Hmmm...sorry to hear that...let me think...some good things... In all likelihood you won't have to see that ugly JACKASS Vinny the Anvil if you stay away from dropzones. You can catch up on your reading and practice your yodelling skills. Perhaps you'll get a hot filthy rich chick-magnet physical therapist who falls madly in love with you. Hope you heal well. Ditto. Vinny the Anvil on a sub-100 ft^2 main? Nooooooooooo way. I'll remain a sexy but weak-swoopin' JACKASS. My legs are stubby enough as is - they have enough problems. Vinny the Anvil Post Traumatic Didn't Make The Lakers Syndrome is REAL JACKASS POWER!!!!!!

I agree with Dick Morris. That's exactly what I want to occur.
-
Don't recall where I've stated that in this thread. Perhaps you can point that out to me. care to do the compare and contrast I put forth earlier? And I'm a hypocritical libertarian, by the way. I doubt my desire to legalize drugs would go over well with most Republicans. Vinny the Anvil Post Traumatic Didn't Make The Lakers Syndrome is REAL JACKASS POWER!!!!!!

I know about Abe Fortas, but thanks for the refresher. A bit skewed, but a refresher nonetheless. Note the Fortas nomination was withdrawn. Unlike the extremely well qualified candidates being refused a floor vote at present.
-
No. They never filibustered, merely threatened to do so. I'm sure they would have embarrassed the hell out of themselves had they actually filibustered. Senator Frist's vote didn't embarass the GOP at all.

Check your facts. Let the Dims filibuster and make fools of themselves. While they grind senate business to a crawl, the conservatives will showcase the nominees they are screeching about and show the lies and distortions used to malign them, further embarrassing the Dims. Skew the #'s because the total amount is too low? LoL. 17 out of 50 some odd then by the #'s you present. A large portion regardless of how you examine it. You know the nominees were bad and that's the reason they were not renominated? I think not. Some were not renominated by their own request. El Jefe Clintonista was under threat of filibuster, not a filibuster itself. I hope the Dims filibuster, as I said before. It will be a great thing. Your case loading model assumes a constant work-load. Though I've never examined it myself, I suspect that assumption isn't a good one.

200 years, eh Bill? Please tell us the names of a few judges who have been filibustered. Your assertion that GWB's rate is 'considerably higher' for overall judge confirmations really doesn't give a good overall picture of how confirmations are going. Break the stat down into Appellate and Lower court nominations, show the raw data for # of judges nominated, and the like and you'll find that some gross disparaties exist. One nice little factoid you'll notice - should you choose to do as I've suggested - is that GWB has the LOWEST confirmation rate for appellate court nominees of ANY PRESIDENT SINCE WWII!!!!!! We're not talking by one or two percentage points here either - we're talking like 30+% less than other presidents. This filibuster is a good thing. Makes fools of the Dims and gets these well qualified judges an up or down vote in the end, which is all the Republicans wanted. They should have started this long ago.
-
You are using the overall #'s. I am referring to APPELLATE court nominees. I believe the actual # I read was 53% - don't recall where I read that though, so perhaps I'm in error. I believe if you include the lower court nominees the overall % should be in the high 90%'s.
-
Both. Apparently the Dims didn't feel as strongly about gay rights as GOPers feel about getting qualified judges onto the appellate bench. 60 of El Jefe Clintonista's nominees were never voted upon. If the Dims chose to tolerate that - that's their choice. The GOP has chosen not to tolerate a mid 50's % of GWB's appellate court nominees getting an floor vote on the senate and decided to do something about it. Good for them.
-
If the Dims felt as strongly about the ambassadorship as they Republicans do about these judges, they would have forced the issue as well. Again, then it was the THREAT of a filibuster and not a filibuster, though in truth there is little difference. I remain happy that the republicans are forcing the issue and making the Dims look like morons. I heard Harry Reid speak yesterday afternoon and the lies coming out of his mouth were sickening. Keep it up Dims! Just a little early for the '06 campaign season. What a way to kick it off for the Republican Party!

have considered it, actually. When I was travelling through Guatemala prior to coming here to Jax I met a lot of people who had been travelling for over a year. They had just quite their jobs, sold everything, and taken a couple of years off of life. None of them regretted it.

Threat of filibuster. Not a filibuster. And yes, it was dumb then and now. Compare and contrast the reasons for opposition if you like. Remember Abe Fortis from waaaay back when as well?
-
Not quite destitute (yet) - just dumb. Does that give me a DMF#? Ha! I'm somebody's FAVORITE anvil! And some folks said I'd never amount to anything but a tequila guzzling lawn gnome.... Vinny the Anvil Post Traumatic Didn't Make The Lakers Syndrome is REAL JACKASS POWER!!!!!!

My oh so congenial boss had a 'Come to Jesus meeting' with me a few weeks ago. He said that as the meeting started, then said 'and I'm Jesus you short fuck!' I quickly responded that if he was Jesus then I'd like to stick around after the meeting for the crucifiction. The ass-chewing was worth the look on his face. Good luck Kel! I know you'll do well wherever you go.

Slave reparations my ass. Now reparations from the NBA to all short people - THOSE are reparations that are truly fair and needed. Vinny the Anvil Post Traumatic Didn't Make The Lakers Syndrome is REAL JACKASS POWER!!!!!!

I want the Dims to filibuster. I want them to filibuster the hell out of it. I want the public to see them filibuster while issues like Social Security sit in the doldrums. Let the Dims make fools of themselves publicly - no difficult task; most merely need to speak - so we conservatives can use it against them. Let them shut down Senate business like little baby two year olds throwing temper tantrums. Good. We'll use that against them too. The Republicans should have forced the issue long ago. They are also being far too passive about the issue. Were I in charge I would run a compare and contrast type campaign. How about this one: 'John Aschroft, who does not support programs that racially discriminate, opposed elevating Judge White to the Appellate Bench. For this, he was branded a racist by the Dims and their sycophant media. Harry Reid, who strongly supports programs that racially discriminate, is against elevating Janeyce Rogers Brown to the Appellate bench AND voted against the confirmation of Clarence Thomas as a Supreme Court Justice. What does that make him? Well Dims? Well CBS, NBC, ABC, CNN?' One might substitute a # of names in for Harry Reid's in the above. I'd also be running video tapes of Leahy, Bonior, et al pontificating about the need for an up or down Senate vote in the early '90s. I'd run them over and over again. This filibuster is stupid. Give the judges a vote and get on with it. Vinny the Anvil Post Traumatic Didn't Make The Lakers Syndrome is REAL JACKASS POWER!!!!!!

I'm disappointed in the Senate. Mr. Galloway was quite feisty. Had I been a Senator and he mentioned the Rumsfeld analogy, I would have asked him if the #444 meant anything to him and if he had bothered to watch the news during 1979/1980/1981. One has to wonder why the Senate sub-committee acted as they did. Vinny the Anvil Post Traumatic Didn't Make The Lakers Syndrome is REAL JACKASS POWER!!!!!!
