thoughts. It seems that by a count of replies - you win. A majority of replies agree with you. For myself I'd wait till I had a lot more facts. But that's just me. Be safe and remembr to follow all the posted speed limite signs. my quote "I'm sorry are you saying a hook turn gone bad is normally safe?" Your reply "Show me where I said just that. You can't because its not there, I never said it." I'm sure you saw my question mark, but I was trying to understand your statement. You failed to answer my orginal question. Do call swoopers who are killed "assholes" routinely? That in it's entirety was my basic problem. Heck man for all I know you do, I mean that. You may have the mind set that says "If someone does something dumb that could effect other people they are an asshole" The "asshole" comment seemed a little strong for me and I was drawing a comparison with swooping gone bad. I've been riding for over 20 yrs and jumping for 10. Everyone screws up, I'm hoping that we all are titled "asshole" when we do. But hey, you can call me an asshole for having that view Kevin Keenan is my hero, a double FUP, he does so much with so little
