What kind and size of reserve? What was your exit weight at the time? I have had several terminal reserve opening, but only one on a ram air. Most were round test canopies. On a couple I got some bruises and I was a little sore the next day. The worst I have had was on a PD-230. I was wearing a large heavy camera helmet, deployed about 4,000 and it was instant canopy. My chin hit my chest and broke my sternum, and two ribs. Looked up and the canopy was all blown to shit. Had to chop and open the reserve. I am lucky the second deployment was not terminal. Did you have your back looked at the time? If not now might be a good time. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

They will be really used and unable to take a ram air canopy. Rigs that were TSO's for a round will normally have a different riser configuration then one TSO's for a ram air. Readily available, I doubt it. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

I think you are thinking too much. Try not to over complicate it so much. I know that at your stage things can seem overwhelming but practice the EP's you were taught. Trust me on this; you will not be able to cut through your reserve risers if it malfunctions. By the time you get it out you are already going to be low and your time would be better spent trying to fight what you have and if nothing else works toss the main. Get as much above your head as possible. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

metal reserve handles Vs Pillows, Opinions?

How soon would you like that to happen? My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals -
Reserves are F-111 7 canopies. Not very HP even though some people load them to the point they are scary. Almost all rigs made today are not designed to take a round. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

At 17 jumps I doubt that head down and BM are an issue. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

I think you might want to start over on your poll. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

Did you see the post above yours? Call Sun Path, they will probably have a vague idea. The manufacture is always your best source of information.

Run this statement through search and see how many hits you get. It goes along with, "I can handle it" and "I know what I am doing". I wish you luck and try to be careful. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

You have 40 jumps and you are already talking about going from 1.24:1 to 1.38:1. How many jumps do you plan on making by next season? Take the money you would spend on a 170 and buy a newer reserve. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

Hell she grew up with Bill as her Dad something like a nasty letter would be small change. If I remember right, too many dead brain cells, her name was Teresa and she ran the SCR/SCS program for a number of years. She was a real good kid.

metal reserve handles Vs Pillows, Opinions?

Obviously you've never seen my jumpsuit. Excuse the presence of my skysurf board. I bet that suit caused you some fall rate problems. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals -
metal reserve handles Vs Pillows, Opinions?

One is on the left side the other is on the right side. Hard to mix that up. Do you think that was the fault of the handles or an inexperienced student getting confused over right and left? My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals -
It all good.

Excellent advice and deserves repeating. There is a good reason by the two versions of AAD have different parameters. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

Well, that could be considered a new-style of dirt-diving. Yea, it prolly is aroudn 10K....but up here in CO you fall a tad faster...specially when it's hot. 90% of skydiving is mental, always remember to think.

Nifty, by that reasoning a 60 sec. freefall will put you in the dirt. You might want to check you math against a FF chart. In 60 sec. you fall around 10,000 feet.

metal reserve handles Vs Pillows, Opinions?

I have always preferred metal “D” handles on both sides. I use the 2 handed method of cutaway. I hook a thumb in each handle and go from there. 1. Have never seen a “D” handle tuck under a MLW 2. They are easy to see, never the same color as jumpsuit 3. Can be pulled with either hand. DISCLAIMER: This is just my preference and not recommended for home use. This is what is says now. SCS (8190 + Recipients) The Star Crest Soloist must freefly the exit (no grips) and must participate in a freefall formation involving eight (8) or more skydivers. The SCS candidate must dock eighth (8th) or later. After docking, the formation must be held together for a minimum of 5 seconds. Candidates may not participate as a member of this dive, un-grip the formation and retake grips to earn this award. But you are right, back in the day you had to break grips on a “Star” formation 8th. or later. And in both case, SCR & SCS in had to be completed. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
