radar detection - avoided volly ball nets - fatal

now there's an offer you can't refuse... a chauffeur ride to the DZ on a day you know you can jump AND talk with jump suit dealers. Half my club's planning to be there too so you could make some mates. I have to go to London again damnit or I'd join you there and drag you up in the air.

Tube Stows Who makes them and How do you tighten them
mr2mk1g replied to helldog's topic in Gear and Rigging
Sorry, your right, he does not say which stows are too loose. I inferred that he must be talking about the last few stows as I know that those are the ones that can be loose with tube stows. I would be amazed if small tube stows are too loose on the mouth locks because of the much larger number of lines above the cascade. I guess this thread could have been answered very quickly just by saying that there are detailed instructions on how to attach tube stows in a different way so that more of their length is used up in attaching them to the D-bag. -
Safer sub-terminal deployments question/pondering
mr2mk1g replied to jerry81's topic in Safety and Training
The main pin protection on my Wings never comes open on deployment: its not supposed to unless you pack wrong. The bridle will pull the pin out under the side of the flap and you only have to open the cover for packing. -
You'll get mixed advice on Tony vs Symbi... they're both popular and its basically down to personal preferance. (I went with symbi, I live with 2 other skydivers: one has a tony, the other another symbi). Take a look at the websites - symbi has an esp good one:Symbiosis Suits If you go to hinton, Floydi probably be there now weston is down for the winter (he was last weekend). If you decide on a symbi suit then the hinton shop is a dealer for them and Maddy there is very skilled at measuring you up correctly. Both are covered therefore. Also weather's supposed to be fine for jumping on sunday.

rounds are cheeper cos no one wants them (ok generalisation, but basically right) don't know about BASEing rounds - ask in the BASE forum... might be issues I don't know about. Other than that, big problems are that you cannot control the flight of a round as well as a square. You just jumped off a building/cliff etc and your now being pushed back into it.... bad juju. Also, BASE jumps are very often performed over a lot of hazzards (base of cliffs, rivers, roads etc) you are gonna land pretty much on whatever the wind decides under a round... you have far more control with a square and can hit that tight landing spot. If you can land safe, you can run from the cops... if you broke your ankle your gear, however cheap, is gone.

How many different type aircraft have you jumped from?
mr2mk1g replied to NightJumper's topic in The Bonfire
In order of appearance: Cessna 182 Cerokee Cessna 206 Islander SMG Finest Dornia 92 Turbolet 410 Turbine Islander Nomad Super Otter King Otter Skyvan Beaver New ones on the horizon include a ballon (which I was about to do but it was aborted due to wind), Cessna Grand Caravan, and DC3 when Im in the US next easter. I want to get in Shark Air while I'm there too and some day a Herc... ooo and a helicopter or two. All this and still less than 200 jumps. What can I say, I travel. Does anyone actually read other people's posts on a thred like this? or is it all about self glorification? -
Tube Stows Who makes them and How do you tighten them
mr2mk1g replied to helldog's topic in Gear and Rigging
ah - thats the mouth locking stows... those ARE important, but only so that your bag stays closed until deployment. The rest of the stows (ones which don't pass through grommets), have no impact on how your chute opens - they are just there to keep the lines neat. You could free - stow them if you like. The tube stows this question is about is those last few stows... so really its not an issue about how the chute opens, more one about keeping the lines neat. -
its gotta be Ivan... he's a post whore with 32 jumps isnt he?

Tube Stows Who makes them and How do you tighten them
mr2mk1g replied to helldog's topic in Gear and Rigging
I've seen you post that exact sentance 3 times now sundevil. Hope you have it somewhere where you can cut and paste if from. Nice ammount of patience... others would just say "do a search". -
it is available in the UK, first check with your home DZ, they will have either a shop or a second hand gear book or both. This is your first stop and best place to buy gear. Then there is the Mag, theres a clasifides section every issue, but this stuff shifts fast, esp things that is suitable for a first rig. There is not as much for sale in the UK as in the US so you can import but be real careful with customs... they may want to charge you tax on the new value of everything you bring in which can double the cost... v bad juju. Then again DZ's often have a system where if you ask arround you will find someone going to the US either to train as a team or on a jump holiday. The system works by you buying them beer/booze and they bring your rig back for you (just dont tell the tax man). The other prob with buying overseas is of course you cant jump it first to test it. This cant really be helped but you can at least have the seller send it to a rigger in the US for them to check out and agree its condition etc. The best way to buy seccond hand in the UK is through your DZ. They can help and work as a conduit for such transactions bringing together buyer and seller. Ask them first and be prepaired to wait a while - there is not a great turn over in the UK so good items come up slowly and dissapear fast.

