How do you allow for the difference? >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> I can understand his logic. Older rigs have already been subjected to plenty of wear and tear and are more likely to develop problems: loose grommets, popped stitching, frayed webbing, etc. An analogy would be with an automobile. You can probably drive a new car - for three years - without maintenance. Then you have to start replacing tires, brakes, mufflers, etc. My point is how would you go about setting up a program to cover this? The FAA has problems writing rules for all rigs at the same, something like this would be a nightmare in their hands. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

The FAA has no requirement to exit or open by a given altitude. The 2000 foot pack opening is a USPA BSR only. Yes, but isn't it FAI that certifies the record? No, FAI does not have a "most in 24 hr." category. It is in the Guinness Book Of World Records. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals -
They do it with very specialized equipment and training. http://www.paraflite.com/Personnel%20Ram%20Air%20Systems.htm http://www.paraflite.com/Parachutist%20Oxygen%20Systems.htm My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

You right, it is simple: There are 2 things that you must do on each skydive in order to survive. One is to deploy a landable canopy and two is the land that canopy safely. It does not matter how many points you turned or how long your swoop was. If you do not perform these 2 tasks it is safe to say you will not survive. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

Hell, you can't even get support for your views for the type of jumping you claim to represent. Come back and run your mouth if you last 10 years. Until then you are just a tourist. Jeanne, Don't you just love it when they call you Sweetie? (and misspell it at that) You will have to excuse him, 2 years and 300 jumps and he has it all figured out. Just wish he wouldn't list his profession as FF/PM, it reflects poorly on the rest of us have earned our living severing others. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

That is an excellent point. I don’t see the FAA making changes to take this factor into account but it is only common sense. More jumps equal more exposure to possible problems and more wear and tear. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

As Jim said there are many factors. One is where the weight is located. This is a picture of a 600 sq. ft. commercially made flag with only 18 pounds. The 3 areas marked by the red lines are 6 pounds each. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

So not under canopy, huh? Pity. Not sure how you would stay 'upwind' of it anyway...Ever see a tandem instructor try and stay clean under canopy when a student barfs? ltdiver Can you say "chink, chink"? My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals -

Now thats impressive. I bet it came on a stone tablet. -
When I deploy I make a decision on the canopy really quick. If I can land it safely I do, if I don’t think I can land it safely it is gone. My decision altitude is at the same altitude I look up and as “ah shit”. I do not do rigging in the air. As a rule ram air canopy malfunctions will do nothing but get worse. Very little you do in the air is going to change that. You score no points for riding a function an extra 1000 feet and you may trash the canopy by doing so. I agree, I just know the one time I was going to take a PFD the good folks at TSA said no way. I shipped them next day air to CSS and got them when I got there. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

Jay does indeed start his jumping near sunset. He also has a complete gear checking crew... medical staff that accompanies him on he plane (checking vitals and much more). Like a previous post said, it is difficult to imagine what goes into this. If it can be done, Jay will "Get 'R Done!" (Sorry, I just couldn't resist that one) You are right; if anyone can do it it will be Jay. But when he did 534 jumps he started at 8:00 AM. He had a rigger on the plane with to do gear check before exit and all rigs were checked by 3 riggers before he put them on. There were no medical personal on board but he did have O2 to puff on, especially at night. He drank a special drink to help with electrolyte balance and when he was done would piss in the bottle during climb. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals -

The section right above your quote says: "TSA Security Screeners must visibly ensure that the cylinder is completely empty and that there are no prohibited items inside." In 2003 when I flew to east to do the Kitty Hawk demo they were real spooked about any compressed cylinders. I guess it is all about who you talk to and when you talk to them.
