1. Wow. Who is it that's obsessed with guns? - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.
2. If that's the case then why did you make this statement? Protect the President sure, but from REAL threats, not perceived ones. It's unfortunate, but the SS can't effectively check every single person's intentions before allowing them off the ground. TK, you seem to 'know' an awful lot, why don't you share with us some of your solutions to the problem at hand. Elected by the people . . . - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. 3. Of course not. If you'll go back and read my post again you'll see that I didn't say that. What I did say is that since you admit that the SS is better qualified than you to determine what the REAL threats are to the President that I find it odd that you feel compelled to criticize them, to criticize something that by your own admission you don't understand. TK, I asked you a question in an earlier post - what are the REAL threats to the President? - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.
4. If you're so sure that the SS won't be asking you for your advice on how to best protect the President then why is it that you feel qualified to comment on it? - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.
5. Bad idea. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.
6.
If Presidential security rose to a cost of $100B per year, would you be OK with that? If it rose to the equivalent cost of the War in Iraq, would you be OK with that? Do you feel there is a limit, or no limit to what should be spent? Do you think the majority of Americans would be OK with that?
I suspect that I'd have to evaluate the threat against the amount of money being spent. Nobody had ever used a commercial airliner as missle before 9/11/2001. It seems now that that particular threat has gone from Tom Clancy to reality. It's something we need to be concerned with today. Any radius? Of course not. Simply a radius that allows the Presidential detail to detect and respond to a threat in time to prevent it. No, but if you want to put it in that context we do have laws preventing people from carrying guns while near the President, right? Weren't you spouting off earlier that the FAA should have done more to prevent 9/11? What's that about perceived vs. real? Just so I'm clear on this, which threats are REAL and which are perceived? - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.
7. Wouldn't that also cause problems with all of the punctuation in the forum posts? They're also stored in the db, correct? - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.
8. Silly by whose standards? Did you know that every single President since Gerald Ford (and including Gerald Ford) has been the subject of an assanation attempt? It was/is the Secret Service that decides how to best protect the President, and while several Presidents have lamented about the hassle caused by the increased security none have thought it was unnecessary. You think things are bad now, just wait until we make it easy to murder our President and have a change of government every time somebody gets away with it. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. 10. Because in our ultra politically correct society we can't have those who don't want to hear about guns hearing about guns. No matter what the spirit of the thread. It's sad, really. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.
11. I've got to agree. When I was growing up we had an alarm system installed in our house and I recall that on more than one occasion that the alarm company told us that if there were an emergency that we were better off calling 911 ourselves as it would be quicker. The alarm company needs to (a) recognize the alert, (b) verify the alert (usually by calling you to see if everything OK) and (c) call 911 and explain that they received an alert, but provide very little information about it. You're better off doing it yourself. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.
12. Good idea. If he's still upset after that then it's time to kick him to the curb. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.
13. Michael Jackson? I could be wrong, but I think it was Robert Downy, Jr. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.
14. By telling the general population how a thief broke into (or breaks into) a home, the general population can more easily assess how easy it would be for a thief to break into --their-- home. More importantly, because now they know at least the obvious deficiencies, they can take measures to correct them. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.
15. I remember the first time I did a jump from 22K - I spent the lower half of the skydive telling myself that everything is OK. The internal clock is something we all have, but damn, it can be an annoyance at times! - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.
16. But, since it is in the Speaker's Corner, tell him that the Federation is a Communist organization and that you broke it on purpose. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.
17. Agreed - this is now stolen gear and deserves another thread with a more catching title. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.
18. They're not kids anymore. By the time we're in college we're likely at least 18 and hopefully able to think for ourselves. Anyone else you'd like to add to that list? - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.
19. Everest Home Edition is my new favorite. Ivan, I think you were thinking of Cpu-Z. Finally, there's Si Software's Sandra Lite All will do what you're looking for, though my favorite of the bunch is Everest. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.
20. So what's the problem with law abiding citizens ("not criminals") owning a gun? - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.

23. Besides the criminals, the people you really don't want to have guns? No. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.
24. No, it was an argument to show that you don't need guns to commit heinous crimes. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.
25. And there's where you're failing to understsand the larger issue. Laws don't prevent anything, they simply provide a means to punsih the law breakers. Laws prevent normally law abiding people from asking around? I'll bet you a dollar that if I decided I wanted an illegal gun that I could have one in a matter of days. I'll bet you could, too. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.
