  2. Here's one for top-mount. Looks cleaner, mounts nicer in any box created for it, up there. There was a post not long ago that bemoaned the task of side-mounting a dbox 'cause it stuck up too far above the helmet (to get the hinges not to hit the helmet and cause it to tilt). Take a look for it. Rule of thumb: Top mount a TRV style camera. Side mount a PC style. (although you technically -can- do the reverse). ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon
  3. I have a male co-worker who put together an awesome album to play at work. It fast became one of our favorites! Sarah McLachlan was the featured artist along with: Ivy Alanis Morissette Fiona Apple Tori Amos Pj Harvey Bjork He titled the album, "Women Rock!" :^) I know what you mean about sipping wine along with listening to artists such as these.. :^) ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon

    Back problems?

Nice beginner set of exercises for sciatica. They actually -are- the correct ones for each listed diagnostic causes. Stacy...make sure you get a correct diagnosis before starting any kind of physical exercises for your problem. Doing the wrong ones -can- increase the problem...sometimes irreversibly. A herniated disc can be advanced, or a sacroiliac joint rotation or slip increased. As soon as possible get the correct diagnosis and then get to a physical therapist who is well versed in back ailments. I can be an easy fix, with a greater understanding on your part on -how- to fix it youself if it comes back. Physical Therapists....we LOVE to teach. :^) ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon

