It’s getting better but still sucks. Out of 50 fatalities in 2012, 21 or 42 percent were under good canopies. Sad. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

I just noticed that the subject line for this tread referrers to a “Skydiving employee”. I would guess that he files his taxes with a 1099 not a W2. But then if someone tells you when to be at work and what to do when you are there you are not an “independent contractor” but an employee. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

THIS Jim Slayton? http://jimslaton.com/ http://about.me/slaton Looks to me like Jim has listed his skydiving resume ~ highlighting some rather interesting & outstanding accomplishments as a promotional & marking tool. It's called advertising...yes is self-promoting and no there's nothing about it that makes him an 'ahole'. It ain't braggin' if ya really done it! Rangers Lead The Way I remember him for a few years ago. I sold him some old F-111 canopies for his ground launch school he was starting up. Haven’t heard anything about lately. Years ago I was involved in testing done by a well known government agency. They wired us for sound, heart rate, respirations, pupil dilation and a bunch of other shit. What they determined was that experienced jumpers shows the greatest signs of stress at pull time. The next down the list was at take off. I told them their data was all fucked up….I started getting scared when I drove onto the DZ and stayed that way until the beer light came on. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

Nope, you're about 6 times more likely to get killed jumping than in a car wreck. Sorry. Hmm.. this source says otherwise: http://www.medicine.ox.ac.uk/bandolier/booth/Risk/sports.html Cycling, running, and swimming are all more dangerous than skydiving, but are less dangerous than being in an automobile, according to the data. The data on that site is useless. It compares swimming in Germany, hang gliding in the UK and skydiving in the US. That’s like apples and rocks. Oh and it doesn’t give any data on dying in a car wreck. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

Vented ram air canopies came about years before BASE. Para Fite’s first canopies had vents in the mid 70’s. Sparky ..................................................................... Supposedly Para-Flite's - bottom skin - vents were to "soften" cells, to reduce toggle pressure, when accuracy competitors hung in deep brakes. OTOH vents in modern BASE canopies are to speed inflation at the bottom edge of the envelope. It’s not the first time someone’s idea was used in a different application. Edited to add: 91.13 Careless or reckless operation. (a) Aircraft operations for the purpose of air navigation. No person may operate an aircraft in a careless or reckless manner so as to endanger the life or property of another. (b) Aircraft operations other than for the purpose of air navigation. No person may operate an aircraft, other than for the purpose of air navigation, on any part of the surface of an airport used by aircraft for air commerce (including areas used by those aircraft for receiving or discharging persons or cargo), in a careless or reckless manner so as to endanger the life or property of another. Some of us have been saying this for years and all we heard was we were yelling wolf. The FAA is like the Gestapo…they can do just about anything they want to. Part of the reason is that the FAR’s are regulations not statute law. I may have missed it, do we know how he was notified. He should have been notified by Certified mail – Return receipt requested. It should state what his offence is and give him a date by which he needs to appeal. Do you think it is a good idea to defend a case that appears to be indefensible? Now that tandems are covered under FAR’s they may try to use Part 91.13 as a catch all. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

I was told by a reliable source that the FAA has two catch-all charges, Careless operation and Reckless operation. With these two charges they do not have to directly site an FAR, but rather just state that safe operating procedures were not followed. As for dropping things from a plane, I spent over 20 years dropping test items out of planes. Many of them because of the FAA. They stopped Bob Hover from flying; they can do just about anything they want. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

SOMEONE collected the data on tail strikes. SOMEONE omitted to find out (or failed to report) the detail that would actually make their case. One wonders why that was. Wouldn't it be great if this is how evidence actually worked? I mean I could go into court and say "The boogie man told me Johnny was selling drugs and that why I stopped him and violated his 4th admendment rights your Honor." That’s quite a reach. You of all people should be able to see the difference between evidence gathered to be submitted in a court of law and a list someone put together to post in a public forum on the net. Most, but not all pull outs are set this way. Please check Next manual page 25 picture 38. http://www.paratec.de/wp-content/uploads/2010/06/2010-02-24-NEXT-Sport-Owners-manual-issue-02-2010_email.pdf I love the way they say their style of pull out has less pack volume the other kind. They have got to be kidding. Any volume difference would have to be measured in sq. millimeters. Pack volume is greatly reduced, since it gets by with just one piece of tape unlike the more complex construction of a base Pull-Out-System requiring T4 tapes and grommets. I have always thought that a pull out just adds one more layer of complexity and one more thing to get wrong. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

Don’t be in such a hurry to win the Nationals. You got 20+ jumps…go jump out a perfectly good airplane and enjoy. Skydiving is a recreational activity for most not a job.
