I do think the environment important and that many environmental concerns need to be addressed at the international, national, state, and local levels. However, Kyoto was flawed beyond repair and everyone knew it. GWB took the hit on it politically, but only because the left was able to capitalize on the ignorance of their supporters. Perhaps the recent interest in biofuels in conjunction with rising gasoline prices will yield something useful along environmental lines.

I didn't even know Romney was Mormon. Hard for me to believe that a Mormon has no shot at the big prize. Mormons have a lot in common with other Christians and I believe his beliefs will contrast with whomever the left decides to nominate on issues that resonate with folks whose religious beliefs are the dominant factor in determining for whom they cast their vote. I think the GOP candidate in '08 could be McCain, but it could be somebody else as well. Perhaps Romney, Rice, Allard, or someone else. We shall see.

I'm interested to see what happens with this health care system he's concocted. It does have potential. I think it a solution at the state and not federal level, obviously, but something that should be watched by all. The effect of getting a larger chunk of the eligible populace enrolled in medicaid will not be insubstantial, I do believe. Romney will be an interesting candidate when he runs - and I do believe that he will. If he gets on the ticket, it will force the Dems to spend more time in New England than they otherwise would have to do. Not good for them. I see no chance of the lefties losing CA, but Romney's New England residency gives the GOP a fighting chance up there. I honestly don't know the man's policies and opinions on many issues, so anything else I would say on the subject would be baseless conjecture. It IS of note that a Republican Gov exists in the state that elected legendary swimmer Ted Kennedy and John Kerry. If Romney truly is a conservative leaning fellow, it would make him a most formidable candidate for the presidency. I think it will be more than 3 million. The US economy is another animal altogether with different problems. The young people in France have an unemployment rate of about 22% and were protesting against a bill that would have generated jobs for them. French-tards sounds like a good Anvil-ism to describe the protestors. Much more polite than 'fucking idiots' which would be equally apropos. Between their immigration policies, 35 hour work weeks, and job protections the French economy is looking a bit bleak. That being said, the do produce some fine companies, scientists, products, and people. And some damned good wine too. Tequila is made in Jalasco, Mexico, however, and they have nothing close to it. The US economy is booming right now - not that the media would ever report on that with Bush in office - but we've got some major trouble on the horizon. Given the age demographics of the current populace and the structure of our entitlement programs, our deficit is going to explode over the next twenty to thirty years. The debt ceiling raise we just saw is going to be nothing compared to what will be required in the not so distant future. It bothers me that neither political party in the U.S. is showing any serious concern over this impending disaster. He's resigned, and will possibly be convicted. Possibly not. Given the fact that the prosecutor had to shop for a grand jury, I find his impending conviction questionable at best. I think his departure a good thing for the Republican party overall. I don't recall ever seeing anything about his entire staff pleading guilty to anything - perhaps you have a link of sorts. The House of Representatives hasn't made a good showing of itself as of late. Look at Cynthia McKinney, who is not going to resign. I don't find her conviction questionable if charges are indeed brought against her. Could be a great month for weeding out House members. I wonder who is next? Abramoff's trial will most assuredly catch a few more people before its completion.
