Since you only have 2 jumps, it would be hard to explain it so you would understand.

Why does dacron make more sense for casades than othe line? How would continuous lines made of dacron cut the damping effect by 1/2? Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

It sounds good, but do you have any idea what is involve in going to 130,000? I was involve with the TAME program, a 130,000 ft. attempt. It was put together by Joe Crotwell who owns AERO. We had NASA on board, and funding from FOX studios. Joe Kittinger was on the board along with Yeager. The first primary was a stunt man who claimed more experience then he had and after 30 training jumps on spin recovery and fly unusual positions it was decided to replace him. The next primary was a Navy test jumper with several thousand jump. It turned out he had a substance abuse problem and after jumping through hoops for almost 2 years, FOX pulled their funding. Kittinger's jump was not freefall, but drouge assisted and if it wasn't for the AAD he would have gone in. Both the TAME program and Stearns' attempt were/are planed for freefall. Without some form G induced spin recovery system, I don't think it can be done and survive. At that altitude and moderate turn of less than 90 degrees will produce an unrecoverable spin. As we saw in a recent fatality, that within 2 to 3 seconds and less then 3 or 4 revolutions a person can be in G-loc. If the spin becomes fast enough I think the suit will fail and thats that. jmo Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

We took 22. On this one you could get to the bomb bay from the back compartment by climbing over a bulkhead about 5 feet high. The bomb bay door were locked open. Some people exited through the crew hatch just behind the nose gear, three rode up in the bomb bay and the rest came over the back bulkhead. On my first jump I was part of the group in the back compartment and on the second one I was in the bomb bay. You had to straddle it, one foot one each side and hang onto the bombracks. On take off it was scary as hell. Out of 22 we got six people together on the first jump and only 3 on the second. It was a ZOO. But fun. BSR for canopy loading (from low turn incident thread)
mjosparky replied to billvon's topic in Safety and Training
I actually do. I've bore witness to many accidents that were never filed with the USPA over my 8 years in the sport. You have 6, I'd assume by now you've been exposed to the same amount of stuff that I have. I'd be extremely surprised if every accident you'd ever heard of or knew about was reported. No, I was actually there. I've also jumped at a number of dz's over the years and EVERY ONE of them didn't always file incident reports for injuries. If you were there and saw them, then they weren't unseen and unreported, were they? You are busting everyone ass because you say there is not data to support it. Then you come up with statements like this. Thats not data, thats just you standing around watching again. Can you give me the dates, times, age, gender, canopy type, experience and cause of death on these "No, I was actually there" incidents you are so proud of. I can give you chapter and verse on 11 fatalities that I did the investigation. I can show you pictures of the scene and see if you can keep your dinner down. And you have the gaul to say there is no data to support this program. Your behavior reminds me of a spoiled brat stomping her feet and yelling "me, me, me". Bill, Derek, and the others that have and are putting so much time and effort into this thing, I wish you luck. It like talking with Moe, Larry and Curly. QuoteIn Europe this is certainly NOT the case. My recollection is that in Europe age and gender are also the biggest influences on driving accident rates. Maybe someone that has been there more recently than me can confirm or refute. Besides, how do you explain the gender part? *** What is you point? This is not Europe so what is there to confirm or refute? What gender part do you mean? The original post was taking about experience driving and said nothing about gender. Rather than take misguided potshots at everything posted, state the specifics of what it is you disagree with. Its hard to "explain the gender part" without knowing what you mean. How many of them would have been affected by the proposal? Were they ALL inexperienced people with high WL? THAT is the critical question. I'll tell you what, I came up with the overall percentages, how about you come up with a break down of experience level. You should get total jump numbers, jumps on canopy involved, total time in sport and time jumping canopy involved. Let us know what you find. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals -
I have a few Sharpchuters with over a 1000 jumps on them with dacron lines and are still in trim. The F-111 material goes away before the line trim does. I will usually replace the lower controll lines at about 400 to 500 jumps because of wear. I often wonder how many canopy pilots can really tell the difference in speed with different line sets. So the owner would pay to have it done right the second time if it wasn't done right the first time? What would be the best way for a new jumper, with around 20 or 30 jumps, to supervise me as I modify his Mirage? Would he recognize a job done right? Mark Because you have earned a riggers ticket, the FAA says you no longer need to rig "under supervision". Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

BSR for canopy loading (from low turn incident thread)

The smart thing for you to do at this stage is to have this guy fill out an "incident form" now for future use. Would save you a lot of trouble later. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals -

No, there are no numbers, and Bob Zinn is head Peckerhead. He and Joe Crotwell started it. I believe the meat, not meet, is going to be a Cal. City this year. I have been a judge for the last several years and we are not allowed to divulge what bribes we receive or who gave them. But it is a good bet the winning team came up with some good shit. You are welcome, Sparky Oh, that not a medallion, its a coin, as in Peckerhead Coin. Very rare, coveted the world over.

Parachutes for Airplanes: 18 Lives Saved in 2004
mjosparky replied to JohnRich's topic in The Bonfire
Jim was not testing the recovery chute at the time. He was testing a small, I believe 12' canopy for a military contract. He had tested the recovery chute the week before and it was in the plane but not repacked. And you are right, he did get out but at about 200'. Sad. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals -
That all depends on how far it fell out of the plane. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

BSR for canopy loading (from low turn incident thread)
mjosparky replied to billvon's topic in Safety and Training
Nathaniel, If you remember, we had this very discussion in some other posts. You come across as a first year student of "reason & logic". But as I mentioned before, this is the real world we are dealing with. The neat and tidy solutions you are taught in class sometimes need to be "tweeked" when it come to solving a real problem. This is not the place to argue just because you feel you are good at. You seen to be fairly intelligent so you should be able to come up with something specific to contribute. You say we need a study, well here is a chance for you to make an impact on the outcome of this program. You should be able to have that completed by the next USPA board meeting. If you feel a study is needed to determine something needs to be done and done soon, you are not paying attention. 2003 50% of fatalities in the US were under good canopies. 2004 40% of fatalities in the us were under good canopies. Show us the logic and reason in that! Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals -
Anyone recongize these old Idaho jumpers?

John Stubblefield is a name I haven't heard in a long time. I was a Firefighter in San Bernardino. He and his Dad did quite a bit of development there. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals -
Yep that's exactly what happend.. when they found his main that is what the toggle looked like but in the pic. they did a renactment of what it originally looked like. Then it was not a "Tension knot" but a simple packing error. Little things can kill you in this sport. Attention to detail can keep you alive. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

And remember, thats just your opinion. And now your name is in lights along with the rest of us "non-representative" skydivers. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
