  1. If you know this person personally I'd suggest you explain to him a few basics on civics - who controls the purse strings, who writes the budget, what the definition of 'cut' is, and a few other basic things about how our government works. Then the next time he writes a letter, it won't sound as ridiculous as this one. As hate filled, probably, but not as ridiculous. Once you weed through all of the nonsense, he actually makes some OK points. Vinny the Anvil Post Traumatic Didn't Make The Lakers Syndrome is REAL JACKASS POWER!!!!!!

  4. BillVon I could smear Weasley Clark on his own statements and proposed policies easily enough, should I choose to do so. He's making enough of a fool of himself without my assistance. I consider myself a southerner and do not like the fact that bigotry against Southerners - and Christians too - seems to be the last acceptable prejudice among many on the left. I think I posted on this topic in some thread a few months back. He obviously meant this as a joke - I don't think it all that funny, but DO think it indicative of a subtle prejudice prevalent among educated lefties. Zell Miller apparently thinks the same thing - from what I can infer from his recent interviews; his book has yet to arrive in my paws. PhillyKev & BillVon too

Hello Speed. A valid question. I agree with Jimbo, but would like to add that I am extremely worried about our intelligence infrastructure. Something is obviously amiss. To answer your question, my trust level hasn't diminished in the man himself, rather it is diminished in the product our intelligence agencies are producing. 6. LOL. Turtle, you're a genius. Perhaps I should give the guy a break. After all, it's not like he's TRENT LOTT or anything! I encourage all lefties to compare and contrast Clark's remark with those made by Trent Lott at Strom Thurmond's b-day party. 7. The differences are amazing. - This committee's purpose requires it to be free of partisan wrangling. That's why you don't see any fire-brands on there. Dianne Feinstein is the most vocal of the committee I'd say and as much as I detest her politics, she is not a flame spewer. - The Whitewater investigation was initiated by Clinton himself in '94. Ken Starr was completing an investigation started by Bob Fiske the previous year. Given the outcome of the RTC investigaion and all of the criminal activity associated with Whitewater and Madison Guaranty, I'm not exactly sure why some believe this investigation unwarranted. Though, admittedly, this would be one of the lesser of Clinton's crimes. '94 is not an election year - this investigation was not triggered at a predetermined time for partisan gain - unlike the one planned in the memo. There are others, but those are two of the first that pop into my head. Completely different scenarios. Vinny the Anvil Post Traumatic Didn't Make The Lakers Syndrome is REAL JACKASS POWER!!!!!!
  8. This guy is a hero - no question. Bob Barr had some interesting commentary on the situation on O'Reilly last night that sort of made sense, however. He was of the opinion this entire court martial deal is a show and that he'll be acquitted. Vinny the Anvil Post Traumatic Didn't Make The Lakers Syndrome is REAL JACKASS POWER!!!!!!
  9. One more reason I loathe the democrats. Aside from condoning and promoting racial prejudice, they seem to be prejudiced against Southerners as well. Didn't hear much about this from the major media - no suprise there. Check out Weasley Clark's thoughts on the South and its denizens. If he had said he wanted all Americans to be represented, even if they're criminals from the inner city, he would be lynched by his fellow democrats - and rightly so. For them it's OK to insult anyone from the South, obviously. Disgusting. Then again, that's why the left won't carry Southern states. Perhaps their bigotry is a good thing in a way. http://www.nydailynews.com/news/gossip/story/135064p-120343c.html Vinny the Anvil Post Traumatic Didn't Make The Lakers Syndrome is REAL JACKASS POWER!!!!!!
  10. If the majority were limiting the scope of investigation then the minority would have solid leads identified that the majority didn't want to pursue - they don't. As the memo states, the chairman has authorized their requests for information, co-signing them in fact. I just don't buy this timing of the independent investigation not being a completely partisan act. Yes, the memo doesn't openly state it as such, but everyone in D.C. knows what's going on next year and, as the memo mentions, they are worried about public opinions concerning their actions. If this were a non-partisan memo that would not be the case. Due to the gravity of its work, these shennanigans have no place around this committee. Ever. 12. I disagree again Bill. The opening paragraph indicates the topic of this memo is not intelligence failures, rather it is concerning 'improper or questionable conduct of administration officials'. Granted, any such conduct is despicable and SHOULD be disclosed to the public. Were that the only hint of partisanship herein, I wouldn't make that much of it. However, they admit that they 'don't know what' they will find in para1, state their intent to castigate the majority in para2, and then in para3b they admit again that they haven't identified any solid leads that the majority does not want to pursue. Paras 1 & 2 indicate the direction of their investigative efforts will be on partisan attacks on the administration vice focusing on intelligence failures. Para 3 shows they already plan to launch an independent investigation regardless of the investigations outcome. Paras 3a&b simply give the pro's and con's of doing so at a particular time under a particular set of circumstances. This has no place in this committee. I agree that dissenting opinions always have a place in a committee's report and believe them an important part of our judiciary system. That being said, this committee is special and this memo - in my view -clearly states an intent to use it as a launch pad for a partisan attack in a presidential election year. I also agree that the investigation it is currently undertaking IS important. That makes the memo of discussion even more despicable to me. Should misuse of intelligence info be investigated - absolutely. If it was deliberately misused, there should be consequences most severe. That should fall under the purvey of this committee and be a part of the investigation - but not its focus. From all appearances intelligence failures - both collection and management - seem to be at fault here and should be the primary focus. 13. It lives (the thread). I disagree in part. Check out the first sentence in Para1 and Para3 in its entirety. Add to that that every single person in America with a three digit IQ realizes there's a presidential election in '04, and you've got a really damning memo here. 'Pulling along' and 'castigating' the majority are not used in bipartisan writing, regardless of context. Vinny the Anvil Post Traumatic Didn't Make The Lakers Syndrome is REAL JACKASS POWER!!!!!!

