Falling forward sometimes means you are putting your feet down before the parachute is done flying. Be ready to take a few steps when you land, but keep your feet inside the vehicle until the ride has come to a complete stop. Don't wait. Although I'd hope you could find someone to video and critique a few of your landings for the price of a beer or two... To the original question - be a wimp. Skydiving is way more fun if you aren't worried about protecting an injury.

Sad news. Bob was one of the nicest guys ever; loved chatting with him while I was sitting in manifest at LP. Fly free, Bob. Thanks for the smiles and laughs.

It should fit fine. Spectra lines take up less room than Dacron.

Sunday's report: USPA BOD meeting
skybytch replied to MikeTJumps's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
There's been an outcry to get some form of canopy related instruction/rating program in place for years now. How many noobs have died or injured themselves flying a wingsuit before 200 jumps? How many noobs have died or injured themselves flying a canopy that is beyond their ability to safely land in less than ideal conditions? And yet it's wingsuits that get the attention. What happened to "education not regulation"? Oh, that only applies to canopies.... One more indication of how screwed up USPA is. -

Get me over 1000 feet with a parachute on my back, I'm fine. Don't even suggest that I climb a 6 foot ladder or work on a roof or even ride a zip line. I'll freak out. Spiders and snakes and dentists are also on my list, but those fears are easier to deal with (spiders can be stepped on, snakes can be run from and dentists have good drugs). If I fall from 6 feet, it's gonna hurt. I really hate pain.

As already stated. those plastic "skateboard" helmets provide better protection than the expensive skydiving specific helmets. If other peoples sweat will bother you, buy one - the cheap skateboarding one, not the expensive skydiving one. Do a search in this forum to find out why you don't need the expensive one right now. Pick up a pair of goggles too. They see more sweat than helmet liners do. You can probably find both at the dz. If not, they can tell you where to look. Other than a logbook and beer, that's all the gear you need to buy until you are done with your student jumps.

Forget Down Sizing - I'm ready to UP SIZE!
skybytch replied to SWhiplash's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
What are you jumping now? I'm a big Spectre fan for old farts like me. Loaded at about 1.0-1.1, with Dacron lines (cuz old backs and necks really appreciate the softer openings - and so you can do casual CRW). Ask some of the old farts at LP what mains they jump and why. Betcha most of them jump Spectres. -
Just be sure your skills are ready for that downsize before you make it. Would kinda suck to get blood all over your new container.
-
The manufacturer just might know what will fit in the container that they make. It's quite possible that they've packed a 230 in a Wings built for a 210 and that's why they don't think you'll be able to get one in there. Of course, you may be an amazing packer and have no problem with it. Most people I know prefer not to work that hard to get the damn thing in the bag and then closed. There are other good reasons not to overstuff a container besides the fun of packing it. Doing so puts stress on the fabric around the grommets and on the stiffeners in the main flaps and it makes the resulting pack job as hard as a brick and looking like shit. My thoughts. YMMV.

There's some excellent day hiking on Mt Tam and a bit further north at Point Reyes.

Can't pass Goldschlager around the way you can jello shots.

Me too - my previous posts were sarcastic. But lots of people don't seem to care. The attitude seems to be that since it hasn't happened, it won't happen. Not realizing that luck only takes one so far. When the FAA decides to start treating jump planes as passenger planes, these are the people we can thank.
-
Not joking. My name is Shirley. Apparently 20 or so people thought it was okay to get on the plane after it landed. And apparently it took off, flew and landed fine on that load too since we haven't heard about it crashing. There's no FAA requirement to report a bird strike and at least a load full of jumpers on the dz didn't care. So again, why bother? As long as it all works out okay, it's safe. Right?

I only let her have half.

I did Jello Shots with skymama once. Ask her about it sometime. It's a GREAT story. And there's pictures! (post disappearing in 3..... 2..... 1..... )

The place we live. Soon. Very soon. But in the meantime, it is fun drooling over the places we could move to.
-
Avoid the stank. Use Cool Whip.
-
Why bother? Apparently it climbed and landed fine even with the bird attached.

Was "Spacer Foam Back Pad" available on a Javelin in 2002?
skybytch replied to rhopstr's topic in Gear and Rigging
An excellent idea, but unfortunately that isn't always possible to do. Knowing ahead of time if it should fit can save both buyer and seller time and money, -

Weight and height alone won't tell you if the MLW is going to fit. You need to know how long the person's torso is, and that depends on how long the person's legs are. Height in inches minus inseam in inches minus 20 = a good estimate of MLW length that will fit. Example - 6' tall with a 33 inseam; 72 - 33 - 20 = 19 so a 19" MLW should fit. 6' tall with a 35 inseam; 72 - 35 - 20 = 17 so a 17" MLW should fit. See how the length of the legs makes a difference? -
Triathlon@1.08 WL - To jump or not to jump...
skybytch replied to iFlyFast's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Suggest you contact Aerodyne and ask if they still have any copies of the Triathlon packing video they put out eons ago. No need to be a test jumper when someone else has already done it. -
Probably because they thought a C16 would fit you best based on your measurements (all of your measurements, not just height and weight). Send 'em an email and ask them why.
