Chill dude, he's just trying to look out for you. I hope you do the same for a low time jumper some day. Camera flying is not as simple as it may appear - its the difference between a fun jump and a jump that kills you in some cases... there's a reason why many countries wont let you jump a camera till you've done 200 jumps minimum.

I'm poor...Need advice from Pro's
mr2mk1g replied to sobertoday's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
better than just learning to pack, learn to pack and become a packer... that way going to the DZ is a way of making a bit of money and maybe you'll manage 6 or 10 jumps a month instead of just 3. -
buy an altimeter - its iligal to jump in many countries without one. Very few people chose to jump without one. buy an alti and use it

Id say too flexable. But Im not a camera flyer, I just know people like something ridgid to mount to, and the Evo aint.

I notice that bonehead makes a side mounting D-box for TRV series cameras. Would any one seriously consider side mounting one of these, or would it be a top mount only camera?

We always run things like this on a "you break it - you buy it" system. Its so common place that you don't even need to say it most times, its implyed in. (at least thats how it works in the circles I move in).

FAA only requires a rigger to observe you pack... doesnt say anything about you having to observe anything Thus this is all perfectly legal.

reserve extraction/inflation should it have worked?

No - your canopy's airspeed is constant when in level flight. Your canopy has 20mph forward speed, if you fly with wind of 10mph you will still have a forward air speed of 20mph, just you'll be covering the ground at 30mph. Imagine your canopy in a "column" of air. The "column" itself moving at 10mph, and you are moving at 20mph within the column. Your ground speed increases but your air speed (speed relative to the air through which you are moving) is still 20mph. -
What is the Best Quality camcorder and camara SLR?
mr2mk1g replied to paracapanas's topic in Photography and Video
Camcorder: You'll only be recomended Sony mini DV. The best are the PC series (at least for side mounting - TRV's go better on the top). Make sure it has an "M" series battery or it wont last as long as you'd like. SLR: you'll get more responses, but I've seen a lot of Cannon EOS's about. edit: is this a poll or are you asking for advice? -
yeah I just got 350.4 twice... must be a max. Shame, I thought if I got it far enough his head would get stuck up Rudolf's arse.

It was in the papers last week that a university is funding research here in the UK to find out what the air speed of an unladen swallow is. NO JOKE! I don't know if they are going to be researching the African or the European swallow though.

pretend there's porn stuck to the ceiling of the plane by the door. Look up at that spot and keep trying to look up at it as long as you can after you exit.

So far I have used mine as ID to: 1. Allow me to buy a new number plate (there wasnt a tick box for "skydiving licence" so they were unhappy accepting it but I talked them into putting it down as a "travel id"... well it allows me to travel up to altitude and back doesnt it? 2. Get into Chelmsford Prison last week on a legal visit. I hadnt taken any ID and would have been turned away if I handn't had my BPA licence in my car. So who else has made a none skydiving use of their card? Does a D-licence really entitle you to do enything you like?

How about teaching her to pack. Just borrow a rig, take it home and lay it out. Now go through a full packing lesson with her. Dont just say "now we count the cells" etc... tell her why you do each thing, and why each thing you do means you are eliminating a possible malfunction. Tell her about each malfunction and what causes them. Then (and this is the very important bit) tell her about how each malfunction is avoided by doing X Y or Z. You'll probably want to tailor this to your wife... only you know her. Telling her about mals may only make her worse. I have had gf's in the past on whom logic works wonders. The above is a way of tackling her fear through logic. On other gf's logic is quite simply lost, and trying to work through a problem would simply make it worse. You know your wife, we dont.

Congrats on the engagement. Make sure your family throws you a huge party to celebrate. I asked my ex-fiancee to marry me exactly 1 year to the minute (as near as I could figure it) after our first date. Figured that the timing of it was more important than the location in our case. We broke up about 2 years ago now, I'm sure you'll have better luck buddy. Edit: I asked her to keep the ring and she wears it on the other hand.

I was on a load with some static line students in England and watched a guy do his 3rd of 4th jump. A nice stable exit with a great, trouble free opening, not even any line twists. Next thing I see is he's cut away. I couldnt understand why as even I could see from the plane that his canopy was open and flying fine. I chat with him later while he's waiting for a debrief, I ask him what the problem had been. He says that after the canopy opened he went to look up at it to check it was big and square. There was something behind his head and he couldnt look up at the canopy. He figured it was ok, and it all felt normal but as he couldn't see the canopy to check it he thought he better cut away "just to be on the safe side". I couldn't quite grasp the logic myself... told him to talk to his instructor about it, muttered something about "well you're alive" and "its always the pilots choice" etc gave him a couple of tips about checking the length of his leg straps (under the pretext that it was always a problem for me) and left him to get talked to by his instructor.

I am a member of 2 at the mo. One charges £10/year, the other £30 for their 8 month season (military). Im about to join a third where I will have to pay £15/year (half price through my club so it should be £30 - again military). I don't begrudge them an anual fee... it all goes towards making it a nicer place to visit and allows them to put on more events throughout the year.

I demoed a PD176r loaded to 1.31:1. It flew great and was surprisingly nimble. It was packed to open in line twists and flew straight and level until I kicked out the twists at my leisure. The landing was great, with a flair just like I used on my Sabre of the time I came in with a short surf and soft touch down.
