They simultaneosly take students out of failing schools and place them in other public schools/private schools while reducing the student:teacher ratio in the failing schools. Both the voucher receiving and non-voucher receiving students benefit, though granted the kid that goes to the private school is getting the better deal. Imperfect solution, but better than throwing $$ ad infinitum at a failed one. Here....you didn't bother to cut and paste my last intro for you - for deep rooted psychological reasons I'm sure. I think it's interesting to note that Mr. Musgrove is a really conservative democrat. He's a supporter of Judge Charles Pickering for elevation to the appellate bench and earned the ire of the NAACP for allowing MS citizens to vote on the confederate flag issue with regards to the state flag. He was not a bad democrat, as far as dem's go. As a native Kentuckian, I can tell you that ANY Chandler losing a hotly contested state-wide race is amazing. Mr. Chandler's father is a legend in KY. Few people - even young'uns() wouldn't recognize the name Happy Chandler. Most older Kentuckians would be hard pressed NOT to name two or three great things the man did for the state. Happy Chandler was a great man held in high esteem by 99.9% of the state's populace. Add to this the fact that KY hasn't had a Republican governor since before I was born, and you get a feel for the momentousness of this election for KY. Especially the state Republican party. As Zell Miller pointed out recently, any of the major heavies the left could have sent to MS would have doomed Musgrove to failure. They have all crucified Judge Pickering, who is WILDLY popular in the state. They have positions contrare to Mr. Musgrove on the confederate flag issue and a myriad of different things. Just a few remarks on the election. I don't think that any democratic candidate could have taken either state in '04 for the presidency regardless of their outcome. I read both the article and your post. You should do the same. Let me expound a bit. The Senate Intelligence Committee is very unique in a couple of respects - #1) its members DO have higher clearances than other senators, though prephekt is correct to a certain extent. #2) due to the gravity of the responsibilities intrinsic to its chartered purpose, there is no room for partisan bullshit therein. That's why you don't often see its members spouting partisan rhetoric when discussing committee-type business. I can't really recall the last one I saw do such a thing to be honest - if ever. For this memo to have even been a draft is disgusting, because it shows that the tactic has been contemplated seriously. If it hasn't been contemplated - why the draft? Why the clear intent in the draft? Party strategy of that magnitude is not low-level staffer stuff, like it or not. It is both unethical and possibly criminal. Deliberately conspiring to do a half-assed job on your current project so you can demand an independent repeat of your work later? Give me a break. This is sickening. But along the lines of my Anvil tangent, I STILL think that way too many people are going to college and that the value of the bachelor's degree has been lessened as a result. In technical fields - not so much, but look at some of the degrees offered around the country - even at my beloved GaTech now - and you'll see what I mean. I've been at collegiate job fairs and was utterly AMAZED at the degrees some people had earned. I think a true weak point in the economy is the massive debt some of these folks rack up without job skills that command a salary necessary to pay off those loans. Add credit card debt and car loans and white collar lifestyle spending and look what you have - an indebted person with high likelihood of being laid off with no chance in HELL of paying off anything. Same goes for those let into schools under reduced standards for AA. Big loans with little in the way of job skills - for the most part. Go Jackets! Every Democrat on that committee is now suspect of not giving 100% effort to doing their job in the current investigation. Every single one. And for the record, the guy that released Mrs. Wilson nee Plame's name as a CIA operative should have his/her clearance pulled as well. They should throw up the potential cost of this politically motivated independent investigation the next time 'deficit spending' comes up. Unemployment has always been the lagging indicator. Odd that those screaming about unemployment are those least concerned about illegal immigration. What do those illegal immigrants do when the cross the border? They work. And damned hard too. They take jobs that many think they are 'too good for'. Also odd that those screaming about unemployment are the ones in the hip pockets of the unions. Unions INCREASE labor costs, ie. make it profitable to send the jobs overseas. Extremely odd that those screaming about unemployment don't point out to their constituents that historically, unemployment has been the lagging indicator with regards to economic recovery. An Anvil tangent: I think that we've got ourselves an artificial class of sorts here in America - as a result of greed mainly. Those who desire a nice white collar lifestyle, have gone to college and incurred enormous debt and now have no job skills whatsoever. They're 'too good' to work a service/factory job or work in the fields (at least in their own minds they're too good) but not capable of contributing to the corporate bottom line. This class is the result of greed on the part of colleges - letting people in and inventing majors for them so they won't flunk out and giving them degrees in fields that mean nothing, thereby reducing the meaning of a bachelor's degree in the process.