    Weathermen

I worked at a place for 6 months where the flag outside would predict the upcoming weather with 100% accuracy. When the wind blew it from the east, the weather was great and clear. When the wind was from the west, shit weather would be here within 12 hours. -That- weather predictor is the -only- thing I miss from that job. ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon
  7. 300D and the Digital Rebel are one and the same. I'm happy to have bought the DR when it came out. It was the best bang for the buck. However, if I was buying new today I'd opt for the 20D in a heartbeat. Yes, the buffer size can help out for exits and high speed landing shots (say if you ever have a chance to witness a truely talented swooper). ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon
  8. Well now, this thread just helps confirm one of our patients we met this week. He seriously claims that he has alien blood in his body...one of his ancestors was an alien. So, his treatment needs to be more intense than regular humans would need. ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon
  9. Which is exactly why you shouldn't use a factory diver as a camera helmet. 1) Not secure enough to not move around when the air hits it. Cameraflyers understand just how snugged down a helmet has to be for the camera not to shake. 2) Not a cutaway system installed. I know the older models don't have cutaway capability. But why, with the ability to have one on your camera helmet would you -not- want to upgrade your safety. Those of us in the business of flying camera, who have lost comrades, understand. 3) The top of the regular RW helmet isn't flat which makes for a more insecure mount with a flat camera/box surface. Sure the nice duct tape makes it look cool and all, but does it provide stability in freefall? btw, 983, would you mind filling out your profile so we know who we're talking to? :^) ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon
  10. A 3 day event, Sparky?!! Looks like Perris missed out on this one this year. Or is April 1st a hint at the gag? ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon
  11. Yes. Let's start somewhere. An interesting read here... http://danger-ahead.railfan.net/reports/rep2001/selby20010228_rs.html "Pushing a rake of coaches is little different from pulling them. The speed and control over the train is the same and they are quite safe PROVIDING the train stays on the track. As an example of this, take a toy wooden train with no track on a table top. Hold the locomotive and pull the train along. The locomotive will go where it is pulled and the coaches will duly follow. Now put the locomotive at the rear and push the train with the locomotive. Without the guiding influence of the track the coaches go anywhere almost immediately. The inherent weakness in the "push-pull" arrangement is therefore ready for exploitation should the front of the train be lifted from the track." ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon
  12. Let's see how high the $$ amount of their lawsuits add up to. When a bridge collapses in an earthquake you just don't build another bridge just like the one that fell. You build a better one. You can't stop earthquakes....just like you can't stop the desperate or the stupid that drive on the tracks. ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon
  13. Those who kill -should- be sentenced and locked up. Tell that to those who lost family members today. btw, the count is up from 10 to 11 lost and they still haven't been able to reach everyone still trapped in the wreckage. Why let the 'minor' (in your opinion) offenses by ignored? Why not make things safer. You -know- that the lawsuits will demand it, so why not be pro-active? It would build consumer confidence instead of casting shadows of doubt. It would build usership, not loose it. ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon
  14. The direct your energies at locking up drunk drivers for 10 years at a time...... What makes you think that I'm not a member of MADD? I wish they -would- lock up DD's for a LONG time. Especially if they've killed. ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon
  15. This metrorail line has been in operation since 1992 and until today, to my knowledge, no commuter on the train has died from a car vs metrorail train collision until today. Minimize this by going back to a lead engine in the front of the cars for each route. Whether by bringing the engine to the front by a system like you've described, or by putting one at either end to allow for that added protection. I don't feel -near- the sympathy for those who tried to beat the train by running through the guard arms or don't acknowledge the red lights. I -do- however cringe when people completely -not- at fault are killed. ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon
  16. Then how would -you- promote that they do this? What is the cost of a human life? ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon
  17. Of course it takes time and real estate. Never said it didn't. You mentioned 2 ways of getting the engine back to the front of the train. Both are doable. Ever hear about 'eminent domain'? Or perhaps someone will come up with a less costly, more desirable solution. These metrolink trains run with only 1 locomotive. Perhaps two, one at each end, would be a possible solution. ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon
  18. FYI. All of these accidents of metrorail vs car on the tracks resulted in 2 of them -only- the driver dieing, the 3rd the driver lived. No derailment. No fatalities on the train. All of these incidents occured with the metrorail train in the 'pull' position. http://www.nbc4.tv/news/2665158/detail.html http://www.nbc4.tv/news/2488206/detail.html http://www.nbc4.tv/news/2386933/detail.html Now compare these to the one today with the train in the 'push' position. ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon
  19. I don't agree. The metro-rail line locks the front car in the 'push' method and won't open the car until the rest of the cars are full. Then, they still discourage passengers from riding up there. If they choose to, they rope off the first 8 rows of seats to prevent people from riding in the -very- front of the train. Why do they go to such lengths if there isn't increased risk? It is too cost prohibitive to put up bridges for the train to ride upon, thus saving the posibility of cars driving onto the tracks. Too many crossings (120 in just San Diego alone) to put up fences. What would -you- do to prevent this kind of tragedy in the future? ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon
  20. Want to explain to us how you're gonna throw a U turn with a train? I happen to know a little bit about this. Got to be a fly on the wall in some meetings when this type of train was introduced in California, and I've worked with volunteer railroads. The problems doesn't lie with the equipment, but rather access to the tracks, and railroad right of ways. They used to use the 'U-turn' method before the method of the push-pull. They knew that the 'new' method increased the risk. IMO, the value of human life is FAR greater than saving a few minutes of time. Or don't you agree? ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon
  21. The animation on the news is chilling. This timeline give a slideshow of the events. http://www.nbc4.tv/slideshow/news/4133515/detail.html?qs=1;s=1;dm=ss;p=news;w=320 On review, it doesn't save enough time and money in using the 'push-pull' method if when using the 'push' method puts people's lives in danger. You know, when the commuter train is using the 'push' method they discourage people from being in the 'lead' car because of just this kind of increased danger. An engine weighs 175 tons. A passenger car only weighs 70 tons. When in the 'push' mode the engine is pushing the lighter cars and will keep on pushing even if the 'front' car hits something. And the people who may be in the 'front' car are right there at the scene of the impact. It doesn't take too much time to turn the train around and have the 'pull' method used throughout the entire send and return route. It's cheaper than 10 dead and 200 seriously injured! ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon
  22. Cal City, huh? I spoke with Paco and he wasn't sure when or where it would be this year. He hadn't decided yet. btw, I think Perris gals give better bribes than anywhere to you judges! ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon
  23. I'm sure they're still trying to figure things out. The pictures show a commuter train and freight train...however it might be something different like you say. I have to shove off to work now, but I'll be back on-line to check the whole story later. ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon
