  1. What does he teach students to do if they enter their pattern so far out from the point that they should have done their patern is going to take them into hazzards? Presumably they're then to change their patern somehow by turning/breaking/flying away and re-entering the patern or something? What's his advice for that situation?
  2. Just a quicky... and I hold my hand up that this is picking up a throwaway comment and running with it... but, you say he's the best man for the job. Do you think he's the best man for the job, or the best man of the two you had to choose from? This isn't a trick and I don't intend to pass any further comment based on your answer, just honestly curious.
  3. They'll want proof that you have health insurance to cover you out there too though. This is also on the DZ paperwork (if you're going to kolomna as you indicate in your other thread). My home contents insurance covered my rigs no probs. They didn't have a problem with the rigs being out of the country. Standard travel insurance might also have a bolt on sports equipment cover although this might be an expensive way of doing it.
  4. I've heard the same reports - although to expand on the reports re Iraq; they are not saying that most Americans think the US should pull out; simply that more and more are concluding it was a dumb idea to go in or at least go in in the way that we did... so if you follow the line of the reports, "anti-war" doesn't necessarily mean "think the US should pull out", just that you're becoming more and more disenchanted with the whole situation.
  5. I'm concerned there's simply not enough repeat traffic on there to make it worth while. The vast majority of jumpers simply don’t sell kit often enough to be anything more than a transient blip on the classifieds. Thus there will be a huge number of listings there from people with no history to look at whatsoever. As such I wouldn't think twice about buying from someone with zero feedback and new account or I'd never find anything to buy. If this is the case any negative feedback will simply be lost as the offender simply registers himself as someone new. The only people it would really affect would be prolific sellers or dealers who screw with people... I think we probably do ok at warning people about that kind of dealer already.
  6. I stumbled across this last night in one of the old books on my shelves and thought I'd share it. It's shamelessly copied without permission and in full from "Escape to Danger" by Paul Brickhill and Conrad Norton... but at least I credit them. It's an accurate account of some amazing events involving an amazing man who truly was one of the best of 'The Few'. I hope you enjoy it. I feel it's certainly relevant to this forum... well, just. To set the scene, the author is a British fighter pilot writing of his time in the German prisoner of war camp, Stalag Luft III. These events took place in 1941 a few months before the US entry into the war.
  7. String him on with a story - tell him you've just had a business trip come up and you'll be able to deliver the money in cash if he likes. Seeing as you'll be passing through Lagos Airport he can meet you at the airport and you'll hand over the cash there and then. Only thing is you'll need a picture of him so you can find him in the arrivals lounge - it needs to be specific as you only have a short stop over before your connecting flight. Tell him to send a picture of him holding a sign with your firms name so you'll recognize him quickly. Your firms name is of course something like "phillmy krakin" or "Skydiving Rocks" or whatever you can come up with. Eager for your money the scammer will send a photo of himself holding said card. You can print out this photograph and laugh whenever you're having a hard day. You can even post it here for us to laugh at too. If you need supporting documents to assist you scam your would be scammer you can visit www.419eater.com and get some of their fake Lagos tickets you can fax your scammer as proof of your intended visit. There's a whole wealth of support there. Play with them, mess with their head, drive them mad - remember, all the time they're trying to get somewhere with you they're not spending time getting money out of little old ladies. But remember, only go down this route if you're sure they're not going to be able to trace you from the info they already have from you.
  8. I remember reading rebuttals on this sort of thing several times in the past. They claimed things like the sudden influx of aid killed off what domestic grain market there was and thus all the farmers went under. The next year round all those would be farmers were in the queue for free grain and no one at all was producing domestic grain. Plus there were stories about how we sent loads of tractors to help plough their fields so they could grow grain etc... then once the fuel ran out the tractor sat at the end of the field and rusted. I have no idea how much of them were true. I’m sure our initial attempts in the 80’s at mass aid projects were much like our attempts to help the victims of concentration camps during the first couple of days of liberation. They were fuelled by good ideas at the time which in hindsight were perhaps not as good as they could have been. I think the international aid community has learned from those past mistakes and I figure Live Aid 20 could possibly have a better effect than the original live aid simply because we are now doing things right. Then again wasn’t there a head line from last week from one of the UK papers listing the amount of aid we’d given to Africa over the last X years and the amount of money amassed by African dictators over the same period? One thing’s for sure; if we want the people to be brought out of poverty, something has to happen about the frightening levels of corruption on the continent. In summary, I think someone should shoot Mugabe... be the sniper Nigerian, British, American, Martian, I don’t think it matters... but someone needs to cap the guy.
