Tony Blair (II): "The Labour partiy's policy is that the Chicken should be free to cross the road whenever it likes, free from tyranny, free from crime and free from the causes of crime". Michael Howard (leader of the opposition party in the UK): "In direct contrast to the Labour Party's hopless policy on this issue, the Conservative party believes that the Chicken should be free to cross the road whenever it likes, free from tyranny, free from crime and free from the causes of crime". Michelle off Big Brother (sorry): “Those Iraqi’s better keep away from my chicken… I can’t believe the Iraqi’s just looked at my chicken… Why did the Iraqi’s just move a little bit closer to my chicken? That’s hurting my feelings that there is, he’s my chicken… go get me a pot Emma I think I’m going to boil some bunnies”.

So you're saying there's going to be a major meteor hit in the next day or so and all the worlds governments know about it and have therefore sent their navies out to sea in the hope that they might ride out the resultant tidal waves... and that they don't plan on telling us... ok, well if you're right I'll send you one of the diddy doughnuts I bought for lunch.

England v Switzerland... starts at 5. The office is turning out early and heading down a bar. Guess that means the roads'll be clear for once.

hmmm.... plane trip to Montreal £585... £25 per lap dance saving... That means I only need to buy 24 lapdances to make a saving!

The jav owners manual says that javs are now tso-ed under C23-d and that they're rated to 300lb at 198mph. I found a page the other day saying that the new pd 99 was under tso C23-d as well @ 198mph but that appears to have dissapeard now. Are all new PD reserves rated to 198mph?
-
Oh they aint no men.... for £30 you get to see her lady bits

It's called a [drum roll] "fabric loop reserve handle". They already exist. Literally a loop of fabric velcro'ed into the pocket. Other options include a mini d-ring (just a low profile d-ring that sticks out far less) or a pillow surrounding a d-ring or plastic swadge (although these are mainly aimed at avoiding problems with pilows turning under the harnes).

Why "In-stitute"?

We don't tip in this country... Usual price round here (so I hear ) is £10 for a lap dance.

I shouldn't worry about the standard "go get more jumps" response. He's a UK jumper so cant jump camera till he has a minimum of 200 jumps and CCI approval. I think it makes sense to plan ahead and learn now so you're ready when it does come time to buy.

Remember that religious education in UK schools is a very multi faith affair. It focuses on comparative religion and includes teaching about all the main religions. It's also worth noting that most UK schools have a very broad religious attendance. Given the colonial imigration we've had here over the past century there are about as many other faiths in the country as their are practicing Christians. I don't think you could say the same about American schools. It's perhaps one reason why religious education is such a non-issue over here. Evolution didn't factor into the equation. It was simply a matter for the biology class as it's not considered to be anything to do with religion.

Oath for an atheists is "I do solemnly swear and affirm" as opposed to "I swear, by almighty God". There’s no legal distinction between the two types of evidence. No court papers that I can think of contain any religious references. It all seems perfectly logical to me. The number of jurors making the affirmation as opposed to the traditional oath reflects the amazingly low number of people in this country who consider themselves to be a “practicing Christian".

If you'd said "historically most powerful" or "most sucsessfull" or many other varitions I would have agreed with you. But "undefeted" is a massive claim that can only be made by countries who have nothing like the Naval provinence of Britain. Anyone who has fielded a navy as long as Britain will have suffered a defeat, somwhere. For an "undefeted" navy try the Swiss.

Ok, my bad everyone. I really didn't mean to kick off the whole evolution/creationism debate. I was mearly using that debate to illustrate the apparent conflict between the two concepts of seperating religion from public schools and having a pledge involving a religious reference. To me, having both is a contradiction in terms. Whilst I may not agree with the assertion that evolution = a religion, (to me it's merely science) I can at least understand the argument that it may be construed as such. If it directly contradicts and goes to the disproof of a religion, it may well be seen to put's itself into the "religion" bracket. I can therefore at least understand the reasoning behind restricting it's teaching, even if I do not agree with it. What I simply do not understand is how you can have that debate, but ignore the a debate about the religious content of the pledge? To me, the two concepts are ideologically linked - they are both about having religion in schools. Why aren't the people who compain about Darinism being taught also complaing about "under god" being in the pledge? Conceptually, they are the same thing. How can one be OK, but the other not?

Did you feel the Euro was a bit like monopoly money? I do. It kinda cheepens the whole concept for me.

By the fact that you're packing in accordance with the manufacturers instructions. Say you were packing someone elses rig and they had to cutaway and sue you as the packer. You didn't pack in accordance with the manufactureres instructions. You're suddenly a bad boy. Even though you know that doing it the other way round is at least equally, or even more safe.

I don't - just taking the lead from the "in god we trust" comments to hint at what would appear to be another double standard. It's not acceptable to teach Darwin's theories in US schools, as everyone's free to practice their own religion. To teach his theories, no matter how widely they are accepted in academia, would be to force a religion onto children. I can live with that rule - it's perfectly logical. However it is ok to ask children to pledge an oath under god... Again, I can live with that rule - so long as everyone's clear that Christianity is a state mandated religion. I just don't get how the two concepts are able to sit so happily side by side without clashing. One would seem to run contrary to the logic of the other.

Isn't it tested to TSO 23-C? (150mph) Aren't new PD-R's are tested to TSO 23-D? (200mph)
-
Yup - I'm British. I'm free to worship who I like even though my £10 note has Charles Darwin it.

My only question about the “under God” section of the oath is, do you not see it as creating a double standard? The US is supposed to be the land of the free – a place in the world where you are supposed to be able to do whatever you like so long as you’re not harming someone else. That is a very simple and admirable goal. So ok the, you live in the land of the free. You’re free to practice whatever religion you want. You’re even free to have no religion. Can we all agree on that much? Then you are required to swear an oath accepting deference to a deiity in which you do not believe. Does anyone else see a slight contradiction in those two positions? If you are free to not believe in God, why are you also required to acknowledge one? I don’t see that your religion should enter into the question; either there is a contradiction or there is not. Do you want to live in the land of the free or do you want to live in a country where you are told what you have to do? If you are forced to swear something can you truly say you are free?

A really graphic Picture Skydiving?
mr2mk1g replied to Kid_Icarus's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I've not seen this pic but even where the photo was taken in an emergency room, all there has to be is consent on behalf of the injured party - even after the fact. Hey-presto the photo can be freely circulated. I'd bet photo's are regularly taken to assist in operative and post operative care - probably even patient souvenirs. I'm sure a search on here might even turn up similar photographs. There are even people's x-rays and detailed studies of their skydiving inflicted wounds. Do they, their existence or their posting upset you? I'd hazard a guess that the real cause for complaint here is the way in which they were presented to you and the motives of the presenter; not their actual existence or their content. -
Nothing much - it's just that the Brits appear to cherish that fact a little more than the rest of Europe.
