Hey dude, Too long without reading your words of wisdom... I guess i will have to keep waiting. I can tell that PeacefulJeffrey is not around because you don´t copy paste anymore his long pozts. I wish your posts were a bit longer and they added something to the thread. Oh well... Note: I have intentionally left some words misspelled so you can easily add something to the discussion. You are welcomed.

Agreed, but why do you think ocuppying mainland japan was necesary? To win a war you do not need to either use nukes or a standard occupation, there is other options. My guess is that having lost good part of the air force and the navy their ability to succesfully attack the U.S would be slim. On top of that, you still would have the nukes to use it on any boat that tries to cross the pacific. I very much doubt there would be civilians on a war ship. I think other option weighted heavily on the decision like testing the effects of the nukes in population.

Considering that Japan´s military forces were crippled, I don´t believe that droping two nuclear bombs over civilians was necesary. Now, if the U.S wants to look like the goos guys who err on the side of life, it is necesary to make some excuses up for that deed.

Autopsy: Toddler hit twice by LAPD, Suzie Marie Lopez
Botellines replied to rhino's topic in Speakers Corner
I was being ironic, Rhino always says that unless you have served you have no credibility at all when speaking about military or war, yet he is doing the very same thing here with the SWAT teams. -
Sure it does. I knwo the very sound of the word socialism sounds evil, like comunism, but i asure you that it works fairly well. There is many countries in Europe who work decently and have one form or another of socialism. Socialized medicine basicly means that the money that the shareholder would spend in a private jet if privatized, will be spent in giving you and your family better assitance. Sure it has its problems, and the main problem is how easily abused the system is. But you don´t have to disregard the whole concept because it has some problems. Besides, can you see the drawbacks of capitalism? Socialism is not an Uthopia.

Autopsy: Toddler hit twice by LAPD, Suzie Marie Lopez

They used the wrong gas. Hindsight is always 20/20... By the way, what gas would you recomend to the SWAT teams that would neutralize a guy with a gun (and possibly on drugs) without harming a toddler? A civilian can critizice a soldier. No problem with that, as you seem to be able to critizice the SWAT without belonging to them or being in the situation. -
Our troops are not fighting to establish a religion. What have you been smoking? Maybe not, but boy you will be pissed if after democratic election the country ends up being more extremist than before. What would the U.S do if the new free elected government ends up being Taliban? Would the U.S let run for election a Taliban party? if not, would they be free elections?

Religion, science and personal responsibility.
Botellines replied to AlexCrowley's topic in Speakers Corner
I think that religion is not bad as long as it is seen as a way to reach an end and not the end itself. I mean, if the goal is: "To-be-a-good-man TM" you can reach that goal by being religious and accepting a behavioural code, by having strong morals without believing in anything superior or just by strictingly obeying the law (often not enough). Either one will make you a good man accepted by society, so you choose whatever works for you. However, the religious option can be (and many times is) used to avoid personal responsability by thinking that God itself is on your side. You cannot do that with the other options. Regarding science, as Bill said, it is not exclusive with religion, morals, or law, you need both science and one of the others to grow up as a man. Actually you also need personal responsability, Kudos to whoever combines religion and personal responsability. -
If you buy in the U.S a plane ticket which is not round way, or you pay in cash, or you buy it with very little time ahead, you may be looked upon more closely. I guess there is some behaviours that police consider more suspicious than other. The terrorists may have decided not to take chances. In any cases, those 72 virgins are suppose to be free, they will not be needing the money.

That will only work the first time. I don´t think it would be too complicated to make a bomb that once armed (just before they leave the house), will go off when they stop pressing a button or something similar.
-
I don´t usually think automatically about conspiration neither, and i don´t know all the details about this particular incident. However, when AQ put the bombs in the trains here in Madrid, the first thing the government did was to lie to the public to mislead us and make us think it was ETA, rather than AQ. Which was much more convenient towards the upcoming election. They said it was the same explosive than ETA always use and some other lies like that. The lie was found out before the election and they lost. So i wouldn´t trust the government too much. The only thing is that i don´t see here how lieing would benefit the government anyhow.

Probably not, it is this little thing called morals that kill all the fun. See, I know myself, and in a situation where my life is at risk, and in a fraction of a second i have to decide wether the normal looking guy in frot of me is trying to kill me or not, i am not 100% sure i would take the right option, thus getting killed, or killing the other (innocent or not). Now, i don´t usually carry around guns bigger than my dick, so i am a bit afraid to die, and i know my capabilities. The temptation to shoot to kill just in case would be too great. Therefore making the possibility to kill an innocent go from IF to WHEN. Now, i don´t want to bear on my conscience the guilt of ending with an innocent life, if i have to do it for a greater cause, i will join the army and hope the government know what they are doing, but i would NEVER take that chance with someone else´s life for money. It is just not my style. I don´t want to understand that shit.

