  1. Hi! Are you dating at all? Or are you a serial single? I only ask because I think there is some confusion between dating and committing to a relationship. Just because someone dates around and dates many girls doesn't mean they have to be miserable. You can still look for the 'right' girl and have fun meeting and enjoying the company of women. But that's the key - you have to have the time and inclination to want to go out and meet and enjoy the company of many women. Some, may feel it's a waste of time (especially when they could be skydiving) - and there is nothing wrong at all with that. That's just having your priorities in order.
  2. I was jumping in Titusville back when all the fires were ravaging Florida. The dz was shut down eventually but until then, we could see the multiple 'fronts' from altitude - it was pretty amazing! On the ground was miserable!! Just going from the house to your car - you would smell like you stood downwind of a barbeque all day. Action expresses priority. - Mahatma Ghandi
  3. Sure. OK. I was going for a de-coccooning butterfly drinking a cosmopolitan - but what the hell, astronaut fairy works, too...
  4. I have no idea what the fuck this means but I think I love whitepeppa... edited: ...holy shit, I'm still laughing... Action expresses priority. - Mahatma Ghandi
  5. Agreed!!! Please visually look at my gear - don't touch anything - point out something you think looks odd and why. That's all I expect, and that's all I give unless asked. I, too would be pretty annoyed and then concerned if some unknown person started pulling and tugging on my gear in the plane! I can understand the need to vent in the original post partly because she's female. While it might not be a great idea to assume that's why someone is checking your gear - I have been talked down to, patronized and had more experienced jumpers and even less experienced jumpers be outright condescending because I'm female. That plus the 'show your tits mentality' of alot of guys can occasionally really get to you. Other times, you can blow it off. I don't even think it's right for instructors to grab students' gear and check it without asking. The point that ultimately they are responsible for saving their own lives should be made from the beginning. That's not to say that instructors shouldn't check - but a "Do you mind if I give your gear a checking?" and then explaining what you're checking for and why would not only be polite but also reinforce a sense of responsibility. 6. GOD! I do that ALL THE TIME!!! It's so frustrating, too, because I actually sit and think of it! For some reason the true spelling won't click in my brain! I need a mnemonic device...apparently recalling the word 'finite' isn't working... Action expresses priority. - Mahatma Ghandi
  7. I would add "AIDS in Africa" to that theory. Action expresses priority. - Mahatma Ghandi
  8. Child deductions on taxes? I'm constantly amazed at the atrocities committed for money. To people, to animals, to spirituality... Action expresses priority. - Mahatma Ghandi
  9. I'm not so sure the use of skydiving/BASE photos in advertising means we're mainstream. I'm an art director (in an ad team, I do the picture part, the copywriter does the word part). If I had to do an ad like the crutchfield thing, I'd want to put an image in that TV that was clean and simple with some kind of visual interest - to keep the reader looking for that few extra seconds. (It's not really a selling technique - it looks better in our portfolios! ) Sky vistas or mountain vistas with a person jumping works beautifully. It just as easily could have been a surfer. My guess is that it's not only just a trend to use 'sky sports' but also that with all the reality crap on TV, we're desensitized and it takes more and more to grab someone's attention. Look at it this way, whoever took that photo got a nice $$ for it. Doesn't hurt the profitablility of being a freefall/BASE photographer!
  10. Unbelievable. That is just about the sweetest thing I've seen/heard in a long time. (Makes me miss my grandma like crazy.

  12. I've had 3 mals. 2 spinners (1 violent and 1 easy) and 1 total. For each of the spinners the cutaway pillow wasn't an issue - once you decide to chop, peeling and pulling is generally a non-issue. However on the violent spinner - it took me forever to get my hands up to the pad and then another eternity to get the cables released. When I finally did (no rsl), I was so frickin' thankful to have a d-ring to grab and yank. cutaway pad, reserve lo-pro d-ring is my vote. Action expresses priority. - Mahatma Ghandi
  13. I know. I realized in my above post that I used 'sniff' in a way that could be misconstrued - I pretty much just grossed myself out. Action expresses priority. - Mahatma Ghandi
  14. I agree generally. Although a hearty shiraz is wonderful with curry. (I don't eat meat/fish/cheese so I have to find other foods to have my reds with) A tip I learned for the very spicy stuff: The spices in most of the hot foods are oily. Water (unless it's hot, like tea) just rolls over the oily spices. Try bread. The bread will absorb the oily spices. An alternative is to drink milk. Milk contains a substance called "casein" which will bind to the spices and carry them away. Alcohol also dissolves oily spices. Then again, I'm looking for excuses to drink wine with anything. 15. Did you see the episode of (?) where they went back and found her again? Fascinating. Action expresses priority. - Mahatma Ghandi
  16. Ordering a desert wine before dinner or something super sweet with a spicy meal will not help you shed either your dislike of wine nor the appearance of not knowing wine. Wine with food is complementary - you could equate it to adding sugar to a cheese hors d'oeurve or salting your chocolate cake. 'Wine people' really love wine - and if this guy has an extensive collection, he'd probably love to share what he knows. Might be a good move to ask him questions. I wouldn't be afraid to show your naivete of wine - then again, you might get into a position where you're having to try a lot of wine. (dream come true!) Action expresses priority. - Mahatma Ghandi
  17. hell-ooooo? Crosskeys has a 182, 3 caravans, a porter, a super otter and skyvan, a biplane AND a helicopter. Plus some VERY champion skydivers AND Square 3 gear store. And we're in frickin' New Jersey! (and we're not the 'stix' - Philly is 15 minutes away) Action expresses priority. - Mahatma Ghandi

  22. I'd call that the 'stix'. Especially compared to the booming metropolis that is Perris, CA! Action expresses priority. - Mahatma Ghandi
  23. The reason skydiving will most likely never be huge is because kids can't do it. That's the total ticket in big money sports - hook 'em when they're young. Skysurfing was closest in big money appeal because kids could relate to skateboarding or surfing. But then there was no follow through potential. If a kid was interested, he couldn't do anything about it until he was 18, went through AFF, trained etc. Too much lag time. Swooping has potential. The action is immediately visible and speed is commonly understood. The trick is to find a way for kids to fly parachutes without plane rides, 100's of jumps and freefall. A ground launch system might be a good start... Action expresses priority. - Mahatma Ghandi
  24. Not enough information to interpret. Your answer seemed appropriate, if not, a bit defensive. But understandably so - wierd thing to text to your boyfirend... If she's neurotic, best thing is for you to stay neutral, calm - state the facts, be consistent, go with the flow. If there is a real issue at hand, talk to her in person. Don't entertain any extra drama ("my friend said..."). Maybe ask yourself if you can have a relationship with someone who communicates 'issues' by text message? Edited: to say right on, billvon. Pretty fluent in chickspeak. Action expresses priority. - Mahatma Ghandi
