  2. PK is right - those caverns kickass. Don't miss the Painted Desert either on the way to the grand canyon. Right by that petrified forest. Good stuff. Vinny the Anvil Post Traumatic Didn't Make The Lakers Syndrome is REAL JACKASS POWER!!!!!!
  3. 'Defund' and 'reduce funding' have two different meanings. 'Defund' means zero'ing out that line item in the budget. 'Reduce funding' means reducing the amount of the line item. The NEA's quest for better student teacher ratios is furthered by vouchers, by the way, in a far cheaper manner than hiring more teachers - which is what they want; more $$ for union coffers to fund the Dems - and building more classrooms. If you'd also look at total infrastructure costs per student you'd find vouchers a fiscally responsible alternative. Vouchers do nothing but help the students that get them. Hard to claim to be for poor kids while locking them in schools that cannot be reformed in the near term. Vinny the Anvil Post Traumatic Didn't Make The Lakers Syndrome is REAL JACKASS POWER!!!!!!

  5. Wellwell. You caught me in a tired moment. Salud. Not that I'm not tired now. I was referring to the magnitude of the 'surplus' value in Kallend's inane state vector. In the case you point out it would obviously be a negative value, with an increased magnitude. And I assure you I've read far more books than you on economics, politics, foreign policy, spacecraft control, optimization, the search for Atlantis, moon rocks, and mating habits of the Brazilian horny-toad. You point out a factor not in Kallend's state vector that also plays a role: interest rates. One of many other factors that do play into the health of the economy.
  6. [Time; Revenues; Expenditures; Surplus]. Dear Lord you've condensed the economy into a four element state vector. When do you accept your Nobel? Y'all are giving me a chuckle this evening. Lord knows I need one right now, I'm ticked the hell off for a myriad of reasons. Revenues being a single-variable function of tax rate. LOL. Holy shyte. Now that's funny. Tax rate does have a large effect on it, though, so at least it's on the right track. I'd actually like to read a book on mathematical modelling of the economy. It would be pretty interesting stuff, truth be told. My buddy did some post MBA work at U-Chicago in statistical modelling and what he talked about was fascinating. They even did some Ricatti equations and optimization work. Really cool shyte. Need to snag a book rec. from him. Anyhoo, I digress. I need some tequila. Revenues have gone down. When the economy is in recession and you increase spending, expect your surplus to increase even if you maintain your tax rates at a constant level. With a tax decrease in there, expect the aforementioned delta to increase until the recession turns well around. Other factors play in, but those are very germane. 7. Asinine by any standard. This paradigm under which you seem to be operating is flawed on many levels. Vouchers programs do not mean defunding public schools. They entail providing funds for parents who wish to remove their children to send them to private schools. The public school remains open - with better teacher student ratio. Funding school + religious school = choice. (Republicans - the REAL pro-choice party!) The insinuation that religous schools push their particular religion on students is just fear-mongering. No truth in that whatsoever. Public schools will not go away under vouchers programs. If you'd look at the funding, you'd be surprised at what you would find when vouchers programs are implemented. The real reason behind the massive resistance to vouchers is quite easy to discern. Those who would benefit the most from vouchers - poor inner city minorities - vote predominanty dem. Now children who attend private schools tend to become quite successful in comparison to their public school brethren. Children in all schools tend to hang out with the other kids with whom they go to school. Let's paint a nice scenario here - one that would put fear deep, deep in the hearts of the Johns running for Prez. John and Kenny both go to a private school. John - inner city black kid - spends the afternoon with his friend Kenny, who lives in the suburbs. John's mom comes to pick him up at 8 in the evening and see's Kenny's Dad just coming home from work, looking exhausted. She asks him if he normally gets home this late, and he tells her this is normal for him. She asks when he leaves for work and he says 5:30 AM. He invites her in for a drink. John's Mom discovers that Kenny's Mom also works. They all become friends. When election time rolls around, she hears her new friends complaining about how Dems want to take more of their hard earned money. John's mom tells her neighbors about how her hard working friends in the suburbs, who have been so nice to her and Kenny and treated them like family, will get screwed by Dem tax increases. John spends time with his old friends in the inner city and tells them the same thing his mom told her friends. When Je$$e Jack$on and Al $harpton come to town vilifying the evil rich white man, how much of an effect will their bullshit have on John's mom? On those she speaks with? A much reduced effect, I assure you. When John grows up and becomes successful and makes a whole lot of money because he ceased to identify himself by his race and learned that education + effort = success from his private school experience, he's not likely to buy into the victimology bullshit of the democratic party. It's likely to piss him off and make him an ardent opponent of it. When John speaks out and his friends from his neighborhood hear him, how much effect will $harpton/Jack$on rhetoric have on them. Decreased effect, I assure you once again. That's the real reason behind vouchers - one of several. Their success would weaken the Dem's monopoly on one of their major voting bases. There are other reasons - NEA just HATES competition, especially when it reguarly shows them up - but a scenario like I've described above is what I believe the dem strategists truly fear, hence their opposition to vouchers. 8. Spending causes deficits, not tax cuts. GWB has betrayed fiscal conservatism which is why a lot of us conservative types are not giving him high marks, but will vote for him anyway because sKerry is...well...scary. WRT Mr. Buffett, you know better. The average US$200K + person isn't Mr. Buffett. They're a small business person, an entrepeneur, Junior VP - that sort of person. They hire people. They invest. They buy goods. Cheerios, perhaps not. Boats, filet mignon, fois gras, automobiles, vacations, disneyworld passes, etc - absolutely. And how do you think firms generate capital to expand/pay employees/do R&D/etc? One way is - they issue stock, which investors, such as Mr. Buffett, subsequently BUY with the money they don't send to the imperial federal government. The jealousy to which I referred is the exact jealousy that the DNC hopes to feed with their incessant class warfare rhetoric. Jealousy of the more successful - the rich. Most millionaires don't inherit their wealth - they build it themselves through hard work. The 'tax cuts for the rich' - who pay most of the taxes - mantra does nothing but feed on this jealousy. I personally find it disgusting. Beers to all, Vinny the Anvil
  9. Why would vouchers for parochial schools piss off anyone? Vouchers put the choice in the hand of the parent, where it belongs. If the parent wants their child going to a parochial school rather than a failing public one that is THEIR choice and rightfully so. Vouchers are a NOW solution for many children. Any reform of the public schools is a far-term solution. I don't think the public school system CAN be reformed as long as the NEA remains a powerful lobbying force. If the vouchers could be used at religious and non-religious schools of the parents' choice, there's no problem in my book. 17. You don't get it. When Nietzche said that convictions are the worst enemy of truth, he could not have envisioned a more apropos forum to prove this hypothesis correct than American political discourse. YOU got a tax cut. Why do you CARE what somebody else's tax cut was? YOU got one. The tax cut was not designed to benefit the rich - it was designed to stimulate the economy. By letting those who pay the most taxes keep more of the money they earned, the economy was stimulated. If you're jealous of their success, seek to emulate it. 18. The need for AA is possibly up for discussion, however, it is a fact that AA is racial discrimination. I'd re-check those top five. When you take into account AFL-CIO's donation of paid personnel time and actual $ donated it's by far and away the largest. 19. I prefer none to sKerry's plan[sic] of appeasement and UN pandering. Between that and his moronic economic plan with regards to multi-national corporations it's no wonder foreign leaders might want to support him. They might disagree. If so, I'd be interested in hearing what they have to say in a more substantive manner than they have as of yet.

