Exactly how does Jesse Jackson earn a living? FallRate

Pity. This could have made for a very interesting thread. FallRate

Hmm...this isn't entirely ridiculous, really. In his book "The Whole Shebang", Timothy Ferris makes a funny quip about how by teaching high school students Newtonian Physics, we are simply teaching them to do it wrong the first time. Newton's theory of gravity apparently doesn't hold up, that is if we can trust the opinions of modern physicists. Edited to add: I should really not criticize others for failing to read an article when I missed the obvious fact that it was a farce. But, my point is still valid. FallRate

It can get quite heated in SC...still, it's a bit more civilized than the BASE Forum. FallRate

I do see a fair comparison between people who choose to amuse themselves by driving a less efficient vehicle and those who choose to amuse themselves by riding a jumplane to altitude. So how many gallons of your grandchildren's oil have you needlessly pissed away on the ride to altitude? FallRate

Yes. Point made, and I hit the mark dead-on. BTW, I'm not defending SUV's. I happen to drive a VW Golf TDI...about 44-45 mpg and I use biodiesel wherever I find it. However, I would be a hypocrite if I were to pass judgment on those who drive SUV's only because they enjoy it, seeing as my favorite activity is a power sport. In other words, I am responsible for the burning of fuel for the sole purpose of entertaining myself, as is everyone else on this site. (Except for the BASE'rs who walk or climb to the top.) FallRate

I have to agree. It is a bit twisted that someone would make use of an SUV which burns so much more fuel than other vehicles. But, then again, at least they are going somewhere. What about the individuals who take rides in SUV's for the sole purpose of recreation, just ending up where they started? Damned selfish, if you ask me! FallRate

Certainly a statistic worth pondering. FallRate

Don't know if this is a repost, but it should add to the thread. Should be safe for work. 2.5 mb Quicktime Video VW Polo FallRate

Any Predictions on the Michael Jackson Verdict?
FallRate replied to waltappel's topic in Speakers Corner
Am I the only one who believes that allowing your child to sleep over at Michael Jackson's house should constitute a charge of child neglect/endangerment against the parents? No opinion on the verdict. Didn't watch the trial. FallRate -
Gasoline? Are the French still flying radials? FallRate

That is unacceptable! Put my name in and the license popped right up. Someone is going to get a very nasty letter. FallRate

What can I say? I value brevity. FallRate

Nicely put, but not necessarily accurate. A kamikaze (suicide bomber) may sacrifice his or her own life and take those of others with the intention and very real effect of saving lives. FallRate

The fact that Prohibition was tested and failed miserably is a rather good argument against it. But it can be entertaining to revive antiquated laws. While we're at it, lets bring back stoning for working on the Sabbath. FallRate

No pictures yet. Should be a couple of me under canopy but that's a bit boring. I might be able to get a couple of pictures of the plane though. Actually I am planning to go jump again in the next couple of days from the same plane. I'll try to get a picture or two of Joe (pilot) from the front seat. FallRate
-
I just made my first jump from a Citabria about thirty minutes ago. Had to take the door off, sit sideways in the front and hang my feet out. Really fun jump! Joe (the pilot/a&p/beer brewer) was a bit cold flying from the back seat with the door off. OK so I owe beer. All you have to do is trek up to Thief River Falls, MN and I'll be more than happy to pay up! But then I am planning to move in the next month or so and am willing to go just about anywhere. So who has the best beer in the country? FallRate

The problem with having a movie star as governor
FallRate replied to billvon's topic in Speakers Corner
I could be wrong, but if Arnold had not been an actor this would be a non-issue, IMO. I would say "think about it", but I assume most people will, as I seem to have a higher opinion of the general populace than those who refer to them as sheep. And by the way, I'm not an Arnie supportor. Neither am I a detractor. Not a resident of the State of California, so he effects me not at all. FallRate -
You may not have included it in your quote, but the term "nazi" seems to be missing. Santorum made use of an analogy which illustrated what he perceived to be a hypocrisy on the part of dems. To believe that he called the dems "nazis" is an overly sensisitive leap. Edited to add: From this thread... From another thread... FallRate

I could be wrong, but taking seriously an opinion on aesthetics from Donald Trump seems a bit humorous, when you take into account his hair. FallRate
-
Does Godwin's law apply when discussing neo-nazis? Or is the use of the term "neo-nazi" an application of Godwin's law? Maybe instead of neo-nazi we should use the term "bad, bad people". Also, if one were to propose a law which states that "anytime an argument results in a comparison of anything to drunkeness, the argument is over", does it mean we can no longer describe someone as appearing to be drunk? Pregnant student, banned from graduation, walks anyway

People, please! Catholicism is a religion of peace. FallRate -
From the original post... I'm picturing a couple of teens putting a dog and a cat in the transporter at the same time to see what comes out. FallRate

A reason why the right-wingers should re-consider the Iraq war:
FallRate replied to SpeedRacer's topic in Speakers Corner
Wow. Clinton did argue that Saddam Hussein posed a very serious and real threat, so this isn't exactly a flip or a flop. It's a great sentiment coming from a man many people have respect for, particularly around the world. -

FallRate replied to Darius11's topic in Speakers Corner
They probably wanted her to not become pregnant. Good or bad, the threat of disgrace is quite effective in influencing behavior. I'm not a Catholic...don't really care, particularly when taking into account it is a private school. Should the father have been allowed to attend if the mother was not? My opinion is "no". But then again, it's a private school, doesn't concern me. FallRate
