  1. I wonder if he'll be allowed to visit the US next year?
  2. Thanks! I'm a cypres fan and I'm impressed they appear to expect their battery to last 12.5 years but man, if these things start conking out at 11 years or so due to a need for a new battery and therefore require RTB for a battery change and service they could at that stage become an instant economic write off (and completely unpredictability so at that).
  3. I still don't know what happens with the battery. Are they field replacable a la cypres 1 or will the unit need to go back to airtec when the battery one day tells you on startup that it's out of power.
  4. The pdf is silent on battery change. Anyone know what will happen - will it self test like a vigil and, if so, will the battery be field replacable like a cypres 1 or will that dictate return to cypres for a service/battery change? Or do they anticipate batteries lasting 12.5 years?
  5. See that rope lying on the ground? That was the beer line. He crossed it.
  6. Pack as you normally would and have a rigger gound deploy it in slow mo. If that doesn't disclose the issue, have someone video an opening or two. My money is on not enought bridle slack between pin and stowing the excess bridle but it could be almost anything without hands on the gear.
  7. Try Gary Stevens. Last I heard he was offering long term gear hire packages just as you're after. He posts on the uk gear for sale page on facebook quite a lot so that might be an easy place to contact him. Or try him at LPS.
  8. Wouldn't want to be accused of having small hands after all.
  9. Safest option: is it there? Is it square? Is it controllable? If not: get the fuck off it. There's a very limited amount of in air rigging that can successfully be achieved in an exceptionally limited set of circumstances. In time, there may be opportunities to incorporate some more outlandish thoughts into your responses to a wide variety of potential malfunctions but they're highly unlikely to be appropriate in anything but the most unusual of circumstances and are highly likely to involve their own risks in their deployment. Keep it simple.
  10. What?? Explain, please! There was a long time conspiracy believer (I hate calling them "theories") who preached long and hard about Sept 11 being a plot by the US (nanothermite, Jenga, ice blocks, nonexistent airplanes, all that shit) and also preached about the Rothchilds, Illuminati and a few of the other "world domination conspiracy" crap ideas (no aliens IIRC). He posted that he had bought a tent from WalMart, used it at a DZ for a while, then took it back for a full refund. He first claimed that he was justified in doing it because of WalMart's bad behavior. When told that it was still fraud and that "two wrongs don't make a right" he backtracked and blustered and it was generally hilarious. He got banned, came back a few times as a sockpuppet, got perma-banned, kept coming back, got his DZ IP addy banned, still came back. He seemed to think that it was a great accomplishment to create sockpuppet accounts and post on here. I guess he thinks that Sangrio and Dizzy dot are part of the "world domination." Edit to add: Wait a minute. You've been around longer than me. You should remember this... Fine, fine gentleman. Yeah, that's what he was. He was a member of my long list of blocked MAROONS... and as one parting shot when we still had email.... one of his sockpuppet names sent me an email that was so steeped in idiocy it gave me a huge laugh.... Imagine me as a member of the New World Order Bilderburger conspiracy.. WTF over..... I am thinking someone did not have a firm grip on reality. Last I heard he was working in Dubai.... and still running his mouth with the same idiocy. Let me guess.... JohnRich? Nope.... our intrepid Wal Mart tent returner... ...or the Jews did 9/11 theorist.. John and I always got along more or less unlike people like the ill named Peaceful dud.... etc Lol, I kinda miss Jeffrey... in a way. And John seemed a good enough guy if you could keep him on a skydiving topic. Didn't JR disappear because he er... How to put it? Put his speakers corner views a little too much into practice in real life?
  11. Wouldn't it be freaking hilarious if someone decided to follow these Trump rallies round and stand in the car park handing out to all his supporters neatly pressed brown shirts with something like 'go trump' across the back so that they can all look the part. Better even than a silent protest as I'd bet virtually none of them would even clock the significance.
  12. Whatever else you do, complete your undergraduate degree. Law degrees are highly respected and you can take it to virtually any profession. If you're already burnt out on law though, I would seriously reconsider entering the profession. Competition is exceptionally vigorous and there is a significant squeeze on all areas of law in the current austerity driven political climate. You really have to want to be in it or it really is not the career for you.