  9. Did you have a chin cup with ratchets or an older design with chin strap?
  10. I've always heard it explained as preferable because there's less chance that the bridle will snag on the right flap as it pulls the pin creating a container lock and high speed mal.
  11. You're mixing up two sets of figures love. There's nothing on the Nationmaster site which casts any doubt on the figures given by Shropshire, which are from the very reputable Times newspaper... not a website... that's not to say they're right... just that there's nothing I can find to dispute them.
  12. I don't know you man, I'm sure you could be that 'clever' if you wanted to post like that. Many people on here do post word games to giggle about. As I don't know you I figured you could be doing that, it's now evident you weren't.
  13. I don’t think it was in the least bit stupid. Lets look at each line of the first post and see if similar comments were made about the US elections. You don’t have to agree with the comments, just acknowledge that some people felt like that. He first mentions grief and sadness. Do I have to go any further than www.weresorry.com ? Next he wonders if Iran will ever be free. There’s many on here that complain that all the new security measures being brought in by the current administration are strangling US freedoms. There are often quotes on here about the insanity of giving up freedoms in order to save freedoms. Then he laments the fact that Iran is filled with intelligent and educated people they elect an idiot. Now I don’t know GWB so I am most certainly not casting aspersions on his intelligence but you must admit that it is the most criticized element of personality... hell he’s famous for it. Next he states the president elect is know as a hard-liner, as is Bush. He points to fact that Iran is seen as more free than other similar nations in just the way American’s view themselves. He then states “it’s crazy to think Iran just had an election where both candidates were horrible”… now really… do you I actually have to draw the comparison there? However you look at the candidates in the most recent US election you again have to acknowledge that this is what a massive proportion of the US was saying about them. Hell, both campaigns were run on the premise of ‘anyone but the other guy’. Now of course the US is most certainly NOT anything like Iran… it just struck me as most incredibly odd that the first poster seemed to be picking out the ONLY things that were the same (at least to some people) between the two countries. At first I took the post to actually be a post disguised to poke fun at the US by craftily highlighting the similarities between the two countries whilst hiding behind an overt lament for the situation in Iran… then I realized the poster probably wasn’t trying to be that clever and was simply genuinely mourning for Iran.
  14. I figure one of these is going to survive a terminal impact well enough for you to get the data off it. Who cares what happens to it after that. Ought to make for some interesting footage.
  15. Similar posts were made about the US after you guys put Bush back in power. They voted him in - it was their call. Evidently 40% of Iran agreed with you... but that wasn't enough to carry the election. That's was democracy's all about.
  16. Soul eating's funny. Pointing your gun at some kid and shouting just doesn't have me laughing.
  17. Just got back from there last week. Met plastic out there too - Hi plastic. Great DZ - ask specific questions and I'll post specific questions... plastic covered most of the general stuff. edit to add: I'll see if I can't post a few pics some time. Plastic, PM me an address post you a CD of the pic's I took of your team... they're a bit big to send electronically.
  18. It's useful to note that at P49 of the manual the pictures actually show the bag in the orientation you list third in your poll!! (grommet to reserve tray) So apparently all three are fine... I think?? Reminds me of the Javelin packing manual which says close the flaps left-right then shows a picture of them closed right-left (or vice-versa, I forget).
  19. here's mine... a Pac 750xl... you can even see me in the nose cone
  20. Out of the 20 I only count 11 actual homicides...
  21. Go burn a flag you America hater ha - they weren't involved with it for more than a few months... ya know they needed much longer than that to learn anything from it. They were in Nam for 10 years and still didn't pick up any lessons. Just leg pulling all of you.
  22. I can't believe no one gave the obvious answer: "Bush". (sorry I'm late to the thread guys - I watched the race live in a sports bar near Moscow ).
  23. I recall lots of dead Protestants and Catholics from modern times.
  24. Did you peal your cutaway pad before trying to pull it or were you just pulling on it with the Velcro still attached? Perhaps thinking of whether or not the pad was hanging free of the harness after the incident will help you remember which happened.
