  1. When the curved pin was first invented all rig closed with the bridle coming out the bottom. It is more direct with less chance of problems. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  2. Boy have you got a lot to learn. OP brought up some very valid points. And if you take the time to read it he talking about people “pushing the envelope” as you call it before they have the experience or the skill set. I believe he is talking about jumpers getting bored and doing stupid shit. Spend some time reading the fatality data base and get a realistic prospective of this sport that isn’t golf. 6. The picture is a screen capture after the TI left the plane in a linked head down flower exit with the videographer (also a TI). They held the linked exit until it stabilized head down, then they released and the TI held the head down orientation on his own. This occurred on a USPA Dropzone, the jump was made by a USPA TI, and there is a USPA and UPT T/E full time on the drop zone. Like I said, those of you that enjoy working in this industry as tandem instructors may want to consider earning your AFF or S/L rating, because it will only take one TI out there flying for himself and not the passenger to bring our national tandem industry to a screeching halt. Since it appears you know who this TI is have you taken any steps to notify USPA and UPT of the situation? If not why? After all we are supposed to be self policing. 7. Is this what you are talking about? http://i397.photobucket.com/albums/pp55/mjosparky/Skydiving/RW-6.jpg They were produced in the early 80’s as a replacement for a batch of harness rings that were not heat treated properly. They were only manufactured for a short time. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  8. Never, I repeat, never cutaway a good canopy. If there is a collision and a wrap that good canopy may be the only canopy out for the rest of your trip. Do some research; more than one jumper has died behind a low reserve pull after clearing a wrap without an RSL. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  9. With a seven cell you will have to flair a little higher than with a 9 cell. You have less aspect ratio and the canopy takes longer to react. There is no way to explain to when to flair but you flair should a continuous stroke from full flight all the way to arm extension. Start at about 10 or 12 feet and work from there. 11. Since you have never made a skydive maybe you should go back to your virtual SCUBA site. http://www.ediving.us/home.php Or maybe the wantabe pilot site. http://www.liveatc.net/forums/pilotcontroller-forum/?wap2 Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  12. And I guess the point I am try to make is until we can weed out those TI’s that do not take their responsibility as serious as you do the Y-mod offers the student passenger an added measure of safety. It may be a band aid but Strong thought it was important enough to make it mandatory. The tandem passenger is the “cash cow” of the sport and the sport owes it to them to use every method available to ensure they have a safe jump. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

  15. I didn’t put works in your mouth, I asked you a question that you side stepped. While you are dealing with the “root cause” why not use a safety device that is available? Refusing to use it means you feel you will never make a mistake or miss something on a gear check. What are you going to do if it is made mandatory? What will you do if it is left optional? 17. I am against bandaids. What's next? Harnesses that compensate for instructors who forget their top hooks? So you would rather see tandem students put at risk than see use of the y-mod? Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  18. I agree with you on this. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

  20. That would be the same as a jumper using a rig with a 14 inch MLW when they should have an 18 inch MLW. The difference is the experienced jumper knows something isn’t right, the tandem student doesn’t. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  21. Because it is not necessary. If the instructor adjusts the harness properly it is simply not necessary. The Y-mods only purpose is to keep passengers safe from shit instructors. I personally feel that the Y-mod no Y-mod debate has over shadowed the fact that there is a lot of poorly trained instructors out there. So what is a bigger concern to you. People that jump with out the Y-mod or people that need the Y-mod to jump safely? As long you have instructors strapping passengers into rigs you will instructors that do it wrong. If they all did it right all the time we wouldn’t be having this conversation. My biggest concern is for the safety of the passenger and making the Y-mod mandatory just might make the difference when needed. Are you against its use? If so why? 23. Did you read the whole report? There are several issues that were brought out. To me one of the biggest problems with Aviacom is their arrogance and trying to blame others for their shortcomings. Aviacom is the source of the 2 documents below. Any business that would post something like that should be banned on that alone.
