  1. Great shots!!! Thank you guys for sharing! As an aside, this thread would be amazing to see on a forum that would enable pictures in threads! Is there a reason for dropzone.com allowing pics as attachments only ??????? Carlos Martins Portugal www.cj.smugmug.com
  2. Not likely to show up at e-bay but the new HC3 is top loading tape and non dockable. Carlos Martins Portugal www.cj.smugmug.com
  3. Hi Stefan, If you want to buy it online it will be hard to try it at the store
  4. I am sure it won't work, Please go and upgrade to a 30D. Try again with the microdrive. If it won't work, please go and upgrade to a 5D selling me the 30D real cheap Just kidding . The Microdrive does´t work up high. Carlos Martins Portugal www.cj.smugmug.com
  5. hum.. looks wider than 10 on a 1.6 sensor: vigneting would be slight if any, then maybe he's wearing a hood ? Anyway, awesome pics and scenery! Carlos Martins Portugal www.cj.smugmug.com
  6. Awesome pics! What are you using? Is it a 8 mm Peleng on a full frame body? Carlos Martins Portugal www.cj.smugmug.com
  7. An X-shut aluminium quick release could be used for that. I just received one yesterday, (stainless steel version - for mounting the stills) and that thing is tiny, very light and wonderfully built. It is unfortunately kind of expensive. www.x-shut.com An interface would have to be built to allow the Shumaker ringsight mount to be screwed with the nylon screws to the dettachable part of the X-shut. I feel the same need, specially to carry the helmet around without disaligning the sight or breaking the tiny nylon screws. (which are a pain in the ass to find this side of the Atlantic - Shumaker should produce a metric version of this mount) Carlos Martins Portugal www.cj.smugmug.com
  8. Hi, I like mine. Optically it's more than decent. And the price rocks!!! It doesn't have the auto-focus but if you set it for a little before infinity it will take sharp pictures from 1 m to infinity. Diaphragm is also manual so you will have to use it full manual (setting yourself the aperture and speed) or in Av setting aperture and letting the 300D decide speed. That's why I bought a Canon EF15 meanwhile - I think better results will show in Tv, setting speeds of 1/250 or faster and letting the camera chose the aperture. Haven't tried the EF15 to compare, yet. I've been busy trying to learn HD
  9. Never mind. I did exactly the same thing
  10. Can't help much there as I have the same problem. (I don't fly headdown). But I've learnt that if I can antecipate the surfer just a fraction of a second, I can transit from belly to sit fast enough to keep up with him on the intermediate board. Ideally, I'll learn to fly faster positions like headdown, and he will advance to a full size (slower) board. Carlos Martins Portugal www.cj.smugmug.com
  11. The problem with novices is that they are mighty fast when standing up because they are using small boards. So when they go from sit/belly/unstable to standing, they seam to disappear down the drain, and when they fall off standing they rocket up! It's funny, though I have arranged a strategy with my surfer (we are both novices). He warns me with a headshake that he is ready to manouver and I transit from sit to belly (or the opposite) just before he starts the manouver. It seems to be working... if he is somehow stable. When he is not I just stay out of the way and pray for him
  12. Mine arrived not long ago. Did about 20 jumps with it and it's great. Fits snug, very confortable and it's easy to put on/take off. Looks "unsnagable".It is indeed very lightweight. I think it's great value for the money. I ordered mine directly from Brasil and it arrived on schedule - smooth transaction. I ordered mine with a shutter release and a quick release mount for a stills camera but these turned out to be of much lesser quality than the helmet. (not worth it IMHO) Carlos Martins Portugal www.cj.smugmug.com
  13. Nice tandem photo!! The close-up really shows the 12.8 MP diff. Thanks! PS: Hey, I know that plane! Where is India Bravo flying now? here it is flying the Dakar in 2001: http://cj.smugmug.com/photos/4987564-L.jpg Carlos Martins Portugal www.cj.smugmug.com

  15. The lens is 28 mm (equiv.35mm). There's an wide angle adapter lens (don't know the conv. factor). Another aspect to consider is frame rate. I have no idea of how many fps this Ricoh makes ... but for someone not willing to go SLR it seems one of the few possibilities. Carlos Martins Portugal www.cj.smugmug.com
  16. Check this thread: http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=1941664;search_string=ricoh;#1941664 That Ricoh accepts an optional cable remote. You can then modify the remote to operate it with a blow, tongue or bite switch. Carlos Martins Portugal www.cj.smugmug.com
  17. I have to disagree... mine is now over 12.000 pics, most of them in very harsh environment. To put it lightly I don't treat it well.
  18. Stef, Thanks for your input. I use an SLR myself, but people keep asking me "can I fly my digi cam?". A lot of skydivers would be doing very nice pics if more compact digital cameras had the option of cable control like these Ricoh's... Thanks again! Carlos Martins Portugal www.cj.smugmug.com
  19. Hello Stef, Does the CA-1 cable operates as a simple shutter release? I mean, by shorting to pins of the USB conector you can fire the camera? Do you know if this aplies to the 5 MPix GX also? Thanks, Carlos PS: Helmut's main flap is open Carlos Martins Portugal www.cj.smugmug.com

  22. The file will be saved as a 3072x2048 pixels image or as a 2048x3072, depending on the said sensor. When you output the images out of the CF card they will show the right way on the screen. Wich is good. No need to rotate them in photoshop. Carlos Martins Portugal www.cj.smugmug.com
  23. REgardless of conditions, I think I have never closed mine to more than f8 - shooting in Av I'm always worried about the possibility of the camera choosing slower than 1/200. So once in a while (bright sunshine) I get overexposed shots but this because the fastest it can shoot is 1/4000. I only go above ISO 100 if it's already sunset. Good luck with the experiments! Carlos Martins Portugal www.cj.smugmug.com
  24. The EXIF on your file says you were shooting at ISO400. If there's light enough there's no reason to use anything other tahan ISO100. 1/1250 and F8 is quite narrow, it should not overexpose. It's possible to get crisp pics out of that lens! Blue Ones Carlos Carlos Martins Portugal www.cj.smugmug.com
  25. Thank you for your help. I think I'll go Canon! Blueones, Carlos Carlos Martins Portugal www.cj.smugmug.com
