The one I've almost always been party to is a dragging of the palms across one another, then a knock of the knuckles, then pointing at each other. I’ve been told that this is a mimic of your reserve drills...ie: "peal, punch, pull". But what do I know... I certainly wasn’t there at the inception, just what I’ve been told.

CBC view on political divisiveness in US media

What was the fallout of her troops to vietnam gaffe in the end? I never got to hear. -
Are you really more "free" if you live in the US?
mr2mk1g replied to Newbie's topic in Speakers Corner
hehe, no worries. I couldn't quite figure out why you appeared to be uncharacteristically confusing two sides of the argument – the erroneous “in” explains it all. -

I said that the pro gun lobby doesn't honestly believe that the US enjoys universally more freedoms than the rest of the world. You have said I am incorrect. I truly hope that statement is in fact correct because the cold facts are that the US does not enjoy universally more freedoms than the rest of the world. Several examples are cited above... hell I'm free to receive oral sex here if I like, without any fear of prosecution. Does the same hold true for all of the US? If they do actually believe the fallacy that the US enjoys universally more freedoms than the rest of the world, my estimation of them as a group would fall significantly. As to your arguments with regard to gun ownership freedoms I am not sure to what end they are made. This thread is not about whether or not the US enjoys more freedoms in relation to the ownership of firearms - without a doubt they do - but about freedoms in general. If the firearms lobby is worried about the further loss of freedoms within the US and can point to the previous loss of freedoms and trampling of others, how can they also honestly believe the US enjoys universally more freedoms than the rest of the world? That belief must be dishonestly held and simply put as it supports the overall goals of the gun rights lobby. I can see no other reason for the dichotomy beyond shear stupidity – stupidity I do not believe the group possesses. -
Thanks, that clears up the questions I had perfectly.

The pro gun rights link arises because suggesting that the US enjoys more freedoms than the rest of the world would support the argument that those countries who have no wish to arm their society have less rights in general, alluding to either the slippery slope argument or that those countries should not be seen as examples for the US by way of their un-American way of curtailing their citizens freedoms. In essence, my feeling is that "pro-gunners" don’t truly believe that the US enjoys universally more freedoms than the rest of the world – I don't think they're that stupid and give them far more credit. Rather I feel that they simply proffer the concept as it supports their ideology without any real faith in its voracity. They may therefore often be seen as the most vocal supporters of the misconception, although I doubt the belief is truly held. Whilst I fully disagree with the argument, I have difficulty in attacking the strategy itself, as it is essentially what I do for a living. -
Tandem gear failure at Dublin, GA last week
mr2mk1g replied to BillyVance's topic in Gear and Rigging
I don’t mean to incite a further argument… but I remember sitting in on a rigging lecture given by Rick Boardman on a windy DZ last year. He went through his “rigging box of horrors” and produced a set of links visually identical to those pictured under the paragear reference provided by Aggidave. Rick said that they were banned from use in the UK because they could be assembled without the screws in place resulting in a reserve that detaches on use. Now my memory of this lecture is fuzzy so I may well be wrong. I also seriously doubt the model show by Rick was the exact same as that used here or the manufacturer surely wouldn’t still be fitting them for fear of loosing all gear sales to the UK - I only mean that they are visually the same to my memory. Does anyone know if a similar item was indeed banned in the UK for this reason? Or is my memory playing tricks on me and it was actually a different reason the similar links were banned? -
It's apparently the SC-X105. It's been talked about at least a couple of times in the camera forum - there's a very short thread there are the moment on it. It's a tantalising glimpse of what's to come in the future... but I doubt there's any hope of it taking off right now.

...till you realise there's no lanc port, no firewire, you can't aford to film more than one jump at a time because the media's so damn expensive and it records in mpeg4 so it's a pain to edit. yeah... they hit the marketing nail on the head with that add.

I like Phree's suggestion of "In Pursuit of the Sport" Perhaps to include all those who die intending to carry out a BASE jump. Those who are climbing to the exit intending to BASE are in pursuit of their sport. Whilst they died outside the sport (climbing) they were pursuing BASE. I feel the same goes here - many would argue he died before he commenced his BASE attempt (I'd perhaps disagree here but, just for the sake of argument let’s assume its not a true BASE jump). I think there would be a strong argument for saying he died pursuing a BASE jump though, would their not? Thus you would have three strongly defined categories: deaths by way of a BASE jump, non-BASE jumping deaths of BASE jumpers, and finally those who died during the commission of an act which is more than merely preparatory towards the conduct of a BASE jump - "In Pursuit of the Sport". Those are my thoughts, for whatever they're worth.

now that's pretty cool

That would indeed be a lovely car - a nice rev3 mk2 turbo (although I'd take a t-bar hands down). 240bhp from a rwd, mid engine, two seater sports... that's fun wherever you're from.

Foreground is a mk1 - now gifted to my father background a nice t-bar mk2 - my current car.

man prices have gone up since I was over there last...

What about next time the US moans about someone else's human rights record and people all over the world say: "You do realize this is the US telling them about human rights short comings, yes?" That's not a particularly great boat to be in.

How do you "wank hands down"? Is this some new form of self pleasure I've not yet heard of? I was always led to believe one made use of your hands during wanking... by the way, couldn't find an answer I liked on the poll so I chose to take the piss instead.

I will often loosen my chest strap after doing a full control check etc. I do this with my hands in the toggles. I simply go into deep breaks for a while as I make the adjustments. So long as you know where your stall point is and you know you're not going to collapse your canopy, there's no reason why you shouldn't simply take your goggles off etc with your hands still in the toggles... and the likelihood of a collapse with hands a goggle height is next to none with the canopy you're probably on. Just remember to make sure both left and right hands are always at about the same height and if you’re in traffic number 1 consideration is traffic, not messing with gear.

I've told you - I'll look for a UK loophole so you can win your 2 cases of beer for the small and very reasonable fee of 4 cases of beer. Our Alaskan friend might just have provided you with a loophole you could slip though - simply find a state where it is possible for a woman to rape a man and present them with that - "there you go - you never said where it was impossible - just that it was impossible". Be anal with the wording of the rules.

Look at the location of the original poster. Consider what jurisdiction might apply there and consider if I might perhaps have provided the relevant legislation for that jurisdiction. Consider if the guy who posted actually gives a damn what the law is in Alaska. Still want me to look at the law again?

On a side note - I have a friend who has a microwave with a small TV screen in the front of it. Genius! It plays recipes while you cook.
