  1. Interesting. Please do us all a favor and let us know where you think you might be skydiving (if you should ever actually do any jump other than a tandumb). Most of us would really prefer to not be on the plane with someone who would put the whole load at risk in that manner.
  2. You are correct. You can't teach enough to encounter every possible contingency, and a good instructor will be straight up about that from the start of the day. What you can do is teach enough for the student to make that one skydive safely. Then when they come back for another, you review what they should know and add a little more. If you don't think this program is producing safe skydivers, what would you suggest instead?
  3. Yes, this means you have to grow up. Congrats! I always knew you were great though.
  4. Email the manufacturer. They should know better than anyone else.
  5. That would be an alteration. If you are a master rigger, go for it, and please let us all know how it works out.
  6. Absolutely, that's the best part of the deal! My son is getting married on the 8th nearby. If we bring red cups, can you drink with us on Thursday afternoon?
  7. Really? And you would know that how? Rich, your Stella will arrive in a week or so. On ice. You are open Fridays, right? Now jumping to the Pens bandwagon. A Cup for Iggy!
  8. I hope that you'll be bringing my favorite beer to the American Boogie. But I'm afraid that I'll be bringing you a six pack of... what do Kings fans drink anyway, Natty Ice? It's going to be a great game regardless. Go Sharks!
  9. Note: I've done several long road trips but have never driven north of Montana, so all of this may be useless to you. I find that I do best with an 8-10 hour driving time limit. That doesn't include gas/food/pee stops. Usually works out to a 10-12 hour day. That leaves time to find a room and maybe do some food shopping and a bit of relaxing before sleep. Speaking of food shopping, ice chests are your friend. It's cheaper and probably healthier to buy food at a store and make your meals on the road than it is to do restaurants and fast food. Having a dog along makes it better, I think. "Bad guys" are less likely to bother you, and having to think about their bladder too makes the decision to stop much easier. I've done the sleep in the car in the rest area thing a few times. Don't like it at all. At a minimum, I'd bring a tent and hit campgrounds; if you can budget for motel rooms even better.
  10. Chronic neck issues. Not bad enough for intervention, but bad enough that a terminal reserve opening could be a really bad thing. And that's what makes it suck -there is only a tunnel.
  11. I get that. So many days I'm tempted to go do a hop and pop... what's the worst that could happen?
  12. Click on a few of the links above. Then close these forums and leave them closed. Trust me, you'll enjoy the sport far more if you observe these two simple tips.
  13. Not currently jumping for physical reasons (stupid spine). I'll be back, though. I miss flying with my friends, and especially flying with my hubby.
  14. Before I donate.... does he have a green card?
  15. We teach in our course to hold it until they feel it start to stall - ie when it starts to rock - for both toggle and rear riser stalls. The point of the exercise is to know what it feels like just prior to stall (both ways), so if they ever find themselves feeling the same thing they will know what is going on and how to react.
  16. Really? When? Knock knock... Who's there? Owen. Owen who? OWEN FOUR!!
  17. Only if you order them that way. You can get a Stiletto with Dacron too. Not sure why anybody would want it, but there ya go.
  18. If you're the local rigger, this sounds like one of those rigs best sold long distance. edit to add: this is NOT a comment on your skills as a rigger... it is a comment on how awesome MZ's are to pack...
  19. Indeed. And jumpers have the freedom to choose which companies they spend their money at. The Six Flags comparison is a perfect illustration. How many of you would be upset if a hot 19 year old female packer wearing a bikini top and super short shorts was told by the DZO that she had to put on baggy pants and a t shirt because a tandumb had complained that they were offended by the display of her nice ass and tits? Is the dz a place for skydivers to be skydivers or is it an amusement park for whuffos?
  20. I find your tattoo offensive. You don't have enough years in sport to be wearing that. If I were a DZO and I asked you to cover it up at my dz, would you feel the same as you do about "this guy"?
  21. Wouldn't a better question be why didn't these two men save their own lives? That little black box is NOT a guarantee of survival. There is no guarantee of survival in skydiving, regardless of how many "safety" devices you jump with.
  22. Not worth it. Sell your current rig and buy something that fits you and the canopies you want to use now. A container sized for a 210 main will sell super fast, as they can be hard to get find used.
  23. Supplex (used on most freefly suits) takes dye well.
  24. Go do an AFF jump. If you don't want to go up and do it again when you land from your first REAL skydive (ie one where YOU are responsible for saving your own life), you probably won't find that skydiving is worth your time and money.
