i already tested the prototype last month... but i was "under" canopy. (at least part of the ride in/on the dust devil.) Three of those on the 'Derrick-Ways' also got to test this new Elsinore wind tunnel on Saturday! No dust kicked up, just the swirley-bird silently hovering over the landing area. Thankful nobody was hurt! ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon

Viking, Get the booties. Several reasons. Some already stated here (better, faster tracking. better, faster, more controlled turns). Other reasons. If you get into any RW discipline you'll want them for these reasons plus fallrate recovery. -Getting back up after going low is easier with booties (you fall a tad slower with them on). -Tracking up hill towards a formation is aided by booties. -Control in a track is aided by booties. -Safety in being able to track farther away from a formation is aided by booties. Farther away=less chance of deploying near someone else. Actually, the only problem I've encountered with booties is that you can't sit-fly with them on! I've tried! I merely end up on my back instead of in a sit. So, for those dives (if I choose to where my RW suit) I just tuck the booties up inside the suit and sit away! No problem! Hope this helps, ltdiver

Don, We might be in the minority here in the U.S.A., but as an AFFI I actually believe we're too easy in our license requirements. I'd like to see the standards for a 'Master' (or 'D') license raised higher. Not lower. If you're a 'Master' at anything, the standards should be high. Like the number requirements for a 'D' license with the FAI. See: http://www.shu.ac.uk/students/union/sd/progi.html Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon

FAI sanctioned event in Lahti, Finland (first World Games we were invited to) in 1997. They used an Mi8 helicopter for all events. 4-way, Style and Accuracy, and Freestyle. If this pic file isn't too big, I have a great photo of the bird in flight from that event I'll try to copy here. ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon

I should have clarified the 'about 500 jumps' as this number for Spetra lines. And...if you're having (or had, before April) problems with opening characteristics already, to have your rigger take a look. Vectran lines are usually replaced sooner....Dacron later. Sorry you've had so much down time! Perhaps skybytch will send some happiness your way after her jumps on her new canopy today. ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon

Welcome to the world of HMO's! Very similar to socialized medicine...where we all pay into the same pot and then the 'most' deserving get the treatments needed. ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon

--Squirly openings...off heading....faster than normal openings with the canopy wanting to 'stall' instead of fly with the brakes still stowed. --Little flare available for landing (brake lines shrunk). Yes....-about- 500 jumps is the norm. Just had my Spectre-135 relined by PD this month. The flying is incredible...like it is brand spanken new again! (now...how to do this with the human body....) ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon

Making stow bites too big, a close one...
ltdiver replied to GrumpySmurf's topic in Safety and Training
ok....found a 'cure' for my new pc 'fast-snatch' problem. I needed to 'age' my new pc and slow it down. Stopping short of punching holes in it, or setting it out in the sun for an hour. Instead I put it in a mesh bag (one that is used for washing delicate clothing) and put it through a couple of wash/rinse cycles in my washing machine. (very little gentle liquid soap). Worked like a charm, and my canopy openings were wonderful this weekend! (note, however...this was -not- recommended by my rigger, once he found out what I'd done, but it worked for me! A 'total mal' was a concern, if this weakened the fabric too much...but it didn't. So...problem solved and my neck is very happy now). Congrats, skybytch! I'll be looking for you tomorrow at the DZ!

Didn't bother my 4-way team in the least. In fact, you guys gave us quite a visual under canopy! The CReW formation was just breaking their diamonds and forming smaller stacks as they crossed the railroad museum! What a sight, Shark! Caught it on video, too (as it was cptnstratn's 500th jump that dive as well!) Thanks! Added to a fantastic day at the DZ... ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon
