Hey shoulder-dislocating sufferers, what riggerrob said...ask your local phsical therapist how to strengthen that shoulder and minimize the potential for future dislocations. What some of you have written is true, however, and if your shoulder needs surgery, then get it! I know that it'd suck big time if -my- shoulder did that. I have enough problems with no depth perseption due to having vision out of only one eye. If -any- of you are ever in the Perris area, look me up and I'll discuss it with you and show you some good exercises to do for your ailing joint. Jack Gramley, DZO manager, and one heck of a great guy, had right shoulder surgery as well, and could enlighten you from a patient's perspective. As all of you know, most shoulders dislocate in an anterior (forward) way. To put it in englsh, when you reach back for your BOC...that is the exact position that pops your shoulder out! Nasty! Anyway, the invitation's open. Welcome to Perris and the $14.50 skydives all summer long!

Yeah, that's what happens. However, (and this comes from personal experience) if you leave it on, then drive home from the DZ with it on, it will wear out the battery -much- faster than if you turn it off before leaving. Seems that if the Cypres senses a 50 foot elevation change, it switches from 'stand-by' to 'full activation' and the battery is drained at a higher rate. Personal expereince gained from when my Cypres battery went 'dead' (noticed by the number cycling down to '8998') within the first year and way before the 500 jumps. My drive home is 45 minutes and an elevation change from the DZ of 1,500 feet. Just FYI, ltdiver ____________________________________________ LightDiverCam

Wide angle lens question (not, which one...)
ltdiver replied to SniperCJ's topic in Photography and Video
Then it also depends on what brand of wide angle lens you get as well. Don't know why, but the Sony .6 is about the same field of view as the Kenko .5. Go figure... ltdiver ____________________________________________ LightDiverCam -
Jump a Spectre-135 at 1.35:1 today. Jumped a Diablo-120 for over a year (400+ jumps) loaded at 1.5:1 and loved the openings, canopy flying, and landings. Just didn't like the time it spun me up and had to chop. (right around the time Jan 'Devil' Davis spun up and caught her camera helmet). Shook us all, so went with something a little more docile after that. ltdiver ____________________________________________ LightDiverCam

per year? Add the wind tunnel training to the skydives...video fee...coaching...packing....team room rental..., and I think you'd have a sweet deal for serious team training skydivers!

Isn't there a lens treatment that can be used in humid places like this? (thinking about how humid it'll be at Nationals this year) ltdiver ____________________________________________ LightDiverCam

Ditto! My lines looked great, but the openings were getting, as you say, funky as well. My canopy's openings were surging forward (like it wanted to begin flying) then braking back (hard) and almost stalling. This in the matter of a few seconds during opening. And, oh yeah, the openings were getting quicker and quicker. They -used- to be about 1,000'. They were getting closer to 500 by last weekend. How would you describe your Spectre's 'funky' openings at 700 jumps? btw, it's Vinny who informed me of several Spectre's he's had to reline at an 'early' jump number d/t uneven line shrinkage. ltdiver ps Thanks for the leeway for learning the new flare when it comes back. Should be ALOT better! Right? ____________________________________________ LightDiverCam

Heard a rumor that the Cobalt canopy, while being fully elliptical, has the bite taken out of it by the trim set keeping the canopy in a shallower glide angle. And that if any front riser input is given, then the more elliptical characterists come out to play. True? ltdiver ____________________________________________ LightDiverCam

Very interesting, Rhino. Yes, I -do- use my risers and toggles alot during decent. Since I fly camera alot, I pull high, at break-off, then (after canopy, slider, and other canopies on the area are cared for) I spiral down to not make my teammates wait to walk in from the landing area. (Especially needed since we are on short calls alot of times). However, one of my riggers (who has had many years in the business) said that he was finding Spectre canopies needing relining in much fewer jumps than others. Stiletto's at about 600-1,000 jumps (for example) but Spectre's at around 450-500 jumps. Since slower opening canopy's lines usually last longer, he doesn't have an explanation for this phenomenon. He just knows what he's had in his loft. Perhaps you're on to something, rhino. ltdiver ____________________________________________ LightDiverCam

drenaline. You hit a nerve there. That's one of my very good friend's favorite poems that he shared with me last year. Very deep and moving to read it again. Thanks. ltdiver ____________________________________________ LightDiverCam

Yeah...sending my canopy off to PD on Monday morning. Canopy check is free...new lines run about $180. What to do while it's gone, though. Donna said they'd get it in and out asap. They don't have any demo loners right now (PD's on tour). Anyone at Perris or Elsinore have a loner for next weekend? I'd even take a larger canopy. Still very interested in others experiences of how many jumps their canopies had before needing re-linings. Want to compare notes. Thanks for the input, drenaline. Learning more every day.

How many jumps until a canopy needs relining? Asking here 'cause my Spectre-135, with only 430 jumps on it, was evaluated by 2 different riggers and was found to need new Spectra-825 lines. Brake lines has shrunk a total of 9 inches (for example). What has been others experiences with their canopies? Especially the Spectre? This just seems like too few jumps. Yes, I bought it new just one year ago. ltdiver ____________________________________________ LightDiverCam
