  1. What he was quoted as saying made sense. What you are pointing out was not in quotes - therefore it is very likely that he didn't say it that way. Like others are saying.... let it go. If anyone chooses to follow "advice" found in a newspaper, that's their choice. You can choose to follow or not follow whatever advice you would like. If it matters to you this much, contact the reporter and complain. Ask Dan what he really said. If you aren't willing to do either of those things, STFU already.
  2. Reading the newspaper for skydiving advice is like reading a Paula Dean cookbook for tips on avoiding diabetes. In other words, it's a newspaper article. Get over it already.
  3. Sorry, didn't realize it was all that difficult to disseminate information these days.
  4. A friend of mine had to make the decision to take the love of her life off life support after he was brought back at the scene of a skydiving accident. She has informed those who jump with her the most that she does not want to be resuscitated in the event of an accident. Something to think about. If you don't want to be resuscitated for whatever reason, you need to let your friends and family know now. You may want to wear something while jumping that states this as well (MedicAlert bracelet perhaps), since your friends may not be the first responders.
  5. Anybody else notice the date on the letter? It's now over a month later and USPA hasn't informed the membership about it. So apparently telling USPA really doesn't do us any good...
  6. You should go back there. And never come here again. Tool. edit to add - Yes, this is a personal attack.
  7. This. For the past few years, you've likely been suppressing who you really are to fit in with what you thought he wanted. Spend your time (cuz it's YOURS now) exploring who you are, who you want to be and what you want out of life. Go do the stuff you loved to do before you met him. Explore things and places that he had no interest in. And learn that no one is responsible for your happiness other than you - and you are not responsible for the happiness of anybody other than you. If you are a reader, I highly recommend the book Mastery of Love by Don Miguel Ruiz (his book "The Four Agreements" is also awesome). Will change the way you look at how and who you are in relationships and who might be a suitable partner. Good luck. It's not easy, but on the other side there's someone awesome looking for you.
  8. Try nylon taffeta. It's used on the fronts of some RW suits. Not super breathable, but more so than ZP. And since it's also used to make pretty dresses, you should be able to source it fairly easy.
  9. Nice!! Paying it forward. I love hearing stories like this! We were "given" an almost new Infinity/PDR/Pilot/Cypres a while back. The owner (long time jumper) quit the sport shortly after buying it. He didn't need the money, he just wanted it to be in the air. Blew me away that anybody would just give away a complete new rig. So we found a newer jumper who really can't afford to buy gear and handed it to her with the condition that it come back to us when she got gear so we could pass it on to someone else. She had to take a year or so off due to injury (non-skydiving related) and came back a bit too heavy to jump it. It's now being used by another young newbie who really can't afford this sport. Such an awesome feeling to help keep a broke newbie in the sport. If you don't need the money from a piece of gear you aren't using anymore, I highly recommend paying it forward. That kid you help could very well turn out to be the next "name" in the sport - and I guarantee they will never forget you.
  10. Indeed.... Oh wait, you weren't talking about yourself this time, were you?
  11. It's not specifically designed to make you blend into the sky, is it? No, but it is designed to make you blend into the ground. Might not be something you want should you be laying there injured, hoping your friends will find you.
  12. My username is embroidered on the mudflap of my rig.
  13. As I suggested up thread (sorry I didn't include this in every post) - she should contact the DZO and tell them what happened. Let them know why she won't be doing her AFF there. Give them the chance to do the right thing and fire the offending ride operator. Or at least, post the DZ and ride operators names so those of us who don't want our loved ones and friends treated the same way can avoid the person and/or place.
  14. That is not an excuse. Either be a professional or find some other career. Any "instructor", regardless of gender, who harasses a student sexually (including hitting on them) should have their rating pulled. Before someone's 18 year old daughter gets pawed, she tells Dad who happens to be a lawyer and... well I'm sure you can all figure out where that ends. It'd sure be nice to know where this happened and who the ride operator is. This is not someone I want my soon to be 18 year old niece jumping with. Would you like your daughter to jump with him?
  15. Don't think you need to worry, Max. You're a bit... err... taller than most TI's I had over 200 jumps before I did my first passenger ride. Hated the lack of control (I'm turning! Why am I turning? I don't want to turn!). After 6 or 7 more a couple years later helping my friends get their ratings (as they helped me get mine), never again. I like to do my own tricks and pull my own strings.
  16. Ummm.... how about he gets HIS lust in check? He's the supposed professional here. She's a paying customer who deserves to be treated with respect. Apparently he was able to safely complete the skydive, so while I agree it was unprofessional for him to come on to the student, I don't think it made the jump unsafe. Safety has nothing to do with it. A professional doesn't hit on a student. Period, A rating is not a pussy pass. If guys like that can't control themselves, they need to find another profession before one of their passengers calls a lawyer.

  18. You should inform the management of the dz you jumped at about the behavior of their "instructor." That was completely unprofessional and it needs to be reported. The next woman may not think he's so cute.
  19. I haven't turned final at 500' since the days we used to do 180s to final under our big ass Furys, and I don't know any non-swooper who turns final at or above 500'. Where I jump, if I turn final over the ditch on a no wind day, I'll land long of the peas. If there is a 15 mile an hour wind, I'll land short. If there is a 20 mile an hour wind, I'll land really short. AFAIK, winds work the same no matter where you jump....
  20. What he said. They aren't solutions. If you really think you need to take a pill to skydive, find some other hobby.
  21. A Pursuit might be suitable as a first canopy for someone who enjoys PLF's and has no money to buy something better. It was intended as a CRW canopy... and most CRW jumpers today don't fly one. That should tell you something. Keep looking. If you're on a tight budget, older Sabres, Silhouettes and Triathlons are great first canopies.
  22. What to do if you flare early should have been covered. Before you jump again, please ask your instructor(s) to explain. Pulling up your legs for landing is a tandem thing. You do NOT want to do that on solo jumps. You want to plan to do a PLF - you did learn PLF's, yes?
