  1. Nothing. I already have to clean up the neighbor's kids candy wrappers from my front yard on a weekly basis. Why in the world would I want to give them more?
  2. Anybody else notice some really slow page loads when this is showing in the bottom of the browser? It's not just dz.com and it's not every time; it happens on every website I go to that uses them (some sites worse than others). Doesn't matter which computer or internet connection I'm on. Can anybody suggest a reason why?
  3. Good point; I'll remember that. But I figure it doesn't hurt to back up the Mark I eyeballs on every skydive with an alti check; perhaps rebuilding the habit now will make doing it on AFF jumps a no-brainer. I don't want to have to be reminding myself to check the alti while trying to concentrate on what the student is doing.
  4. I look at it my visual more in the plane and under canopy than in freefall; until recently I very rarely checked it in freefall. Didn't think much of it until I asked my s/o what I should be working on to be ready for an AFF course (he's done more AFF jumps than I've done jumps). First thing he mentioned was getting back into the habit of looking at my visual in freefall. So now I'm trying to remember to check it at least a couple times in freefall. It was kind of nice to know exactly when I peeled off the tracking dive that was headed for town instead of the dz a couple weeks ago.
  5. Ya got your workin' gauge and your thinkin' gauge. Messican is workin' gauge.
  6. Morning sex. Noon sex. Afternoon sex. Early evening sex. Drinking. Having sex while drinking. Drinking while having sex.
  7. I doubt that the organizers expect this one day to make a financial impact on any company... in the short term anyway. As it says in the section I quoted, it's "an attempt to catalyze a mind shift towards sustainable lifestyles."
  8. People who have been reported to companies like ChexSystems are often unable to get a checking account anywhere. There are also people out there who prefer to not have records of their finances that the government can easily access.
  9. Send a PM to bozo. He's got quite a few jumps on his new hip.
  10. But the issue there is, what about those who can't or for whatever reason won't have a bank account? Sure, there are "prepaid" debit cards out there but all of them have fees attached.
  11. I don't think you're wrong, but I think there's more than one angle to look at. The U.S. economy is based on never ending consumption. Does anybody really need 20 pairs of shoes? Of course not, but what would happen to the shoe companies if we were all content to have two pair that we have repaired instead of replaced when they start to wear out? This may just be a California fruits-n-nuts thing, but I know several people who won't buy anything new if they can avoid it. Instead, they buy things they need used (at thrift stores or through sites like craigslist). I believe they call it anti-consumerism.
  12. Nice! Congrats! Do you do probono work?

    Lunch???

Pizza sounds good. Maybe if I close my eyes and wish real hard, my Ritz crackers and peanut butter cookies will taste like just like a Round Table gourmet veggie pizza....
  14. And will you send me some?
  15. No worries. I'll call Skyride the day before and buy a tandem for you.
  16. In doing research for a paper I found this. I'm in. Anybody else?
  17. Good luck with that. As I found while trying to stand up for what is right by not selling (or doing business with companies that will happily sell) inappropriately sized canopies to newbies, you're swimmin' upstream and the current is damn strong.
  18. Skydiving was the only thing that completely held my attention for longer than a few months. Gotta love ADD! The phase of "gotta be at the dz every minute I can and be on every load I can" (I like to call it the "puppy stage") wears off for most people after a couple hundred jumps. Note I said "most" - there are people with thousands of jumps who still feel a need to be on every load they can. And then most of us discover balance... we remember that there are other fun things to do on a beautiful Saturday morning. Enjoy the puppy stage while it lasts. I think it's a good thing to be completely immersed in this sport at first - being at the dz all the time makes getting to know other jumpers easier and doing a bunch of jumps in a (relatively) short time period is the best way to build a solid skill foundation for later, when discovering balance might have you not staying quite as current.
  19. WUML? Still missing you, Chris. You all better be partying up there.
  20. I'm with you on that. I jump at Skydance and I have no idea if they take Skyride vouchers or not. As long as the plane flies when I want to make a jump, I don't really care how the people doing tandems made their reservation.
  21. Funny, I wasn't scared at all on my first 30 or so jumps on the Safire.
  22. Sell the house, the electronics, and the furniture and replace it all with a trailer at the dz.