  21. Interesting group they've assembled. Many served under Reagan. Regardless of my views on the election, anytime someone who has held the positions these fellas have it's a good idea to listen to what they've got to say. Hard to be a completely inept buffoon and be an ambassador, though I'm sure a few folks manage to do it. I've met a couple of ambassadors and they've all impressed the hell out of me. That being said, they disappoint me - especially those who served in the military. Given Kerry's foriegn policy plan one wonders if they've actually read it.

  23. So what? The top one percent pay about 20% (I'd say a bit more) of the total tax burden. If they got the biggest tax break, good for them. Who cares? The tax bill wasn't designed to cut taxes based upon percentage of taxes paid by any one segment of the populace - nor should it have been. Who give's a horny-toad's ass? I'll answer my own question. The class warfare strategists at the DNC care, because they know they can work this statistic into Flipper's speeches. They love to malign the successful in order to garner support. 'The more successful got a bigger tax break than you!' mantra will resonate with a large number of simpletons who will become more inclined to vote for sKerry because of it. However, if the same simpletons would ask themselves - how would increasing the taxes on the rich help me out? - I don't think Flipper's future speeches will have as profound an effect. The GOP should start countering this inane class warfare in a more aggressive manner. Vinny the Anvil Vinny the Anvil Post Traumatic Didn't Make The Lakers Syndrome is REAL JACKASS POWER!!!!!!
  24. sKerry made a speech on the senate floor reminiscing about being in Cambodia for Christmas. He wasn't. A few gems from his website: "As president, John Kerry will pass tax cuts that benefit all Americans, not just the very wealthy." Sorry lying liberal. The wealthy weren't the only ones to get a tax cut. Damned near everyone did. Including the wealthy, who pay most of the taxes. "support affirmative action to reduce discrimination" Try again lying liberal. Race based affirmative action is racial discrimination. Support of it INCREASES the frequency of its occurrence. John Kerry will roll back only Bush's tax cuts for those making over $200,000 a year, and invest those resources in affordable health care and better schools. Specifically, the Kerry-Edwards plan will: - Provide an immediate tax break for small businesses and family farms by raising the estate tax exemption to $4 million per couple and $10 million per couple for a family-owned business or farm. The estate tax would be maintained for the largest estates. - Restore the top two tax brackets to their levels under President Clinton. Anybody wonder why we call him Flipper? The top two tax brackets aren't just for folks making over US$200,000 - oooooh no. Once again he lied. This dude can't be trusted. At all. Given his primary source of $$, Jack Sweeney and the AFL-CIO, his loyalties lie with socialism, which means he gets no support from me. There are a few. I'm sure I can find more but I'm tired right now.