  13. The problem you're encountering is in relation to personal accident insurance, not third party liability insurance. You need third party liability insurance in order to skydive in the UK. The bpa membership includes this and you will be covered under that policy. You do not need personal accident insurance. It's an optional extra through a separate company which will pay out a certain defined sum in the event certain specified injuries are sustained. The vast majority of UK jumpers do not pay for this cover. If you want this cover you should probably look to extreme sports travel insurance from a company in your home country which offers cover for skydiving, including repatriation costs.
  14. She turned me into a newt. Did you get better?
  15. As amusing as that is, it really ought not be allowed under the election laws.
  16. Lotus is still struggling on, albeit under foreign ownership now. Seem to do alright in the US too. And Caterham, though I wouldn't be surprised if none of theirs are road legal in the US.
  17. My British car currently has burnt out resistors on the heater blower motor so I can either have full blast or nothing. Meh, that's basically all I ever used anyway. Oh, and the gearing on the flap which switches from hot to cold air has burnt out. Meh, I just take off an inspection hatch around May and flip it by hand to cool and then in September flip it back to hot. I would replace them but that means taking the whole of the front end of the car off again and it was such a pain in the arse last time I did it I'll leave it until I want to do another suspension upgrade. It's called character.
  18. A mans wife is brutally murdered by a serial killer and his son is left physically disabled. The son is then kidnapped and the dad has to track down and chase the kidnapper thousands of miles with the help of a mentally disabled woman. Finding Nemo
  19. Fashion in skydiving is largely related to colour schemes. Cut as well perhaps but that's driven by current thinking as to how to get the most out of the suit rather than fashion for fashion's sake. The jumpsuits people wear are worn for a reason. As a student you will be required to wear the dropzone's student jumpsuit. There are safety reasons for requiring this and it otherwise ensures their stuff gets dirty rather than yours. Once you're licenced you can, essentially, wear what the hell you want. There are significant performance gains to be had in wearing the correct clothing for the type of skydiving you're doing however. There are also safety issues which, while they can be managed, are only really completely removed by wearing the right suit for the job. You mention flapping T-shirts covering handles - that is a very real issue which must be considered. Hoodies and drawstrings can also be potential sources of difficulties. OK, people get away with tucking things in tightly but the best prevention is wearing a jumpsuit. You also mention fall rate - that too may be an issue. If you're an average sort of size and build then you may neutrally fly at the same fall rate as most others. If you're not then fall rate issues can be largely cured by wearing the right suit. What specifically about the 'fashion' are you worried about? Suits are custom made items - you can specify virtually everything about it.
  20. Booze and hookers for both of us then a round the world skydiving trip. After that probably a long sit down with a financial advisor.
  21. Been together over 7 years and I have no intention of ever getting married.
  22. ***Incorrect bridal routing "may" have cause the pin to pass through the eye loop on deployment. quote] Anyone care to speculate on how???
  23. Then be monogamous. There is no correct way, only the way that's good for you and those in your life.
  24. Love is not finite. If you have a child with your partner, you will love the child. You don't suddenly love your partner less though. There's not a bucket of love that you get to dole out in certain doses. You love them both. If you have a second child, you don't suddenly love the first one less as they have to accept now only a 1/3 share of the total amount of love you have to give. If you can love infinitely, why should that be any different with partners? If you love your partner, you want them to be happy and have awesome experiences in life. If getting their rocks off in a non-committal way with Mr or Mrs X will be an awesome experience for them, why would you not want them to have that awesome experience? Would you not also vicariously experience pleasure in their having a fun experience? You would if was a great day at a funfair. Why not when it's fucking? Would your partner not want you to have similar fun and vicariously experience personal pleasure in you having fun? They would if you were telling them about your day at the funfair. Why not when it's fucking? Sex is fun and there's plenty of love to go around for everyone without anyone being diminished. If everyone feels like that, then where's the harm with consensual non-monogamy? If someone in the relationship doesn't agree, fine there's the harm; stick to the rules and no cheating! I think there's far too much telling other people what they should or should not do and feel in this world. People should be free to make their own course in life and agree with the people in their life what is or is not permitted within and around their relationship without outside intervention from the world at large.
