  1. That a cop would believe the war on drugs to be asinine is not without precedent. I was raised by a cop who held that opinion and have known other cops who feel the same. Edited to: put a stop to the picking of nits. FallRate
  2. Perhaps the 30 member team should keep their eyes out for a note which reads "So long, and thanks for all the fish." That would be worrisome. FallRate
  3. Aides would not be taking the quizzes. But that does raise a point: cheating. Anyone caught cheating has to drive a fuel truck at the head of a convoy in Iraq. FallRate
  4. Not meaning to be irritable, but the first thing I do when I sit down at my computer is look over the latest news. There is really no need to make a post simply to provide a link to a news story which is readily available. FallRate
  5. This makes me think there should be a "spoiler quiz". Any congressional member who attempts to vote on a bill must first pass a very simple quiz, with at least a 90, which covers the basic content of that bill. (Tested for simplicity by a control group of Fourth Graders.) Fail the quiz, and that congressman or senator doesn't get to vote. There would be a minimum participation requirement of, say 80% (we'll start low). A failure rate which prevents this level of participation would be grounds for a recall vote in that congressional member's district or State. The second occurrence would be grounds for summary dismissal. Any takers? I forgot to add that A) the possession of "legislative cliff-notes" would be considered an act of high treason and B) sponsors of a bill must receive a grade of at least 98% or the bill is quashed. 6. This thread should be nominated for "most humorous of 2006"! Good stuff. FallRate
  7. As they should have been! We should have sent them away and encouraged Samuel Smith or that beautiful genius who invented Guinness to immigrate! Maybe then we'd have Taddy Porter on tap in every bar in the country instead of Budweiser. FallRate
  8. There is a movie where Quentin Tarantino makes a cameo and discusses the underlying homo-erotic themes of Top Gun. I've not seen it, but I would like to. A trustworthy source tells me that it is the funniest diatribe ever captured on film. Does anyone know the movie? FallRate
  9. My post was not an attempt to debate whether or not lethal force was warranted. I just can't get over the fact that in the introduction to a video in which a human being is shot to death, this fact is treated as an afterthought. It's chilling. FallRate
  10. Uhh...am I the only one here who is thinking "fuck the dog"? Jesus-Fucking-Christ, there is a warning to dog lovers that the video shows a dog being shot. (Apparently by individuals whose motive may have been that the dog had a better chance for promotion...based on intelligence testing.) That a person is shot and killed...well, apparently that is mild viewing. FallRate
  11. Yeah, it's still good. You just got me really excited for a little while there. FallRate
  12. I checked J&G's website and they have Wolf .45 ammo listed at $99 for 500 rounds. Am I missing something or was that a typo? FallRate
  13. It is protection only if current courts agree that every citizen has the right to legally own firearms. Has any federal court ever ruled that there it is a constitutional right to own firearms? (Not a leading question. I do not know the answer.) The most recent case I am (vaguely) familiar with concerned the citizens whose firearms were confiscated in Louisiana. But I believe that case was argued on the basis of property rights, that property had been illegally seized because there were no applicable laws prohibiting ownership. The right may be assumed, but ultimately it comes down to how it is interpreted. If the Supreme Court determines (decides) that the Second Amendment applies only to militias, then it is clear we will not have that right. And if it is currently a right, there are a lot of people in New York City and D.C. who are being infringed upon. Edited to add: I am not addressing whether or not we should have the right to own firearms in this post. Just addressing whether or not we do have that right at present. I have owned firearms since age thirteen, but it has always seemed clear to me that should my local, state or federal government decide to prohibit that ownership, I'm SOL. At least until the next election. FallRate
  14. What say you keep Gweneth (please) and send us the recipe for Samuel Smith's Taddy Porter? FallRate
  15. If an officer cannot control a single 11-year old boy, regardless of that boy's size, without resorting to the use of a taser, that officer should apply for a greeter position at the nearest Wal-Mart. FallRate
  16. The notion of Race is a categorical error. One which we should abandon. Agreed. FallRate
  17. Should that be the case. It still stands they were not arrested for praying on the plane. They were arrested for not getting off the plane. If these gentlemen had no intention of causing any harm, which is most likely the case, then it sucks that they were asked to depart the aircraft. But it is not out of the ordinary for this to occur. I know of one case where a friend would have been barred from flying had she not agreed to remove her nose ring. FallRate
  18. Your premise is flawed. The six Imams were not arrested for praying on a plane. They were told to get off the plane because their praying was upsetting to other travelers. The vocalist for Prodigy was once kicked off a plane for, well, looking the way he does. He got off the plane so he was not arrested. The Imams were arrested for not complying with an order to get off the plane. If you are asked or told to get off a plane...do it. And yes, I would be very suspect of a group of Southern Baptists should they decide to have a group prayer in the same situation. And I would support having them removed. There may be a notorious abortion doctor on the plane they are planning to take out. FallRate

  20. This reminds me of reading Playboy as an adolescent. In the letters section, I assumed there would be "Best Position?", "Easiest Way to Hook-Up?", "Is Six Inches Better Than Average?", etc. Instead, I mostly found questions concerning the proper consumption of french cheeses and overly detailed questions concerning stereo speakers. Not that the question you have posed is in any way out of line...just not the kind of dialogue I would expect to find on the subject of guns in SC. It's nice to be surprised every once in a while. Does anyone know if Asa Baber skydives? FallRate

  22. The first time I brought this up, you said you didn't believe you made any mention of "fines". This time, I'm apparently not aware of what the fines were intended to do. You may try to argue that the initial $500 fine and subsequent $1000 fines are to pay for the true cost of using an SUV in the global economy, but that doesn't hold up. I very seriously doubt there is any reason for a second trip through Detroit in an SUV to have twice the effect on the global economy when compared to the first. And a second trip down a street or across a bridge would not be any more damaging than the first. So the point of the fines is to discourage people from driving SUV's with no passengers into urban areas. The fines are to penalize them, to affect their decisions on what to drive and where.
