  1. Bith of these cameras are useless for freeflying, ... Sony CX7's and 12's are a waste of money if freeflying is what you are after.s. This should be made a sticky on top of this forum. BTW, for us Euros CX7=CX6 and CX12=CX11. Carlos Martins Portugal www.cj.smugmug.com
  2. That's just brilliant!!!!!! (the pacifier idea!) Carlos Martins Portugal www.cj.smugmug.com
  3. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AwY5TErQu_s What they're saying in japanese is that it will be available in mid February and that price will be more than 2000 Euro and less than 2500 Really! I mean... not really but a NDA prevents me to tell you where I've learned japanese Carlos Martins Portugal www.cj.smugmug.com
  4. Isn't the CX12 prone to the "shaky shaky" image stabilization problems that the CX7 suffers from in sit fly and stand up??? Carlos Martins Portugal www.cj.smugmug.com
  5. ????? A good advantage of reed switches is that they are intrinsecally impervious to moisture. The disadvantage is that not many videographers have magnetic teeth or magnetic tongue? Carlos Martins Portugal www.cj.smugmug.com
  6. How long could that be? If it just steals a few frames from the 30 fps everytime you press the shutter, that coud be OK. Kept reading the comments on the blog and answering myself. Well, that would be our case Carlos Martins Portugal www.cj.smugmug.com
  7. Jesus! I've looked into this dude's LaForet video, making of and blog and I am stunned! The downsized framegrabs are amazing! Quoting the man himself: Sure, he used a nice array of lenses, but the result is amazing! Exciting times, that's for sure! Carlos Martins Portugal www.cj.smugmug.com
  8. How long could that be? If it just steals a few frames from the 30 fps everytime you press the shutter, that coud be OK. Anyway, I wonder what a 2MP screengrab from a SLR would look - this is all quite new and very exciting! I can't download the 200 MB sample files available on dpreview, but i'd sure like to see a few framegrabs! Not many people using autofocus while jumping (either video or stills) wright? ... What are the pros/cons of QuickTime MOV vs AVCHD of Sony's HD camcorders? Carlos Martins Portugal www.cj.smugmug.com
  9. I am all excited about this!!! Movie recording: • Available optionally during Live view mode • 1920 x 1080 (16:9) up to 12 mins (Quicktime 1080p H.264; 38.6 Mbits/sec) • 640 x 480 (4:3) up to 24 mins (Quicktime 480p H.264; 17.3 Mbits/sec) • Max file size 4 GB • Quicktime MOV format (H.264 video, PCM sound) • 30 fps Carlos Martins Portugal www.cj.smugmug.com
  10. Beware however, you'll find lots of references here to a certain CX6/CX7 that is not suitable a for freefly. Unless you accept a lot of shaking or you're willing to submit said camera to open heart surgery (voiding the warranty) Carlos Martins Portugal www.cj.smugmug.com
  11. Nice ones! Carlos Martins Portugal www.cj.smugmug.com
  12. Forgot to add: this CX6 on top of Rawa was tried with and without neoprene condom, to no avail. (I don't believe there's a solution other than glueing the optics... and kissing the warranty bybye on an electronic device worth almost a thousand €.) Carlos Martins Portugal www.cj.smugmug.com
  13. I've seen Rawa + CX6 on top: shaked like hell in sitfly. It's not a cosmetical/minor issue: footage was useless. It wouldn't work. Not even for debriefing purposes. Edited to add: we should move this to the CX6/7 discussion. Carlos Martins Portugal www.cj.smugmug.com
  14. Hi Remo, I can only help with the Portuguese part. E-mail me at carlospaixaomartins at gmail.com Carlos Martins Portugal www.cj.smugmug.com
  15. RTFM Page 74 He means "yes". "You can adjust the focus manually" Carlos Martins Portugal www.cj.smugmug.com
  16. The one thing I don't like in the X-shut is that you can't just attach the "cross" to your camera. You need to fabricate some sort of interface between the male part of the X-shut and your camera. And there goes the low profile advantage. I bought one and never mounted it. It's for sale, BTW Carlos Martins Portugal www.cj.smugmug.com
  17. Hypeye D PRO will plug into Sony's D shaped AV out port. AFAIK it will only work with Sony camcorders. What I mean is that A/V input (as Chris was looking for) is only needed if he intends to use the camcorder as a recorder. Carlos Martins Portugal www.cj.smugmug.com
  18. Chris, There's a slight confusion there. AV input would allow you to input Audio/Video (from a lipstick/bullet camera, for instance) into the camera and use it as a recorder. A LANC port would allow the use of a Cameye, but that is specific to some Sony's and a few Canons. Phil, I couldn't agree more with the sturdiness of the small Sony's workhorses. When one thinks in the complexity of tape trasnport mechanisms it's really amazing what they withstand. But my mini DV and the ones I see dying at my DZ are gone through tape transport problems. YMMV. Carlos Martins Portugal www.cj.smugmug.com
  19. Thanks for the research, I have exactly the same need and you prolly just sold me one of these. I don't want to deal with tapes anymore - (all mini DV cameras that I know end up dying of tape problems). I just need it for debriefing purposes and the ocasional tandem. Only real downside for me is the 1/6-inch, 680,000-pixel CCD. I would be willing to pay a grand or two more for something with a better lens/CCD combo but haven't found anything better with the characteristics you mention. 20. WOW! Incredibly nice! It would take me 50 years to build something alike! Well done. Carlos Martins Portugal www.cj.smugmug.com
  21. Sorry, nope. It's basic fiberglass/epoxi work. I suck at it and made it, so... anyone can
  22. Nothing special about it ? Pics of Cameye on my Rawa here: http://cj.smugmug.com/gallery/2549918_5VZU9 Carlos Martins Portugal www.cj.smugmug.com
  23. I like the Cookie Flatlock design and quality. Some pics of it on my Rawa here: http://cj.smugmug.com/gallery/2549918_5VZU9 Carlos Martins Portugal www.cj.smugmug.com