That's how it often tends to be. My brother mentioned something to me that I found very profound - probably because I hadn't thought about things from that perspective before. He said that of all the areas with which an elected president must contend, Foreign Policy is the one area where he has the most autonomy. Congress and the states will affect the domestic agenda drastically because they control the purse strings. True, the power of the Executive Order lets the president have limited powers domestically in certain aspects, but I think my brother was onto something. He was saying that he looks at how a candidate would handle foreign policy more than anything else, though he certainly looks at any candidate as whole. I thought that quite interesting. Even opposed as I am to some of the things Bush has done from that perspective, I still find no candidate among the Naive Nine who presents a plan I would like better - those few who present any plans at all. Add to that my utter contempt for their racially discriminatory programs, their desire to raise my taxes, and their apparent distaste for the concept of personaly responsibility, and I cannot fathom voting for any of them. 17. In the past week I've agreed with both Wendy and BillVon. I now understand this cold stint - it's not winter, it's HELL FREEZING OVER. I agree with you about the character part, though I think everyone here is chiding in good fun. You should see some of the people I work with when you disagree with them - ugh! Anyway, check out Ann Coulter's column about the mainstream - it's in France! Neither you nor I nor anyone else here in the forums know if Saddam had anything to hide or not. Perhaps he didn't - that is a possibility. The election in '04 will be a tight one, but once folks actually start to pay attention to whomever emerges from the Naive Nine, you'll see those #'s swing back into Bush's favor. I've been paying attention to what they say and stand for - I'm not impressed. Vinny the Anvil Post Traumatic Didn't Make The Lakers Syndrome is REAL JACKASS POWER!!!!!!

  21. Good question. I'm an admitted hypocritical libertarian, so perhaps I'm a bad one to ask. My remark was aimed at the notorious libertarian habit of always having the guts to state our opinions and the basis upon which we found them - even when our opinions are unpopular. I gained respect for those senators who stayed and gave their opinions publicly - even everyone's favorite Klansman - and lost respect for all of those who didn't (except for some, for whom I held no respect anyway). I would have voted yes for quite a few reasons, though certainly I think the bill is flawed. but think that pure libertarians would be split on the issue at hand - grants vs loans. Libertarians - most of us I believe - would support the portion of the bill aimed at sustaining the sailors/airmen/troops we have over there. However, the grant portion of the bill probably has pure libertarians screaming bloody murder - that's where the argument in the libertarian party lies. The grants tick me off to an extent, but part of me realizes that getting the new gov't off to a new start is going to take some capital, much/most of which cannot be paid back and I think many libertarians realize that as well. I think Finland is the only nation that ever repaid the US for Marshall plan money - trivia; think I read that somewhere. My 2 cents. I haven't been to the party's national homepage in a long long time. Perhaps they have something posted there. What do you think, Bill? On a tangent issue, does anyone know what has become of the pre-war debts owed by the Iraqi government? Should the US replacement government NOT honor them then I think that puts us in a really tough to defend position on the international stage, given our staunch opposition to the forgiveness of massive third world debt.
