  1. Eric, You are one tough son of a bitch. You have come this far, no one can stop you now. Michael My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  2. If you have fxc 12000 in service on gear, they must be tested in a fxc chamber. With the FAA's new stance on AAD's you must follow the manufactures requirements. I have never seen a homemade chamber that has a rate of decent reading much less one that is adjustable. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  3. So when drop-testing for category "B", (unlimited), what weight and airspeed do you use for the test? I believe it is a combination of airspeed and load to equal 5,000 lb. Low speed is 3,000 lb. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  4. If you just moved to CO, you have to consider that your openings will at a much higher altitude adding more stress on the container/canopy. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

  9. When "God" - i.e. an AFF I - tells them they'll be just fine under something they'd load at 1.2 at 20 jumps, why would they listen to some chick at the gear store? Sell him the damn canopy, he will be out of you hair in 2 weeks, 3 tops. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  10. Most skydives don't have a clue as to what makes their reserve work so being a jumper would not make them a better rigger. I agree. The lack of understanding (of gear) that many jumpers exhibit is scary. It's apples and oranges. It does make you wounder if they have the same lack of knowlege with everything they do. 11. I made a few jumps on one, the 245, and thought it sucked big time. Same sq. ft. as the sharpchuter but different aspect ratio. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  12. How many different accounts do you have on DZ.com? http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/faq/smartfaq.cgi?answer=1057949469&id=1036010317 My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  13. I thought some of them were jumping Sharpchuters, very stable. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  14. I know several riggers, senior & master, that have forgotten more about how parachutes are made, what makes them work and understanding of their importance than most skydivers with ever know. And they have never stepped out of a plane. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

  17. What special tools does a rigger need to pack a round reserve? Do you have any idea how a round reserve is packed? >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Packing table with a hook on one end tension board shot bags line separator Bromocreasol green special clamps for tensile testing fish scale (recently re-calibrated), etc. Yes, it is possible to pack a round canopy on the floor, but my knees and back told me to quit that years ago. Fewer and fewer lofts stock these tools any more while fewer and fewer riggers CARE about round reserves any more. We are already at the point where the only riggers who will touch round reserves are a handful of grumpy old gray-beards. Except for the table, those are things I would think every rigger should have in his kit. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

  21. As a master rigger, I'm grateful for your vote of confidence, but I'm still bound by FAR 105.43, which requires me to use an approved (meaning TSO'd) harness and an approved (TSO'd) reserve. An exact copy of a TSO'd item is not TSO'd, since the TSO involves quality control (materials tracking and testing), as well as manufacture itself. If I wanted to jump a harness/container I made myself, I'd have to obtain my own TSO, even if I copied my favorite rig. No rigger rating is required to obtain a TSO. Your main is not TSO'd, and anybody can make a main parachute of any sort (bedsheet and four clotheslines as an extreme example) without FAA approval. Anybody can jump that main parachute, but there are rules about who can alter it. Mark Until you get your TSO on your copy of your favorite rig it is legal for you to jump it. 22. In the US a master rigger can build and jump anything he wants. But he is the only one who can jump what he makes. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  23. QuoteRoger that, I suspected it had to do with the increased friction of the non-stainless hardware...It's an interesting point, but do you really think that there is THAT much more force on the locking loop with stainless? I wonder if anyone that has any numbers on the comparison. ***You can bet that Bill Booth has the numbers, he does not do things on a whim. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