In the UK being arrested in the grand scale of things, doesn’t mean a lot. Its more than simply "helping police with their enquires" - that’s a voluntary thing (although if you say no, the police will probably simply arrest you). When arrested you are kept in cells at the police station and they can question you for up to 24 hours. This can be extended by applying to senior officers at first then to a court, up to a maximum of 96 hours. They must then either be charged or released. Their detention must be continually assessed to see if they should still be under arrest or if they should be charged/released. The police only need "reasonable grounds" to arrest someone - this is quite easy. They need much more evidence to charge someone. A charge is far more serious. No one has been charged yet, not the first two or this third person. If we see a charge that means the police (or lawyers for the Crown) believe there is enough evidence to secure a conviction. Once charged they can no longer interview a person, so they must be sure they have enough evidence. In short: Arrest = not a lot of evidence but suspicion. Charge = enough evidence to secure a conviction (at least so the police think) (teach you to ask legally technical questions wont it)

They do have to be charged or realeased within 96 hours. They were only held for 53 then released.

D68 - Doug Peacock. Did my first jump course and a couple of my designated landings for my B licence. British national coach for years before being head hunted by the sultan of Brunei... still a national accuracy champion despite having hit 70, Great guy, great coach, still at the DZ every weekend and I treasure each of his signatures.

dracron are those bigg ass hairy lines you often see on student canopies or CRW rigs. Spectra are the "micro lines" those thin white ones most sport rigs have today. if you want a more technical answer I can't help

What the hell do you care if your soul is going to hell... you don't believe it'll exist... Is her soul going to go to Muslim hell because she doesn’t face Mecca when she prays? No religion should mess with the belief system of another... that includes atheism

Your nicest aircraft to (solo) exit from?
mr2mk1g replied to Erroll's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
13 different types, none as big as some of the ones you've jumped. Personal favourite has to be the skyvan. I took a grip on the bar underneath the tail and swung out of the plane so I was litterally hangning there being towed through the sky. Then just dropped off on the key given by my mate from the inside. Loads of fun. -
Its been related to me that it can be the cause of a baglock... I am nothing close to an authority on this mind so Im not really the one to ask. I've tried a bit of a search on hear but its a big topic to look into. I think its safe enough, afterall this sports all about risk management not risk elimination. (hell I use tubestows which a lot of people recomend against).
-
A lot of people recomend against wrapping your bands, regardless of type. It is usually suggested that you get smaller bands. Not my advice, just passing on others. Yeah, can anyone point to some info on superbands? not heard of them.
-
not sure if everyone or even many people will agree with your assesment there... but were all entitled to our opinions.

CrazyDave, the first two to be arrested have not been charged with anything. They were released without charge last month. They are now on police bail waiting for the CPS to confirm if anthing is gonna happen. This new arrest is a new person altogether, unconnected with the first two. Again, still no charges although this time he's been arrested on suspision of both murder and of criminal damage, which did not happen last time.

my reserve is bigger than my main at the mo by 6sq foot.... still cant find a damn 160R and I've flown a demo 176 - flys nice, so no worries landing it

Get some coaching on your fall rate first. You might actually be a very slow faller who has adopted a very fast falling position. It would be a big waste of money to buy a suit that slows you down when you really want one that speeds you up. I'll repeat: SEND NO MONEY NOW Yes suit design/material will make a big difference, but like I said, find out which way you want to go - faster or slower. Your fast arch position is the first thing that you need to change, not your clothing. Get your possition sorted first then get a suit to suit your fall rate (pun intended) Edit: oh yeah... and booties are a must if you want to do RW.
