  1. I'm in similar situaation to you. What I did is: a) Did a few solo just getting used to not having an instructor watching over you. b) Did a few 2-Ways with some experienced jumpers (but not coaches). c)I've now just started my coached jumps aiming toward FS1. ---------- Ben G Still Sinking :-(
  2. An altimeter is never goign to be accurate to tell if your at 200 feet or 250 feet. Altimeters don't measure altitude - they measure barometic pressure. The best way to work out your altitude down low is to use your eyes, unfourtunately that sort of judgement only comes with experience. As for jumping in trainers - that won't havebeen a problem - in fact most centers advise against boots. A correctly performed PLF will do the business. Sounds like you just landed akwardly. ---------- Ben G Still Sinking :-(
  3. The Hook Turners are usually the same people that: a) Open low b) Have rocket canopys that land well before me anyway c) Like to land in the spectator area which is tiny - and I don't like to land there anyway ---------- Ben G Still Sinking :-(
  4. That is the tough question WHUFFO's ask - its a hard one to answer especially when your trying to get them to jump. I usually re-assure them that the chance of your reserve failing in almost zero, and that most people die doing stupid stuff i.e. low turns - which is basically the truth. I don't go into specific numbers though. ---------- Ben G Still Sinking :-(
  5. Same here - I'm not complaining at the mo - but I might be in a few years ---------- Ben G Still Sinking :-(
  6. Welcoem to the forums. Out of interest what is the US requirments for accuracy landings?? ---------- Ben G Still Sinking :-(
  7. Welcome the the Forums. Gald to see another Brit at DZ.com ---------- Ben G Still Sinking :-(

  9. I can - ABOVE THE DZ I've been jumping since I was 16 - love the sport!!!! ---------- Ben G Still Sinking :-(
  10. To get your CAT II what do you have to do??? ---------- Ben G Still Sinking :-(
  11. I don't think it an American System, Nylstroom is in South Africa. I don't know what you mean by Cat II - cat 2 is in the UK means you have done 2 good SL jumps. I'm assuming your problem is something along the lines of FS/RW problems. My best piece of advice is speak to an FS coach and do a couple of jumps with him. If they're any good they'll pick up any problems you might have. ---------- Ben G Still Sinking :-(
  12. Only once - 1st SL student had his main pin comeout in the door, so JM toook the plane down unloaded him and we went back up. ---------- Ben G Still Sinking :-(
  13. That's a very good point - vice-versa how many people with an extreme main jump an equally extreme reserve - when you have a cutaway - you've got tha adrenalin flowing like crazy - the last thing you need is to have to land extreme performance reserve where the margin of error is small. ---------- Ben G Still Sinking :-(
  14. My sigantures is only yellow as I've not got around to thinking of anything to put there - any suggestions?? ---------- Ben G Still Sinking :-(
  15. Well done on passing your AFF - glad to see another Brit on here. ---------- Ben G Still Sinking :-(
  16. Now all I need is an amusing quote for the bottom of my sig!! Got the usual name/links though!! ---------- Ben G Still Sinking :-(
  17. That's one think I've not told my parents how much I spend on the sport via jumps, kit & beer ---------- Ben G Still Sinking :-(
  18. I was talking out main pins on throwaway. Reserve pins are a different matter as they are ripcord operated. ---------- Ben G Still Sinking :-(
  19. Attached is a little diagram to hopefully explain what I mean. If you are thinking of buying a rig, I'm not an instructor but I would advise you to get a curved pin. ---------- Ben G Still Sinking :-(
  20. To be honest I've never heard of that reason being used when explaining the move to curved pin although it does sound possible. I was always under the impression that curved pins were designed so as to decrease the chances of a PC in tow. As a straight pin could always jam and lock up. All rigs these days have curved pins. And I don't think I've seen a second hand rig ([I]that's for sale) with a straight pin ---------- Ben G Still Sinking :-(
  21. My Parents though it was a one off. When both me and my cousin became regular they didn't know what to say. My Parents were OK i suppose, but my Cousins Parents were awful. They made him get the train instead of oming in the car with said he could only gor 6 times a year etc.. Eventually he found ways to get around them, but I still don't think they know he jumps as often as he does. ---------- Ben G Still Sinking :-(
  22. The site is at www.para-gear.com. You can't link directly to the page, so you've got to go Homepage/MILITARY/Tactical Systems/PARIS It's basically the sort of rig the military would use on a HAHO jump. ---------- Ben G Still Sinking :-(
  23. I don't tape the air holes I jump with contact lenses all the time. I've only once had a contact lens fall out, and that was on my back-loops in RAPS. I've never had any other problems. Although I've only ever done RW. I've not tried any free flying yet. One problem with taping the holes is that when you in the plane they will steam up ever easier. ---------- Ben G Still Sinking :-(
  24. Seems quite good. I only have 2 points of note: 1-The canopy in the pictures fits quite loosely into the bag - how would the system be affected in the canopy needed a lot of persuading to go into the bag?? 2-Not being too rich myself - I'do bviously like to seen one inaction before I part with my cash! ---------- Ben G Still Sinking :-(
  25. Welcome the the Forums and Skydiving. If you liked your first jump(s) you'll love the rest. ---------- Ben G Still Sinking :-(