It all depends on what the U.S is doing in Irak, if you guys are after the oil, or some shady business, you are right, the situation may not be as bad. However, if you are liberating Irak and trying to win over the population to your cause in order to defeat terrorism, the problem is much worse that what your leader would like to admit. So you think that the situation is well in Iraq? Forget about those pesky civilians that always seem to block the bullets with their heads, think about how many american have died, and how many have lost limbs (and therefore are going to be a financial load on the system) since the beggining? And for what? supposing there was a plan before starting the war, how much of that plan do you think it has been acomplished?

I think that a good justice system is the one that gives proportionate sentences to the crime done and only the crime is looked upon, not who commited. Or at least in the who did what, what counts much much more than the who. Because if it had been an insurgent giving the "coup the grace" to a wounded american, he would have gotten a bullet in his head rather than just 3 years. That is specially bad considering that you guys are in Irak, which does not belong to the U.S. But the problem is not what i think, but what the Iraki population thinks about it (which is the same than me) You don´t need me to agree with you, but you need the Iraqui populations to agree with you and like you a bit if you don´t want to consider this whole adventure a total failure when you guys pull out.
-
So, let me ask you, do you think that it is alright he only got 4 years? Are you excusing with those news the U.S justice system? What is your point that the U.S Justice system is as good as Indonesia? You may get that warm fuzzy feeling thinking that your country´s justice system is a bit better than indonesia´s, but that is not enough to me, specially if you are going to tell everybody how good justice is in the U.S.
-
It is not easy to define terrorism without including Israel and the U.S in the lists. You know, that silly thing about bombing civilians in Iraq and selective murders in Palestina. Just give them time, they will come out with some what-ifs that will make Israel and U.S look like the good guys. By the way, why do you guys protest so much about not enforcing resolutions? I mean, how many resolutions have Israel broke? You surely don´t want to enforce those resolutions, do you?
-
We never have ALL the information. And if we start playing what-ifs, no one is guilty of anything. The fact is that no american soldiers have been severely or even moderately punished for any misbehaviour. Probably due to those continous what ifs that allows to ditch responsability. The joke is that there is still people who thinks that justice is being done.
-
Exactly, if your contract is, lets say, as a cook in a military base, then i see no problem. But if part of your contract is about being around civilians when you know that terrorists disguised as civilians are around, the chances that you kill a civilian skyrocket. I don´t understand how anyone would want to put himselve in a position where making the mistake of killing a civilian is a very real posibility just for money. Specially if that anyone is of the "I prefer to be judge by 12 than carried by 6" mentality.

A soldier who admitted executing a wounded Iraqi teenager received three years in prison Prosecutors said one man drowned after Army soldiers forced him into the Tigris River as punishment for breaking a curfew. The lieutenant who allegedly ordered the action received 45 days on an assault conviction A prisoner died after being dragged out of his holding cell by the neck, stripped naked and left outside for seven hours. The Marine major who commanded the facility was convicted of dereliction of duty and maltreatment and dismissed from the service. Do you still say that the U.S values life, or err on the side of life? What a joke. Juanesky, where are you know? Do you still defend the justice system?

Same treatment as if the deceased was an american citizen. No more, no less, and no double standard. Do you think it is unfair We all whine, you know. I whine for human rigths and some others will whine when the gallon of gas double its actual price.

Lisamariewillbe - banned in 5,4,3,2 Juanesky - one warning. will you guys knock it off and save this thread for being locked. Thank you.

I suggest you read the whole posts before answering, you don´t want people to think that you read as well as your president. Do you work at the airport? Edited to ask if you would call Darius dumbass face to face.
-
I have posted before a question to Juanesky but he was unable to answer, i hope you can. Do you know what has been the harshest sentence for a crime or mistake commited by an american citizen in Iraq? Unless someone proves me wrong, american citizens are not being held accountable enough or even at all for their crimes against innocent Iraquis.

My texas friend john, the only relevant link to the discussion at hand is the "unarmed UK cops tactics" one. Which is a forum with participants as "urban jedi", "Glass cow", "water boy" and "Sgt Lobster". Hardly a credible source. Not saying that what Mr Lobster has to say is not interesting, but you cannot believe everything you read on the net, can you? When you learn to debate.

Let me add to your question, Is it okay to put yourself in a position where you VERY WELL MAY end up killing an innocent for money? My answer is NO WAY! Even if in the mercenary contract it doesn´t say anything about killing, that is what it will most likely happen, hence the guns. Edited to clarify
