Unfortunately another clarification of free speech is needed:

Just like your global temperature graphs, eh? Past 4 weeks: -

I guess my opinion. But my logic is, you can't just tack on a feature whose main purpose is to ensure the aircraft's behaviour remains within the exemption you're applying for, and not testing it beforehand. How would the FAA know whether it works or not? The deployed parachute could be the size of a tennis ball and be completely useless. Or, they could have submitted calculations or simulations to the FAA to show that it should work by generating enough drag, etc. But if they did neither, then the FAA would probably reject the application, which they did. -
Yes. But based on this discussion, it looks like there's room for compromise, no? Because right now each side thinks the other side are absolutists. (and well spotted - I should have said "own" rather than "carry")
-
I wouldn't judge him on that though. I'll probably pass those tests now, but there was a time in my life where I would have failed one or two of those. So maybe he could have failed for a while then passed when his life and health was in order. Sad it didn't get to that, though, because those tests hardly exist.

See? I've pretty much just described the process for getting a gun in the UK. Where even the police don't carry guns - but you would theoretically be able to. And where the schoolchildren don't have to practice for active shooter situations. (ok, you wouldn't really like it that much as some kinds of guns are completely banned, but you'd be able to get some guns instead of none at all)
-
I think he would have failed with the road rage incident(s). Then an annual mental health evaluation might have caught whatever it was and gotten him help. The 18 year old who shot up the school might have struggled to pass the first 3 if it was comprehensive enough. And you'd still get to keep your guns.
-
Well I'm starting to gain a bit more respect for you, so I'll apologise for my aggressive posts earlier. But it would be nice if you answered my last question, I do think there's common ground somewhere.
-
If you're willing to do that, then would you be willing to: get 3 character references that show you're of good character get annual professional mental health evaluations get annual inspections of your gun storage, demonstrate competency in handling and maintenance of firearms Plus, you'd even get to keep your guns! If you passed all that, I mean. You'd pass easily, right? Because Billy wouldn't have - and him and his family might still be alive and getting help.
-
Yep.
-
Let's check: Nope, you haven't figured this thing out.
-
People who are thoughtful when they're calm, that can easily go out the window when they're emotional. I know I am, and I'm still trying to improve on that. But I saw a quote recently - when people don't use reason to arrive at a conclusion, you can't use reason to get them out of it.
-
Well look who's assuming now...
-
I'm not assuming, there's already plenty of evidence. And I wasn't asking any questions.
-
Given the complete lack of self awareness in his posts, I am very sure that he won't even get past the first few sentences of your well thought-out question. Guns are legal in the UK. But you need an extensive background check, annual psychiatric evaluations and regular inspections of firearms and their storage locations. But if to someone that's as good as banning them, it's probably because they probably won't pass one or more of those checks. But they won't admit that, will they?
-
No, but you need a license to jump. You need a license to drive. It's insane that you don't for owning a gun.

And more importantly, from the FAA's point of view, was this BRS tested prior to the stunt? If not it would have been grounds for rejecting the waiver, if nwt's argument was valid. -
It's their wrap-all word, but the right is basically saying: "Women and minorities shouldn't ask for equal rights, more consideration, or more representation until we decide to give it to them. Asking for them is initiating, we're just reacting."
-
Also noticed - the concept of climate change, initiated from the left??? This statement makes as much sense as the concept of gravity being initiated from the Church of England.

Says the straight, white male...just defending your right to be on top of the wealth, safety and privilege pyramid, right?

Which they can't even afford to produce. It's such a paper aircraft that India has backed out of acquiring those even before the Russian forces' pitiful performance in Ukraine. And the IRST issue has been around for a while - your linked article is from 2009. With what fab capacity will Russia make those sensors? They only have 1 silicon fab - and those aren't any good at making IR sensors, since they top out at about 1100nm. They'll need InGaAs sensors there, and they've been importing those from France and Germany. While the US MIC has its share of "all talk and no substance" people the problem is far worse in Russia. Interestingly, the article you linked actually lobbies for more funding for the military by bigging up this "infrared gap" similar to how they hyped up the "bomber gap" in the 60s.
-
I haven't tried the VOG or the FDS ones yet, but I was imagining that pulling out your phone in the aircraft to change alarms is easier than removing your helmet, taking out the audible and pressing buttons on it. Could anyone with one of those audibles share their experience?
-
As an aviation fan I was always an admirer of Soviet and Russian aircraft - their looks. They kept focusing their performance on high-AOA tricks which was good for air shows, but I suspected that actual combat had moved away from dogfights given the US's focus on stealth, sensors, and avionics. Same with logistics and communications - it's boring and uninteresting compared to shiny new weapons, but is the main deciding factor in a conflict. I even know a lot of people who are like the Russian military - all talk and show, no substance. So I'm not that surprised they did so badly in Ukraine.
