  1. You can collapse forum groups, for example, the internation forum, by clicking the "-" sign to the right of the group name. I've not found a way to hide individual forums. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.
  2. "Personal responsibility" is a term that we skydivers love to toss around, sometimes you'd think it was skydivers who made up the term. Today I got to thinking, what exactly does personal responsibility mean to me? What does it mean to others? Personal responsibility means a few things to me; first and foremost it means that I must make, when given multiple choices, the responsible choice. That choice is usually the one that is least likely to damage me or those around me. By 'damage', I mean physically, emotionally, financially, etc . . . Of course there's the other side of "personal responsibility", that says that I have to accept the consequences of my actions, no matter what they are. What about you? - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.
  3. Which policies? Why? Where is spending up? Went to war with a coalition of nations, it wasn't simply the US. False pretenses, by the way, implies deciet. I don't believe that there was any. "End of major combat operations" announced by GWB. It was immediately followed with something along of the lines of 'while this is the end of combat operations, we have a long road ahead of us, this road will not be easy, blah blah blah . . ." I can dig up the speech if you like. Shall I? Unemployment up? Immediately following the dot.bomb era and 9/11? How ever could that have happened? How? Why shouldn't it go up? How long should employers foot the bill for my health care? Unless you believe in socialized medicine (and I know many do), health care costs need to go up. Of course, if we didn't live in such a sue-happy society and accept paying doctors a king's ransom health care costs might go down. Yes, it's always the cronies fault. Look, GWB isn't perfect, everybody knows that, but can't you find something better to harp on? Maybe you could talk about his three purple hearts, or his ultra-liberal record in the Senate, or . . . WAIT! Sorry, that's your guy. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.
  4. I suspect that immediately following the elections we'll be inundated with threads about how the election was rigged, how the country will go downhill quickly, who played dirty pool, etc . . . After that's all died down we'll get back to that which really matters: guns. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.
  5. 10 days 3 hours 36 minutes Does anyone at all think they'll get their extension? If they don't, what's around the corner? Think there's an even more heinous law brewing? - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.
  6. Has Kerry -ever- touted his record in the Senate as credentials to be President? - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.
  7. Bill, what reason does Zell to have to flip-flop? What potential gain is there? The man is going to retire in January. You really think so? - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.
  8. Last night Zell Miller gave a powerful speech and lambasted the current Democratic party. Where is the media coverage? I have a feeling that had a Republican given a similar speech at the DNC that it would have been on the front page of every newspaper and magazine in the free world and would have been the lead story on every news station. Where is the media now? - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.

  10. There's always been talk of a rebuttal of sorts to MM's Fahrenheit 9/11, here it is. This ought to be fun. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.

  12. Zell did an interview on Fox a few nights ago. At one point in the conversation he was asked why he didn't change parties and become a Republican (this happened after his admission that he was essentially disgusted by the Democratic party). Zell's response (paraphrased) "I was born a Democrat and I'll die a Democrat!". This was followed by a small rant about his feeling that the Democratic party has lost its focus in the last 35 to 40 years. No matter your feelings about his politics, this guy is interesting. I didn't know he had a book, but now that I do, I think I'll be buying it. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.
  13. Not in NYC. Just heard on Fox that there are 8 Democrats for every 1 Republican in NYC. In a city with 8 million people I'm sure there are plenty willing to protest. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.

  15. I saw it, I now think less of Mr. Baldwin than I did before. Here's a man who had the conviction to stand before the nation and admit his faith in God, but didn't have the balls to come right out and say "I am voting for George Bush". - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. 17. This is exactly what I was thinking the first time I heard about Nancy Reagan advocating stem cell research. I am curious to know if she was for or against it before Ronald Reagan was diagnosed with Alzheimer's. It is interesting how some people's views on an issue can change drastically when that issue suddenly has a direct effect on them... Makes it appear that they are incapable of looking beyond their own needs. (Not saying this is necessarily the case with the Reagans; I honestly don't know what their position on stem cell research was in the past.) Was stem cell research even known to the general public when RR was diagnosed with Alzheimer's? Seems to me that he was diagnosed quite a while ago (public announcement on 11/05/1994), and the stem cell research is still fairly new. Am I wrong? Does anyone have any documentation of Nancy Reagan speaking out against stem cell research? - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.
  18. Clint, How is that possible? Our income tax system is stupid for sure, but at no point is the marginal rate greater than 100%. We're gettin' there, but this isn't Sweden yet. My understanding of the tax system says that it isn't possible. TS - you turned down good money. Sucks to be you. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.

  20. Bill, would you say that the torture of a few Iraqis was done by the majority of American soldiers? Would you say that it was condoned by the majority of American soldiers? You can always find a few bad apples, but I don't think it's fair to paint every American soldier as a civilian killing monster simply because of a few bad apples. Do you? - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.

  22. Bullshit. The terrorists targeted the World Trade Center, at 9AM. The terrorists knew the buildings would be full of innocent civilians. The terrorists knew that they would get the most 'shock' value by targeting those buildings at the specific time that they struck. Had the terrorists been interested in targeting simply the American economic structure, they could have gone for the Wall Street Stock Exchange (only a few blocks away), and they could have done it at night. They didn't. They weren't destroying buildings, they were destroying people. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.
  23. While living in Manhattan I suggested to a friend that we run down to the local 'spy' shop and each get one of these wannabe-tazers. We guessed that neither of us would make it from the store to the subway without zapping the other and finally decided against it. I still think it could be a fun toy, handy in bars with long lines. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.
  24. Photos taken by professional photographers. These photographers generally sell their work, they don't give it away. 1800Skyride stole the photos, the photographers were not compensated. Is that simple enough for you to understand? Parachutist either pays for photos or gets permission from the copyright owner. 1800Skyride, to my knowledge, has done neither. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. 25. We could pull out completely, that would spare innocent lives, right? I have an idea that you won't be happy until the US (not necessarily the coalition, but the US) is completely out of Iraq. Why was making announcements the WEEK prior to attack unacceptable, but making announcements and the firing a few rounds into the air OK? - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends.
