  1. Phew - I'm gald I did RAPS - I don't think I would have passed that level. Best Exit I ever did was my Unstabel Exit!!!! - Cool!! I assume their is somethign similar in AFF ---------- Ben G Still Sinking :-(
  2. I always put my alti on about 5 minutes before I get in the plane - and the zero it just before I get in the plane. An Alit can be affected by your skin temperature. Somtimes I've put my alti on and after it's heatde up to my skin temperature - it's showing up to 500 feet difference. ---------- Ben G Still Sinking :-(
  3. Actually, its a horseshoe... You are both wrong it was a pilotchute in TOE
  4. Jon here's how it works in the UK: -You need to recieve a basic packing brief from an instructor or approved packer. You may then pack under supervision. -After you've demonstrted your ability to pack well and demonstrated how to do basic parachute maintaince. You will recieve your approved packing certifcate. With this you cna pack unsupervised. My Advice to you is: a) See if you can bring forward your AFF course - March 04 is a long tiem to wait
  5. Remeber all barometic pressure altimters - rely on air pressure they are generally accurate give or take 200 feet. They won't tell you when to flare. And Skydiving Digital Alti's are barometric. If you want to go super accurate. Get a GPS or RADAR alti. -The first works using the GPS satelliate system. I don't know how accurate these are. -RADAR Altimters work using a similar concept to SONAR. They can be very accurate give or take only a few inches. RADAR alti's are not commercially avliable (as far as I know) and are very expensive. And are usually stuck in the nose of a Jet Fighter than on the wrist of a skydiver. ---------- Ben G Still Sinking :-(

  12. Has anyone told you the new Regs - everytime beer is drunk in the states a case of it has to be sent (by airmail) to me and all the other Brits. Conragtulations anyway. Edit: all this talking about beer has made me write like I'm drunk ---------- Ben G Still Sinking :-(
  13. The point is that he's suing the DZ. It's a bit like me suing the DZ - after a hard opening or a non-tip toe landing. ---------- Ben G Still Sinking :-(

  16. From a Student's Point of view: What I want to see in a coach: -THEY CAN COACH - there's plenty of brilliant Skydivers out there. However there's a difference between being able to skydive and being able to tell others how to do it. -Be a damm good Skydiver. As a student I don't want to have to worry about you while - I'm worrying about a million and one problems. -Be able to spot the tiniest of errors which lead to mis-flying - but don't be nit-picky. ---------- Ben G Still Sinking :-(
  17. I'm just scared ---------- Ben G Still Sinking :-(

  22. Only scrumpot has touched on this. (I believe) the way in which your PC is packed can have an effect on whether or not you get a Horseshoe (with the PC still in the pouch). - Clearly there's not much stopping a PC wrapping itself around your leg. It is very hard to explain in writing but any packer/instructor worth their salt should be able to show you. If i'm not doign anything else i often try pulling on my bridle to check that it flows freely and extracts the PC. ---------- Ben G Still Sinking :-(
  23. Go for it. You'll have to keep everyone on DropZone.com informed. You'll love the experience. ---------- Ben G Still Sinking :-(
  24. All I can say - is block it out. After I screwed my ankle up on a landing I managed to hobble into the plane 7 days later. I thought that I would be afraid of the landing but I managed to simply block it out. ---------- Ben G Still Sinking :-(
