My copy of TS – 135 is dated 01/12/05 and I am pretty sure it out of date. TSO-C23d went into effect on 6/1/94 specifying the use of ASj8015-B be used as minimum performance standards. I know you know all this I am just running it over in my mind to be sure I have it right. Is the finalized version of TS-135 available yet? Thanks Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

Terry, The sections I posted are from AS8015-B the testing standard for TSO-23d. And I think TSO-23d is still in effect. Are you talking about PIA TS-135? Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

Depending on how you read it they may already be included in the TSO. Sparky 4.3.2.2 Main Canopy Release, Human Factors Tests: The main canopy release, if used, shall be ground tested in a suspended harness1 by a representative group of no less than 6 male and 6 female subjects; (12 tests total). They shall be able to operate the release device without any undue difficulty. 4.3.2.5 Main Canopy Release, Actuation Force Tests: While in a suspended harness (with additional ballast as required to equal twice the maximum operating weight), a force at the main canopy release handle, or equivalent (if used), of not less than 5 lbf (22.2 N) (applied in the direction requiring the least force), nor more than 22 lbf (97.9 N) (applied in the direction requiring the greatest force under normal design operations), shall result in a positive and quick release of the main canopy on all tests. A minimum of 12 pull tests is required. "In a suspended harness" shall mean suspended by the risers of the main canopy. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

These observations on my part are based on 30 years experience in the sport and having worked and having worked at various positions in the industry. You have a right to be proud of your accomplishment in such a short period of time. You no doubt have put in some long hard hours to get to where you are now. But I think you will have to admit there are very few people that are ready or willing to be as dedicated to their dream as you have been. Sadly long range plans for many younger jumpers is how to get to the DZ next weekend with enough money to jump. Again, what you have done is commendable but I think a rare exception. You say you make NZ$80K a year that comes to about $59,230 US. How many jumps do you make to earn the amount? As near as I can figure TI in the Us get around $35 for a tandem and a little more for packing, teaching and such. So let’s give them an average of $50 per jump. For a TI to make $59,000 + he would have to make close to 1,200 jumps each year. If you are paid NZ$75 per jump you are making about 1,100 jumps a year. That many jumps slinging meat is a lot of work. It is not a career it is a job. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

Feeling Hypoxic? Inhale this drug......
mjosparky replied to LouDiamond's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Actually there are 4 types of hypoxia. The one skydivers would be confronted with is #1 Hypoxic hypoxia. And that is caused by reduced pressure. 1. Hypoxic hypoxia results from an inadequate oxygenation of the arterial blood and is caused by reduced oxygen partial pressure. 2. Anemic hypoxia results from the reduced oxygen- carrying capacity of the blood, which may be due to blood loss, any of the anemias, carbon monoxide poisoning, or by drugs causing methemogiobinemia. 3. Stagnant hypoxia is caused by a circulatory malfunction which results, for example, from the venous pooling encountered during acceleration maneuvers. 4. Histofoxic hypoxia results from an inability of the cells to utilize the oxygen provided when the normal oxidation processes have been poisoned such as by cyanide. There is no oxygen lack in the tissues, but rather an inability to use available oxygen, with the result that the PO2 in the tissues may be higher than normal. Therefore, it is not true hypoxia by the definition used here. Source: US Navy Flight Surgeons Manual Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals -
Outside of management of some of the larger equipment companies there are no “careers” in skydiving only jobs. To make enough to pay the bills and eat is really tough in this industry. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

Feeling Hypoxic? Inhale this drug......
mjosparky replied to LouDiamond's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Hypoxia is caused by a reduction in ambient pressure. I can’t see where inhaling a drug is going to increase that pressure allowing exchange of O2/CO2. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals -

I have a rubber stamp with my certificate and seal numbers. It makes pencil packing fairly obvious to whoever is checking gear, as long as they bother to look at more than just the last line. It can't prevent pencil packing, and may not even be caught, but the risk is there, so someone who is heading off to a boogie or visiting another DZ and who needs a repack before they go is a lot less likely to pencil pack if they think they may get caught and not be allowed to jump their rig. I started using the rubber stamp after someone brought me a rig for a repack, admitted to pencil packing in my name, then complained about how another local rigger uses a rubber stamp, so he can't pencil pack if he gets repacks from that guy. I had a rubber stamp made up in time to use for that repack. Thanks for the idea, buddy! I have been using a stamp for a few years now. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

There are many people that carry both legally and illegally. Many have carried for years and even close friends are not aware of it. A gun should only be pulled and pointed to prevent a death, yours or that of someone else. The decision to fire should have been made before the gun is in your hand. To use a gun as punctuation in an argument is a good way to end up dead. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

Some rigs back in the day had a fold of say ¼” Type IV on the last closing flap to the side of the pin. I think it started with the military. (see attachment) Some older military rigs also had a second data card pocket inside the container for a duplicate card. I don't know what "law" your sheriff follows, but where I'm from, a gun compliant is ALWAYS investigated. They don't give 2 shits about witnesses etc. You call the police and say someone has a gun, there will be 5 cruisers there in a matter of minutes and they will find out what really happened. That is why it is a little questionable in my mind, unless people pulling guns on people is "normal" where you live. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

Has anyone seen this video?

Maybe they should just “skydiving is dangerous and you can die doing it.” How many warnings and safety statements does it take before you would be satisfied? Read the fucking user’s manual page 43. If you had bothered to read your manual you would already know the answer. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
