  1. You can say that again I got my license in April in Mesquite, than i had spent 4 months in Iraq, than 8 jumps in august followed by 5 months in Iraq. Don't have to tell you that time doesn't fly at all for me In little over a month i'll be in Mesquite and Eloy though and I cant wait. BTW, I met the OP in Mesquite, cool guy Thank you for your service. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  2. Like so many things in FAR’s, the proper way to seal a reserve is somewhat vague and open to interpretation. This is what Part 65 says. 65.133 Seal. Each certificated parachute rigger must have a seal with an identifying mark prescribed by the Administrator, and a seal press. After packing a parachute he shall seal the pack with his seal in accordance with the manufacturer's recommendation for that type of parachute. This is what a few of the manufactures say out it. Sunpath:Seal the reserve container and log the work done on the packing data card and in your rigger's logbook. Mirage: Refer to Poynters Manual for additional information on sealing reserve! Wings: 16. Seal the reserve container and log the work done on the packing data card and in your rigger’s logbook. And then Pointer’s Manual. http://www.flickr.com/photos/53825637@N06/5257353970/ Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

  4. Where was the rig when the ripcord was pulled, laying on the table or on someone’s back? What kind of rig, what kind of shape was the pilot chute in? Did you carefully look over the rest of the pack job? Have you talked with the rigger who packed it? Too many unanswered questions. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  5. Yea you are, 400 jumps and 1 year in the sport. Already jumping a velocity 87 loaded at 2.6. That works out to about 226 lb about 40 + lb over the manufactures Max operating weight. And you might what to check, they don’t make an 87 sq. ft. Velocity but you were real close. Since 1995 out of 833 fatalities 276 died landing a good canopy. That’s about 33%, think you are going to be the one to beat the odds? Someone should start a pool. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

  15. Tell me more! Obviously I missed the cutoff date. But what ratings are you talking about? Rigger or pilot certificates? I haven't used either my Commercial ticket or my rigger license for 20 years. I certainly need recertification! And some flight time! Any one have a URL on this so I don't have to search for it? Jeesh, I've been way out of the loop. All Airmen Licenses and Certificates. In March of 2007 I had to get replacements for my riggers and pilots licenses. The new ones have a new cert. numbers and the date of issue was changed to 2007. Sparky http://www.flickr.com/photos/53825637@N06/5250965074/ My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  16. Quotedamn they require $25 min purchase.[/reply I'll send you a list of things can buy me to fill the order. If it is just for practice go to an office supply store and just look around for some fat bands there. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  17. I usually make my closing loops out of Type V. They last a long time and you don't have to use a washer with them. They knot large enough so they don't pull through the grommet. I take it you mean the braided nylon? Type V seems a little thick, ¼”, to go through a “0” grommet. Do you think Type IV, 3/16”, might be easier and still work without a washer? 18. Try to find the video, that has been posted here a number of times, showing Raquel Welch packing a round parachute. When you find it, try not to concentrate on her butt and you just might see a sleeve. JerryBaumchen Thanks Jerry. Found the vid. Could you fold one of those canopies into a regular d-bag with a standard pilot chute? Just seems easier. Sure you can. You can pack a round in a bad, pod, sleeve or even use a diaper. You can even pack into the container without using any of the above. You can do the same with a ram air canopy. The choice has a lot to do with the application the system is intended for. 19. They could keep track of everyone to within inches if you are willing to pay the cost. Their only means of tracking an AC now is to use the information provided to them by the public. The only reason they started registration of planes and cars was to collect the fee. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  20. You are not talking about marketing strategy for a mainstream item. This is an AAD for skydivers and this shows it doing just what it was designed to do. But it also shows how some skydivers have come to depend on it. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  21. What is a "random forest"? Is that something like a rain forest? Any forest is either under the control of the Federal Government, BLM and Park Service, or it is private land. In any case be prepared, don’t do the crime if you can’t do the time. Sparky Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

  23. Quit packing with Type III tape. It has a hard rough edge and the ends are cut with a hot knife. This type of hard edge with wear out the loop fast. Make a pull up cord from Type IIA coreless nylon or gutted 550 line. You could also make your loops out of gutted 550.
