It's a requirement in the UK to do a hop'n'pop at the end of the AFF too, to prove that you can open quickly in the event of an aircraft emergency and to get AFF'ers less scared of low exits. Having started on RAPS and then converted to AFF, I still needed to do the hop'n'pop at the end of my AFF although I had loads of 5 and 10 second delays in my log book. tash Don't ever save anything for a special occasion. I started wearing my watch on my right hand when I started jumping. Being a men's style Swatch it was a bit big under my alti. I have now (after 6 years) got used to looking to my left hand for altitude and my right hand for time. I have been known to look at my left hand in a commercial plane when going through cloudbase though to see where the bottom of the clouds are .... obviously useless as I'm not wearing my alti and it is all up to the pilot on a commercial plan anyway, but in some ways I'm glad I still do that even when it is pointless! tash Don't ever save anything for a special occasion. I believe so. I'd rather wait for a rig than them hiring people like me (I'm not a master rigger but can sew) to build a life saving device that might fail only because I don't have the full skill set! tash Don't ever save anything for a special occasion. obviously everyone has a different level of patience, but I ordered my Odyssey a while back knowing it had a long wait as I knew I was going to Z-Hills in November and could pick it up myself when I was there and avoid shipping costs

A letter to the editor of Parachutist
skytash replied to diverdriver's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I think this is a good topic, and fortunately I jump at a DZ where the pilots have the final say on whether we are jumping or not, the planes are well looked after etc etc. I'm all for supporting a pilot against a DZO if s/he doesn't want to fly for whatever reason. The problem I have with this, is that I don't really know enough about planes to be able to SEE or KNOW whether there is a likely problem re maintenance etc. Any advice on how I could tell that a plane is badly maintained?? Going back to a point made quite early on re skydiving having lots of take-offs and landings in comparison to GA, I would assume that skydiving operations just have more take-offs and landings per hour's flight as each flight is only around 20mins and GA would involve longer flights (that is just an assumption, I'm happy to stand corrected on that!) tash Don't ever save anything for a special occasion. I have found the 2nd hand books through Amazon.co.uk were just as good as the new ones, some even better as the important stuff was already underlined in pencil Still have loads of doorstops as I haven't got 'round to re-selling them yet... Another thing I find annoying is when they come out in new editions each year and you can't sell them on to people doing the same course the following year as the new edition is out and they are worried they will miss something if they have 2nd rather than 3rd editions tash Don't ever save anything for a special occasion. NZ CAA Grants Type Certificate to PAC 750XL -- Press Clips.

not being an aircraft techy type person I don't fully undertand all the stuff in the .pdf you posted the link to . My question is, does it have a CoG problem and hence a 'line' over which only a set number of people are allowed to go on exit like Caravans, Lets and Casas, or can you just all pile into the door like on an Otter? tash Don't ever save anything for a special occasion. that's what I meant - just didn't explain it properly . Obviously the sun has nothing to do with wind direction, but no matter where I am, the sun is always around so together with the memory as to where it was when I was facing into wind on the ground, I can use it as a reference. tash Don't ever save anything for a special occasion. good to plan for a PLF if you don't know the wind direction. One of the things I do before getting on the plane is judge the wind direction by the sun (mind you if it was hazy, you may not have been able to do so) and remember 'land with the sun around 2 o'clock' or whatever. That way if I land off I have an idea of the wind direction. Of course that may not always work, winds do change etc etc, and doing a PLF is definitely the right thing to do if in any doubt, but it keeps my mind at rest to know my landing direction even if I can't see a wind sock! tash Don't ever save anything for a special occasion. definitely bring your rig, but you may want to invest in thermals/microfleeces as well. We jump all year round and just adjust clothing to suit the temperature! tash Don't ever save anything for a special occasion. Being alive is a special occasion. Avril Sloe

I converted from RAPS to AFF (having done my RAPS at Nethers too and sitting on the ground a LOT!). At the time I was told that as I had done 15s delays, I could miss out levels I and II on the AFF. As you are on 20s delays and you choose to switch, you should also be able to miss out the first two levels unless the rules have changed (I doubt it though) tash Don't ever save anything for a special occasion. Impact of skydiving on your regular life

I spend all my time staring at the clear blue skies above me instead of working but am taking a long week-end and am going to the DZ tomorrow! Oh - and none of my wuffo friends even call me when the weather is like this! tash Don't ever save anything for a special occasion. Being alive is a special occasion. Avril Sloe -
perhaps it's because there aren't that many of us and we travel the world to jump, meet people all over the world as a result and the best way to stay in touch with them is on-line! tash Don't ever save anything for a special occasion. Being alive is a special occasion. Avril Sloe

i'm glad it works for you guys, i know i've also used dial anti-bacterial, w/ good results, even tho it's also not really recommended (also becuase it dries), so i guess it boils down to everyones body is a bit different when I had my nose done last year the piercer told me to use hydrogen peroxide (2% or 3% solution, can't remember). He said that although alcohol, salt etc works, they tend to encourage fast healing and therefore lead to scar tissue. If I was ever considering taking the nose ring out, minimal scarring would be preferrable. For my belly button the best thing I found was getting pneumonia and being prescribed serious anti-biotics, healed it up in no time. Not really a recommendation though! tash Don't ever save anything for a special occasion. Being alive is a special occasion. Avril Sloe

tongue - no question about it! You can do any other place too, but if a guy is happy to be pierced, he HAS to get his tongue done - the effect can be amazing tash Don't ever save anything for a special occasion. Being alive is a special occasion. Avril Sloe
